Adrenergic and cholinergic innervation of the chicken pancreas

    Get PDF
The distribution, as well as the morphological characteristics of adrenergic and cholinergic nerve fibres was studied in the pancreas of the hen and the cock. The presence of numerous adrenergic and moderately numerous cholinergic structures was revealed in the organ. They were seen as nerve fibre bundles or single nerve fibres located in the vicinity of blood vessels and exocrine ducts, as well as the cells of the exocrine and endocrine pancreas. Single TH- and ChAT-positive nerve cell bodies were also found in the organ under study

Application of low frequency electrical impedance for detection of submerged objects

Przedstawiono wyniki wstępnych prac doświadczalnych mających na celu wykrycie i różnicowanie obiektów zanurzonych w środowisku wodnym. Do detekcji wykorzystano pomiar impedancji elektrycznej w zakresie niskich częstotliwości. Results of preliminary experiments with the detection and recognition of objects submerged in water are presented. Measurements of the electrical impedance in low frequency range were used. Results of experiments confirmed that living organism like fish can be reliably recognized from other objects (stones, bubbles, etc.). The presented method was not applied for the detection of submerged objects up till now and seems to be interesting alternative, and can give reliable results when other methods (hydroacoustic, optical) are unable to give usable information

Zastosowanie ogólnie dostępnego sprzętu do lokalizacji obiektów dennych

W artykule przedstawiono praktyczne aspekty prowadzenia poszukiwań i identyfikacji obiektów dennych za pomocą ogólnie dostępnego sprzętu. Omówiono metody hydroakustyczne (echosonda, sonar), magnetyczne (magnetometr) oraz wizualne (kamera, nurek).Selected practical aspects of bottom objects search are presented considering application of homebrew or cheap, widespread equipment. Applications of ultrasound (depth sounder, simple sonar), magnetic (magnetometer) and visual (camera, diver) methods are discussed

The „Bionic Sonar” project, phase one: Initial research on Marine Mammal Acoustics

    No full text
Results of theoretical and experimental investigation on marine mammal acoustics are presented and briefly concluded. The described research is a part of interdisciplinary scientific project titled „Bionic Sonar”. The goal of the project is to develop a new kind of hydroacoustic sources with specified frequency characteristics and directivity patterns, inspired by the vocal and echolocation systems of the marine mammals. The presented theoretical investigation focuses on underwater communication and navigation capabilities of dolphins and grey seals. The experimental research concerning underwater vocalizations of the grey seals was performed in the Hel Marine Station of the Institute of Oceanography of the University of Gdańsk. Underwater sounds were recorded using hydrophones placed in the pools in which only the grey seals were present. The recorded vocalizations have been extracted from the recordings and analyzed for a number of distinguishing characteristics. The obtained results are compared to the results of other related investigations described in literature

Mixed hydroblast and missile injury with abdominal eventeration: case report

    No full text
Gunshot injuries are quite common nowadays. Increasing numbers of high-pressure injection injuries are also being observed with a good correlation with industrial progress. High-pressure devices produce pressures and velocities of fluid streams similar to those generated in firearms. However, no missile plays a part in high-pressure injection injuries. We present the unusual case of mixed missile and hydroblast injury, which has not yet been reported. Physical characteristics, typical patterns of injury and the possibility of infectious complications are shown. The importance of educating workers about safety precautions is emphasised

1ST X-RAY IMAGES WITH A DOUBLE-SIDED MICROSTRIPS SILICON CRYSTAL - A NOVEL DETECTOR FOR DIGITAL RADIOGRAPHY

In the framework of an experimental program to study the possibility of using a silicon crystal for X-ray detection in the diagnostic energy range (10-100 keV), the authors present the first experimental results obtained with a silicon detector (300 mu m thick, 1.4*1.4 cm2 surface) with microstrips deposited on each side: 25 mu m spacing on the junction side and 50 mu m spacing on the ohmic side: 25 mu m spacing on the junction side and 50 mu m spacing on the ohmic side; the read-out pitch is 100 mu m for both sides. Energy and spatial resolutions have been measured by means of collimated radioactive sources: 241Am (E gamma =60 keV) and 109Cd (E gamma =24 and 88 keV). A very good linearity in the response to the photon energy has been measured. Tantalum wires, i.e. high contrast objects, have been used as phantoms when exposing the detector to the 60 keV photons; the authors present the images thus obtained
