    A System for Detection and Recognition of Pests in Stored-grain based on Video Analysis

    Abstract. This paper presents a system for detection and recognition of pests in stored-grain based on video analysis. Unlike current systems which conduct analysis of static images, the proposed system uses video data captured by camera and performs video analysis to detect and recognize pests in grain. By using video data instead of static images, techniques such as motion estimation and multiple-frame verification are used to locate, count and recognize pests. Compared to systems based on image processing, the proposed system is more robust to moving pests and avoids missing and re-counting of moving pests. Furthermore, by analyzing motion of pests in video, the system can only count living pests and ignore dead ones, which are recommended by national standard of grain quality and cannot be achieved by current systems based on static image processing

    Effects of Surface Coating Preparation and Sliding Modes on Titanium Oxide Coated Titanium Alloy for Aerospace Applications

    This paper investigates the mechanical response of a coated Ti-6Al-4V alloy surface under different sliding contact stress conditions. The surface was coated with an oxide ceramic material created through the use of a recently developed technique known as plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO). During the PEO procedure, a composition of silicate and phosphate was used as the electrolyte. In order to evaluate the coating, pin-on-disk (POD) tribology tests and cyclic inclined sliding tests were used under dry room conditions. Furthermore, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) were utilized to examine the morphology and composition of the coating surfaces. The results of the POD tests revealed that the PEO coating could have a low coefficient of friction and suggested that high silicon concentrations in the PEO coatings take away oxygen from stoichiometric Ti oxides to create lubricating oxides. In addition, cyclic inclined sliding tests showed that smaller pores on the surface of the coating could permit a higher coating cohesive strength and allow the coated Ti alloy surface to perform better under high inclined sliding forces

Entire individual plant is poisonous, and the toxic substances are hyoscyamine and scopolamine and atropine, etc. It is a rare case that patients were poisoned by Mandala in clinical practice. More reports were about the cases that patients were poisoned by seeds, fruit, leaf and flower. The toxicity would stimulate and restrain the central nervous system successively, block the reactions of acetylcholine, resist and paralyze the parasympathetic nerve.     Quantum-information transfer in a coupled resonator waveguide

    We propose an efficient scheme for the implementation of quantum information transfer in a onedimensional coupled resonator waveguide. We show that, based on the effective long-range dipole-dipole interactions between the atoms mediated by the cavity modes, Raman transitions between the atoms trapped in different nodes can take place. Quantum information could be transferred directly between the opposite ends of the coupled waveguide without involving the intermediate nodes via either Raman transitions or the stimulated Raman adiabatic passages. Since this scheme, in principle, is a one-step protocol, it may provide useful applications in quantum communications.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

    IPS Observation System for Miyun 50m Radio Telescope and Its Acceptance Observation

    Ground-based observation of Interplanetary Scintillation(IPS) is an important approach of monitoring solar wind. A ground-based IPS observation system is newly implemented on 50m radio telescope, Miyun station, National Astronomical Observatories, Chinese Academy of Sciences(NAOC). This observation system is constructed for purpose of observing the solar wind speed and scintillation index by using the normalized cross-spectrum of simultaneous dual-frequency IPS measurement. The system consists of a universal dual-frequency front-end and a dual-channel multi-function back-end specially designed for IPS. After careful calibration and testing, IPS observations on source 3C273B and 3C279 are successfully carried out. The preliminary observation results show that this newly developed observation system is capable of doing IPS observation.The system sensitivity for IPS observation can reach over 0.3Jy in terms of IPS polarization correlator with 4MHz bandwidth and 2s integration time.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figure

    Quantitative evaluation of protein–DNA interactions using an optimized knowledge-based potential

    Computational evaluation of protein–DNA interaction is important for the identification of DNA-binding sites and genome annotation. It could validate the predicted binding motifs by sequence-based approaches through the calculation of the binding affinity between a protein and DNA. Such an evaluation should take into account structural information to deal with the complicated effects from DNA structural deformation, distance-dependent multi-body interactions and solvation contributions. In this paper, we present a knowledge-based potential built on interactions between protein residues and DNA tri-nucleotides. The potential, which explicitly considers the distance-dependent two-body, three-body and four-body interactions between protein residues and DNA nucleotides, has been optimized in terms of a Z-score. We have applied this knowledge-based potential to evaluate the binding affinities of zinc-finger protein–DNA complexes. The predicted binding affinities are in good agreement with the experimental data (with a correlation coefficient of 0.950). On a larger test set containing 48 protein–DNA complexes with known experimental binding free energies, our potential has achieved a high correlation coefficient of 0.800, when compared with the experimental data. We have also used this potential to identify binding motifs in DNA sequences of transcription factors (TF). The TFs in 79.4% of the known TF–DNA complexes have accurately found their native binding sequences from a large pool of DNA sequences. When tested in a genome-scale search for TF-binding motifs of the cyclic AMP regulatory protein (CRP) of Escherichia coli, this potential ranks all known binding motifs of CRP in the top 15% of all candidate sequences

    Effect of acetone extract of Rumex japonicas Houtt on hydrogen peroxide-induced apoptosis in rat myocardial cells

    Purpose: To investigate the protective effect of the acetone extract of Rumex japonicas Houtt. (AER) on rat myocardial cells.Methods: R. japonicas was extracted with 75 % aqueous ethanol by reflux to afford total extract (TER). TER was suspended in water and then extracted with acetone to afford acetone fraction of R. japonicas (AER). High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) combined with standard substances was carried out to analyze the major constituents of AER. Apoptosis in myocardial H9c2 cell line was induced by H2O2 (100 μmol/L). The cells were treated with AER (50, 100 and 200 μg/mL, and cell viability was evaluated by the 3-(4,5-dimethyl-2-thiazolyl)-2,5-diphenyl-2-H-tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay, while oxidative stress level in H9c2 cells was evaluated by determining levels of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), malondialdehyde (MDA), creatinine kinase (CK), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and catalase (CAT). Furthermore, apoptotic proteins (caspase-3, Bax and Bcl-2) in H9c2 cells were analyzed by using western blot assay.Results: Results revealed that the main components of AER are aloe-emodin, rhein, emodin, chrysophanol and physcion. AER (50, 100 and 200 μg/mL) inhibited the cell viability reduction of the H9c2 cells induced by H2O2 (p < 0.05, p < 0.01, p < 0.01, respectively). AER (50, 100 and 200 μg/mL) decreased LDH and CK contents of H9c2 cells (p < 0.01). The levels of SOD (p<0.01) and CAT (p < 0.01) were increased by AER treatments (100 and 200 μg/mL); in addition, AER (50, 100 and 200 μg/mL) decreased MDA levels (p < 0.01). Besides, the present results also revealed that AER could down-regulate caspase-3 and Bax, but up-regulated Bcl-2.Conclusion: AER alleviates apoptosis induced by H2O2 in myocardial H9c2 cells via inhibition of oxidative stress and mitochondria-mediated apoptosis.
