Onset of Phase Synchronization in Neurons Conneted via Chemical Synapses

We study the onset of synchronous states in realistic chaotic neurons coupled by mutually inhibitory chemical synapses. For the realistic parameters, namely the synaptic strength and the intrinsic current, this synapse introduces non-coherences in the neuronal dynamics, yet allowing for chaotic phase synchronization in a large range of parameters. As we increase the synaptic strength, the neurons undergo to a periodic state, and no chaotic complete synchronization is found.Comment: to appear in Int. J. Bif. Chao

Características seminais de caprinos sadios e infectados pelo lentivírus de pequenos ruminantes em Sobral-CE.

Resumo: A artrite encefalite caprina é uma doença que está disseminada no território brasileiro, causando prejuízo à produção e também ocasionando perda genética, ocasionado pelo sacrifício de animais de alto valor genético. Neste contexto, este trabalho tem como objetivo verificar se os parâmeros espermáticos são alterados pela infecção. Utilizou-se 12 reprodutores das raças Anglo-nubiana e Saanen sendo 06 soropositivos e 06 soronegativos para a CAE. As coletas de sêmen ocorreram entre março e julho de 2013, perfazendo 10 coletas por animal. As variáveis estudadas foram volume, concentração, motilidade e vigor. Observou-se diferença estatística (P 0,05) entre os grupos, mas encontravam-se dentro dos padrões de normalidade descrito para a raça. Portanto, sugere-se que os animais soropositivos possam ser usados em programas de reprodução assistida, desde que haja um controle sanitário eficiente e que utilize-se técnicas que possam eliminar o vírus do germoplasma

Gap opening in the zeroth Landau level in gapped graphene: Pseudo-Zeeman splitting in an angular magnetic field

We present a theoretical study of gap opening in the zeroth Landau level in gapped graphene as a result of pseudo-Zeeman interaction. The applied magnetic field couples with the valley pseudospin degree of freedom of the charge carriers leading to the pseudo-Zeeman interaction. To investigate its role in transport at the Charge Neutrality Point (CNP), we study the integer quantum Hall effect (QHE) in gapped graphene in an angular magnetic field in the presence of pseudo-Zeeman interaction. Analytical expressions are derived for the Hall conductivity using Kubo-Greenwood formula. We also determine the longitudinal conductivity for elastic impurity scattering in the first Born approximation. We show that pseudo-Zeeman splitting leads to a minimum in the collisional conductivity at high magnetic fields and a zero plateau in the Hall conductivity. Evidence for activated transport at CNP is found from the temperature dependence of the collisional conductivity.Comment: 20 pages, 4 figures, Accepted in J. Phys. Condensed matte

Esse projeto teve como objetivos: verificar a condição micorrízica em plantas forrageiras nas condições do semi-árido, avaliar a eficiência de fungos micorrízicos arbusculares em promover o crescimento vegetal e o teor nutricional de plantas de Cajanus cajan var. Petrolina, passível de utilização na alimentação animal, e conhecer o potencial dessas forragens em incrementar a propagação desses fungos no solo

Length-weight relationships of four freshwater ornamental fish species from the Brazilian Negro River basin.

The present work reports the length?weight relationships (LWR) for four ornamental fish species from the middle Negro River basin, Amazonas, Brazil. The r2 value ranged from 0.810 to 0.941 and values of b varied from 2.346 to 3.442. These results represent the first reference on LWR for all four species, based on FishBase

Mulsemedia: State of the art, perspectives, and challenges

Mulsemedia-multiple sensorial media-captures a wide variety of research efforts and applications. This article presents a historic perspective on mulsemedia work and reviews current developments in the area. These take place across the traditional multimedia spectrum-from virtual reality applications to computer games-as well as efforts in the arts, gastronomy, and therapy, to mention a few. We also describe standardization efforts, via the MPEG-V standard, and identify future developments and exciting challenges the community needs to overcome
