A SUMMARY OF INCIDENTS INVOLVING USAEC SHIPMENTS OF RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL, 1962

Limited susceptibility of three different mouse (Mus musculus) lines to Porcine circovirus-2 infection and associated lesions
Porcine circovirus associated disease (PCVAD), a major global problem for pork producers, is characterized microscopically by depletion and histiocytic replacement of follicles in the lymphoid tissues. The objectives of this study were to determine 1) if Porcine circovirus-2 (PCV-2) inoculated mice (Mus musculus) can develop PCV-2 associated lymphoid lesions and serve as a model for PCVAD, and 2) if differences in PCV-2 host susceptibility exist among mice lines. Three groups (n = 48/group) of 4-wk-old male mice were used: BALB/c, C57BL/6, and C3H/HeJ. A 2 × 2 factorial analysis was designed for each group using PCV-2 inoculation and keyhole limpet hemocyanin in incomplete Freund’s adjuvant injections on day 0 and 7 as factors. Necropsies were performed on days 12, 17, 22, 27, 32, and 37. Serum samples collected at each necropsy tested negative for anti-IgG PCV-2 antibodies in all mice at all time points by 2 different PCV-2 enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA). The PCV-2 DNA was detected by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in 93% (100/108) of tissues and 42.6% (46/108) of serum samples from PCV-2-inoculated mice from days 12 to 37. Microscopic lesions consistent with PCV-2 infection were not observed in any mice and PCV-2 DNA and PCV-2 antigen were not detected in tissues by in-situ-hybridization or immunohistochemistry assays, respectively. Based on incidence of PCV-2 DNA in serum samples, the C57BL/6 mouse line was more resistant to PCV-2 infection than the other lines. The results indicate the mouse model likely has limited utility to advance understanding of the pathogenesis of PCV-2 associated lesions, but mice could potentially be important in the epidemiology of PCV-2
Radon--Nikodym representations of Cuntz--Krieger algebras and Lyapunov spectra for KMS states
We study relations between --KMS states on Cuntz--Krieger algebras
and the dual of the Perron--Frobenius operator .
Generalising the well--studied purely hyperbolic situation, we obtain under
mild conditions that for an expansive dynamical system there is a one--one
correspondence between --KMS states and eigenmeasures of
for the eigenvalue 1. We then consider
representations of Cuntz--Krieger algebras which are induced by Markov fibred
systems, and show that if the associated incidence matrix is irreducible then
these are --isomorphic to the given Cuntz--Krieger algebra. Finally, we
apply these general results to study multifractal decompositions of limit sets
of essentially free Kleinian groups which may have parabolic elements. We
show that for the Cuntz--Krieger algebra arising from there exists an
analytic family of KMS states induced by the Lyapunov spectrum of the analogue
of the Bowen--Series map associated with . Furthermore, we obtain a formula
for the Hausdorff dimensions of the restrictions of these KMS states to the set
of continuous functions on the limit set of . If has no parabolic
elements, then this formula can be interpreted as the singularity spectrum of

Dynamical mean-field approach to materials with strong electronic correlations
We review recent results on the properties of materials with correlated
electrons obtained within the LDA+DMFT approach, a combination of a
conventional band structure approach based on the local density approximation
(LDA) and the dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT). The application to four
outstanding problems in this field is discussed: (i) we compute the full
valence band structure of the charge-transfer insulator NiO by explicitly
including the p-d hybridization, (ii) we explain the origin for the
simultaneously occuring metal-insulator transition and collapse of the magnetic
moment in MnO and Fe2O3, (iii) we describe a novel GGA+DMFT scheme in terms of
plane-wave pseudopotentials which allows us to compute the orbital order and
cooperative Jahn-Teller distortion in KCuF3 and LaMnO3, and (iv) we provide a
general explanation for the appearance of kinks in the effective dispersion of
correlated electrons in systems with a pronounced three-peak spectral function
without having to resort to the coupling of electrons to bosonic excitations.
These results provide a considerable progress in the fully microscopic

Metal-Insulator Transitions and Ordering of Microscopic Degrees of Freedom
Lifetime Differences, direct CP Violation and Partial Widths in D0 Meson Decays to K+K- and pi+pi-
We describe several measurements using the decays D0->K+K- and pi+pi-. We
find the ratio of partial widths, Gamma(D0->K+K-)/Gamma(D0->pi+pi-), to be
2.96+/-0.16+/-0.15, where the first error is statistical and the second is
systematic. We observe no evidence for direct CP violation, obtaining A_CP(KK)
= (0.0+/-2.2+/-0.8)% and A_CP(pipi = (1.9+/-3.2+/-0.8)%. In the limit of no CP
violation we measure the mixing parameter y_CP = -0.012+/-0.025+/-0.014 by
measuring the lifetime difference between D0->K+ K- or pi+pi- and the CP
neutral state, D0->K-pi+. We see no evidence for mixing.Comment: 14 pages postscript, also available through

Anti-Search for the Glueball Candidate f_J(2220) in Two-Photon Interactions
Using 13.3 fb^{-1} of e^+e^- data recorded with the CLEO II and CLEO II.V
detector configurations at CESR, we have searched for f_J(2220) decays to
K^0_{S} K^0_{S} in untagged two-photon interactions. We report an upper limit
on the product of the two-photon partial width and the branching fraction,
Gamma_gamma gamma cdot B (f_J(2220) to K^0_{S} K^0_{S}) of less than 1.1 eV at
the 95% C.L: systematic uncertainties are included. This dataset is four times

Further Experimental Studies of Two-Body Radiative \Upsilon Decays
Continuing our studies of radiative Upsilon(1S) decays, we report on a search
for Upsilon to gamma eta and Upsilon to gamma f_{J}(2220) in 61.3 pb^{-1} of
e^{+}e^{-} data taken with the CLEO II detector at the Cornell Electron Storage
Ring. For the gamma eta search the three decays of the eta meson to
pi^{+}pi^{-}pi^{0}, pi^{0}pi^{0}pi^{0}, and gamma gamma were investigated. We
found no candidate events in the two (3\pi)^{0} modes and no significant excess
over expected backgrounds in the gamma gamma mode to set a limit on the
branching fraction of B(Upsilon to gamma eta) < 2.1 x 10^{-5} at 90% C.L. The
three charged two-body final states h h-bar (h = pi^{+}, K^{+}, p) were
investigated for f_{J}(2220) production, with one, one, and two events found,
respectively. Limits at 90% C.L. of B(\Upsilon to gamma f_{J}) x B(f_{J} to h
h-bar) ~ 1.5 x 10^{-5} have been set for each of these modes. We compare our
results to measurements of other radiative Upsilon decays, to measurements of
radiative J/psi decays, and to theoretical predictions.Comment: 19 pages postscript, also available through

Measurement of the Mass Splittings between the States
We present new measurements of photon energies and branching fractions for
the radiative transitions: Upsilon(2S)->gamma+chi_b(J=0,1,2). The masses of the
chi_b states are determined from the measured radiative photon energies. The
ratio of mass splittings between the chi_b substates,
r==(M[J=2]-M[J=1])/(M[J=1]-M[J=0]) with M the chi_b mass, provides information
on the nature of the bbbar confining potential. We find
r(1P)=0.54+/-0.02+/-0.02. This value is in conflict with the previous world
average, but more consistent with the theoretical expectation that r(1P)<r(2P);
i.e., that this mass splittings ratio is smaller for the chi_b(1P) triplet than
