Effects of Superconductivity and Charge Order on the sub-Terahertz reflectivity of LaBaSrCuO
The reflectivity of both the plane and the c axis of two
single crystals of LaBaSrCuO has been measured
down to 5 cm, using coherent synchrotron radiation below 30 cm.
For = 0.085, a Josephson Plasma Resonance is detected at = 31 K
in , and a far-infrared peak (FIP) appears in the optical
conductivity below 50 K, where non-static charge ordering (CO) is reported by
X-ray scattering. For = 0.05 ( = 10 K), a FIP is observed in the
low-temperature tetragonal phase below the ordering temperature . At
1/8 doping the peak frequency scales linearly with , confirming that
the FIP is an infrared signature of CO, either static or fluctuating.Comment: v2: longer version, 9 pages, 6 color figure
Automatic-test-ACF: a new evaluation tool based on automatic correction filters
This paper presents the results obtained with regard to the evaluation process in Web-Based Learning Systems. It shows the design of Automatic- Test-ACF in detail, an evaluation management system with Automatic Correction Filters that can be included as a complementary module in a Learning Management System. The purpose of this approach is to develop a tool to help teachers in student follow-up and evaluation, aiming at reducing course drop out and adjusting the number of students / number of tutors ratio. Surface oscillations in channeled snow flows
An experimental device has been built to measure velocity profiles and
friction laws in channeled snow flows. The measurements show that the velocity
depends linearly on the vertical position in the flow and that the friction
coefficient is a first-order polynomial in velocity (u) and thickness (h) of
the flow. In all flows, oscillations on the surface of the flow were observed
throughout the channel and measured at the location of the probes. The
experimental results are confronted with a shallow water approach. Using a
Saint-Venant modeling, we show that the flow is effectively uniform in the
streamwise direction at the measurement location. We show that the surface
oscillations produced by the Archimedes's screw at the top of the channel
persist throughout the whole length of the channel and are the source of the
measured oscillations. This last result provides good validation of the
description of such channeled snow flows by a Saint-Venant modeling
Development and Optimisation of an HPLC-DAD-ESI-QToF Method for the Determination of Phenolic Acids and Derivatives
A method for the HPLC-MS/MS analysis of phenols, including phenolic acids and naphtoquinones, using an amide embedded phase column was developed and compared to the literature methods based on classical C18 stationary phase columns. RP-Amide is a recently developed polar embedded stationary phase, whose wetting properties mean that up to 100% water can be used as an eluent. The increased retention and selectivity for polar compounds and the possibility of working in 100% water conditions make this column particularly interesting for the HPLC analysis of phenolic acids and derivatives. In this study, the chromatographic separation was optimised on an HPLC-DAD, and was used to separate 13 standard phenolic acids and derivatives. The method was validated on an HPLC-ESI-Q-ToF. The acquisition was performed in negative polarity and MS/MS target mode. Ionisation conditions and acquisition parameters for the Q-ToF detector were investigated by working on collision energies and fragmentor potentials. The performance of the method was fully evaluated on standards. Moreover, several raw materials containing phenols were analysed: walnut, gall, wine, malbec grape, French oak, red henna and propolis. Our method allowed us to characterize the phenolic composition in a wide range of matrices and to highlight possible matrix effects
Linear Growth Study of the Pharyngeal Cavity
A cephalometric study was made to determine average linear dimensions and growth differentials of the pharyngeal cavity in boys and girls 6 to 15 years of age. The length of the cavity and its nasal openings had a faster rate of growth in boys than in girls, especially during puberty. Imatinib-mesylate for all patients with hypereosinophilic syndrome?
Some recent papers have focused on the activity of imatinib-mesylate, a selective inhibitor of tyrosine kinase, in idiopathic hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES) [1], [2], [3] and [4]. In this setting, a possible therapeutic target was identified by Cools et al. [2], who described the fusion tyrosine-kinase gene FIP1L1/PDGFRA as the result of an interstitial deletion within chromosome 4 in nine out of sixteen (56%) patients affected by HES. Of interest, although in this study the response to imatinib was strictly correlated with the presence of FIP1L1/PDGFRA rearrangement (all patients with such a molecular lesion treated with imatinib responded), only five out of nine responding patients evidenced the abnormal transcript [2]. Among the possible alternative mechanisms for the activation of the PDGFRA tyrosine-kinase domain, these authors suggested there may be a different fusion gene
