    Planning of FiWi Networks to Support Communications Infrastructure of SG and SC

    Nowadays, growth in demand for bandwidth, due to new and future applications being implemented, for services provided from smart grids (SG), smart cities (SC) and internet of things (IoT), it has drawn attention of scientific community, on issues related to planning, and optimization of communication infrastructure resources, in addition is necessary comply with requirements such as scalability, coverage, security, flexibility, availability, delay and security. Another important point is how to find and analyze possible solutions that seek to minimize the costs involved by capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operational expenditure (OPEX), but where it is possible to measure the uncertainty coming from stochastic projections, in order to obtain the maximum benefit expected to give access to users Who benefits from the services provided by SG, SC and IoT, on the other hand, we must look for communications architectures that generate optimum topologies to meet demanded requirements and at the same time save energy, possible alternatives highlight the use of hybrid networks of optical fiber links combined with wireless links (Fiber-Wireless, FiWi).     Apparent competition drives community-wide parasitism rates and changes in host abundance across ecosystem boundaries

    Species have strong indirect effects on others, and predicting these effects is a central challenge in ecology. Prey species sharing an enemy (predator or parasitoid) can be linked by apparent competition, but it is unknown whether this process is strong enough to be a community-wide structuring mechanism that could be used to predict future states of diverse food webs. Whether species abundances are spatially coupled by enemy movement across different habitats is also untested. Here, using a field experiment, we show that predicted apparent competitive effects between species, mediated via shared parasitoids, can significantly explain future parasitism rates and herbivore abundances. These predictions are successful even across edges between natural and managed forests, following experimental reduction of herbivore densities by aerial spraying over 20ha. This result shows that trophic indirect effects propagate across networks and habitats in important, predictable ways, with implications for landscape planning, invasion biology and biological control

    A Public Health Educational Campaign For Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID) Intervention

    Purpose: The rate of infant mortality serves as a crucial indicator of the overall health of society (CDC, 2022). The five leading causes of infant mortality are birth defects, preterm birth, sudden infant death syndrome, injuries, and maternal pregnancy complications. The prevalence of infant mortality varies across states, with eastern states and minority-ethnicity infants having higher prevalence. This thesis proposes utilizing the Safe to Sleep framework to introduce Giving Breath, a public health education campaign that introduced breastfeeding as an intervention to Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID). Methods: Analyze current and new policies\u27 impact on women\u27s rights to breastfeed their infants. Compare institution databases (California Department of Public Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) that reflect the prevalence of SUID among various ethnicities in the United States. Develop the proposed framework with relevant literature on breastfeeding and SUID within PubMed and the National Library of Medicine. Results: The prevalence of SUID has decreased through the implementation of initiatives (Safe to Sleep) and policies (The California Lactation Accommodation Law of 2002, The Breastfeeding Education & Support of 2007, and Providing Urgent Maternal Protection (PUMP) for Nursing Mothers Act of 2022). Further enforcement of policies through Giving Breath is needed to decrease the prevalence of SUID, particularly for unknown causes. Conclusion: Public health education campaigns have successfully encouraged behavior change at individual, interpersonal, community, organizational, and structural levels. Giving Breath can encourage mothers to breastfeed their infant without fearing shame and sexualization, recognizing it as the most natural act they can do

    Gravitational radiation from pulsar glitches

    The nonaxisymmetric Ekman flow excited inside a neutron star following a rotational glitch is calculated analytically including stratification and compressibility. For the largest glitches, the gravitational wave strain produced by the hydrodynamic mass quadrupole moment approaches the sensitivity range of advanced long-baseline interferometers. It is shown that the viscosity, compressibility, and orientation of the star can be inferred in principle from the width and amplitude ratios of the Fourier peaks (at the spin frequency and its first harmonic) observed in the gravitational wave spectrum in the plus and cross polarizations. These transport coefficients constrain the equation of state of bulk nuclear matter, because they depend sensitively on the degree of superfluidity.Comment: 28 page
