Taxonomic Review of the Genus Rosa

    Get PDF
Species of the genus Rosa have always been known for their beauty, healing properties and nutritional value. Since only a small number of properties had been studied, attempts to classify and systematize roses until the 16th century did not give any results. Botanists of the 17th and 18th century paved the way for natural classifications. At the beginning of the 19th century, de Candolle and Lindley considered a larger number of morphological characters. Since the number of described species became larger, division into sections and subsections was introduced in the genus Rosa. Small differences between species and the number of transitional forms lead to taxonomic confusion and created many different classifications. This problem was not solved in the 20th century either. In addition to the absence of clear differences between species, the complexity of the genus is influenced by extensive hybridization and incomplete sorting by origin, as well as polyploidy. Different analytical methods used along with traditional, morphological methods help us clarify the phylogenetic relations within the genus and give a clearer picture of the botanical classification of the genus Rosa. Molecular markers are used the most, especially AFLPs and SSRs. Nevertheless, phylogenetic relationships within the genus Rosa have not been fully clarified. The diversity of the genus Rosa has not been specifically analyzed in Croatia until now

Codling Moth, Cydia pomonella (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) ā€“ Major Pest in Apple Production: an Overview of its Biology, Resistance, Genetic Structure and Control Strategies

    Get PDF
The codling moth Cydia pomonella (CM) (Linnaeus) is a key pest in pome fruit production with a preference for apple. The pest is very adaptable to different climatic conditions and is known for developing resistance to several chemical groups of insecticides. Because of these reasons, the populations of codling moth are differentiated in many ecotypes of various biological and physiological development requirements. The article provides a bibliographic review of investigation about: morphology, biology, dispersal, damages, resistance to insecticides, population genetic structure and genetic control of this pest

    Voltage Regulation by Quadrature boosters

Describes the regulation in certain elements of the network with a special focus on the phase shifting transformers (PST). Voltage regulation can be made to various elements in the network: - on-generator excitation changes: - on transformer (change the number of turns); - on water (change the water parameters); - on consumer (change of reactive power). The describes the relationship between voltage and reactive power. Use the program to simulate power flow angle change in voltage transformer observed what was going on with the network, and came to the conclusion that the step angle regulating the transformer should be as small as possible

Presentation skills of business and economics students: Cluster analysis

    Get PDF
Presentation skills are one of the most important tools that are required on numerous occasions in education and business. In most of the business and economics colleagues, presentation skills are taught as part of the curriculum, of at least several courses. Therefore, it could be expected that presentation skills would be highly developed among business and economics students. However, in practice, people develop numerous fears and barriers to the presentation in public. On the other hand, students do not behave in the same manner taking into account their fear towards the presentation in public. The goal of the paper is to investigate if there are homogenous groups of students according to their attitude towards the presentation, both as sources of success and as a source of fear. Cluster analysis has been employed to fulfil the paper goal. Non-hierarchical k-means analysis has been conducted on data collected by the research instrument about the benefits and fears from the presentations on the sample of students enrolled in business and economics colleagues. Results indicate that there are homogenous groups of students according to presentation perceived benefits and fears, but the composition of these groups indicates that perceived benefits and fears of presentations are not always related in the same direction

The scientific productivity of Croatian economics and business educational institutions: Relation of size and productivity

This study assesses the scientific productivity of Croatian economics and business educational institutions focusing on the relation of productivity to their size. A bibliometric analysis was applied to 13 educational institutions whose publications were listed in the Croatian Scientific Bibliography (CROSBI) in the period from 1991 to November 2012. More than 4400 scientific conference papers with international peer-review, 3500 scientific papers in journals, 1500 book chapters, 462 authored books, 191 edited books and 130 textbooks and coursepacks were found. The bibliometric analysis of publication data showed an increasing trend in scientific paper publishing in each consecutive period observed within this research. An increase in publications was evidenced by an increased number of book chapters, starting with 13 publications in the period from 1991 to 1996, over 275 publications in the period from 1996 to 2002, ending with 770 publications in the period from 2007 to November 2012. A similar trend is observed in other types of publications as well. Furthermore, the number of academic staff at economics and business educational institutions in Croatia was taken into account within the study in order to reach findings about the relation of an institutionā€™s size and its productivity

Human Resources Information Systems: Transactional and Strategic Paradigm

    Get PDF
Human resources information system (HRIS) is an inevitable element of contemporary organisationā€™s setup. The HRIS provides multiple human resources management (HRM) services from operational assistance in collecting, storing and preparing data, executing and controlling processes, reducing HRM labour costs, and providing information to the management enabling them to make quality HR strategic decisions. This paper is aimed in contributing to the better utilization of HRIS usage in organizations, analysing various approaches in terms of purposefulness and validity of implementation of HRIS with the goal to maximize its impact to organizational performance. The goal of the paper is to provide the overview of HRIS transactional and strategic paradigm, and evaluate its impact to organizational performance.
