Veselago lens by photonic hyper-crystals
An imaging system functioning as a Veselago lens has been proposed based on
the novel concept of photonic "hyper-crystal" -- an artificial optical medium
synthesizing the properties of hyperbolic materials and photonic crystals. This
Veselago lens shows a nearly constant negative refractive index and
substantially reduced image aberrations. It can find potential applications in
photolithography and hot-spots detection of silicon-based integrated circuits.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, APL in pres
Focusing by Plano-Concave lens using Negative Refraction
We demonstrate focusing of a plane microwave by a plano-concave lens
fabricated from a photonic crystal (PhC) having negative refractive index and
left-handed electromagnetic properties. An inverse experiment, in which a plane
wave is produced from a source placed at the focal point of the lens is also
reported. A frequency dependent negative refractive index, is obtained for the
lens from the experimental data which matches well with that determined from
band structure calculations
Image of Veselago lens based upon two-dimensional photonic crystal with triangular lattice
The construction of the multi-focal Veselago lens predicted earlier is
proposed on the basis of a uniaxial photonic crystal consisting of cylindrical
air holes in silicon that make a triangular lattice in a plane perpendicular to
the axis of the crystal. The object and image are in air. The period of the
crystal should be to work at the wavelength .
The lens does not provide superlensing but the half-width of the image is
. The lens is shown to have wave guiding properties depending on
the substrate material.Comment: 15 pages, 10 figure
Negative Refraction and Left-handed electromagnetism in Microwave Photonic Crystals
We demonstrate negative refraction of microwaves in metallic photonic
crystals. The spectral response of the photonic crystal, which manifests both
positive and negative refraction, is in complete agreement with band-structure
calculations and numerical simulations. The negative refraction observed
corresponds to left-handed electromagnetism and arises due to the dispersion
characteristics of waves in a periodic medium. This mechanism for negative
refraction is different from that in metamaterials.Comment: 13 pages, 4 figure
Community Collectivization and Consistent Condom Use Among Female Sex Workers in Southern India: Evidence from Two Rounds of Behavioral Tracking Surveys
Community collectivization is an integral part of condom use and HIV risk reduction interventions among key population. This study assesses community collectivization among female sex workers (FSWs), and explores its relationship with sex workers’ consistent condom use (CCU) with different partners considering the interaction effect of time and collectivization. Data were drawn from two rounds of cross-sectional surveys collected during 2010 (N1 = 1986) and 2012 (N2 = 1973) among FSWs in Andhra Pradesh, India. Results of the multiple logistic regression analysis show that, CCU with regular and occasional clients increased over the inter-survey period among FSWs with a high collective efficacy (AOR 2.9 and 6.1) and collective agency (AOR 14.4 and 19.0) respectively. The association of high levels of collectivization with CCU and self-efficacy for condom use are central to improve the usefulness and sustainability of HIV prevention programs worldwide
