    Compensatory growth response of sailfin molly, Poecilia latipinna (Lesueur, 1821) to starvation and refeeding

    Compensatory growth response and body composition of male sailfin molly, Poecilia latipinna subjected to short-term starvation and subsequent feeding were studied for 54 days. Four feeding schedules were used in this study: C, Control (were fed to apparent satiation throughout the experiment); T1, Treatment 1 (3 days Starvation and 6 days refeeding); T2, Treatment 2 (6 days Starvation and 12 days refeeding); T3, Treatment 3 (9 days Starvation and 18 days refeeding). At the end of the experiment, the starved fish gained a body weight comparable to that of the control fish. There were no differences in condition factor, specific growth rate and weight gain between the starved and control fish at the end of the experiment. Daily feed intake was significantly higher in T3 than that in the control. Short-term starvation did not influence protein, lipid and ash contents. Moisture content of T2 and T3 fish were significantly higher than those of T1 and control fish. The results indicated that complete compensation occurred in the starved fish and that this species can tolerate to short term starvation without any significant effects on growth and feeding performance

    Estimation of Multicomponent Stress-strength Reliability under Inverse Topp-Leone Distribution

    In this article, the reliability inference for a multicomponent stress-strength (MSS) model, when both stress and strength random variables follow inverse Topp-Leone distributions, was studied. The maximum likelihood and uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimates for the reliability of MSS model were obtained explicitly. The exact Bayes estimate of MSS reliability was derived the under squared error loss function. Also, the Bayes estimate was obtained using the Monte Carlo Markov Chain method for comparison with the aforementioned exact estimate. The asymptotic confidence interval was determined under the expected Fisher information matrix. Furthermore, the highest probability density credible interval was established through using Gibbs sampling method. Monte Carlo simulations were implemented to compare the different proposed methods. Finally, a real life example was presented in support of the suggested procedures. &nbsp

    Effects of dietary oxidized fish oil on thyroid hormones in Sturgeon hybrid

    Fish oil in the diet of fish is constantly at the risk of oxidation. In this study, the effects of feeding sturgeon hybrid (Huso huso ♂ ×Acipenser ruthenus ♀) with different levels of oxidized fish oil (OFO) on thyroid hormones were investigated. Three experimental diets were made by replacing 0 (control), 50 and 100% OFO were made. Ninety hybrid sturgeon, with the initial weights of 212.6 ± 07g were distributed in 9 fiberglass tanks (2 m3) randomly after 2 weeks of adaptation with experimental conditions. Feeding was performed three times daily (08:00, 14:00 and 20:00) for 6 weeks for satisfaction. At the end of the period, blood samples were taken and their serum was separated. Serum thyroxine and triiodotyronine were measured by radioimmunoassay in blood samples. Serum thyroxine, triiodotyronine and thyroxine/triiodotyronine level showed no significant change related to dietary OFO. Our findings showed that dietary-oxidized oil had no effect on blood thyroid hormones levels
