WEXTER and ERAFITTER: two programs to fit M_W at LEP2 using the best measurable kinematical variables
In this paper, we present two programs to fit M_W at LEP2 using the best
measurable kinematical variables. The theoretical probabilities of observing
the final-state kinematical configurations are computed by integrating over the
quantities that are not well measured. Therefore, an event-by-event kinematical
reconstruction is avoided. M_W is then determined through a maximum likelihood
fit.Comment: 19 pages, Latex fil
Zero-dimensional field theory
A study of zero-dimensional theories, based on exact results, is presented.
First, relying on a simple diagrammatic representation of the theory, equations
involving the generating function of all connected Green's functions are
constructed. Second, exact solutions of these equations are obtained for
several theories. Finally, renormalization is carried out. Based on the
anticipated knowledge of the exact solutionsthe full dependence on the
renormalized coupling constant is studied.Comment: 38 pages, LaTe
The holonomy of IIB supercovariant connection
We show that the holonomy of the supercovariant connection of IIB
supergravity is contained in SL(32, \bR). We also find that the holonomy
reduces to a subgroup of SL(32-N)\st (\oplus^N \bR^{32-N}) for IIB
supergravity backgrounds with Killing spinors. We give the necessary and
sufficient conditions for a IIB background to admit Killing spinors. A IIB
supersymmetric probe configuration can involve up to 31 linearly independent
planar branes and preserves one supersymmetry.Comment: 8 pages, latex. v2: Minor correction
On the determination of M_W and TGCs in W-pair production using the best measured kinematical variables
A study is made of the feasibility of maximum likelihood fits to determine
M_W and triple gauge boson couplings using only those experimental kinematical
variables that are well measured. A computational tool to calculate theoretical
probabilities for those kinematical variables is discussed and then applied to
samples of unweighted events produced by an event generator. Detailed results
on the M_W determination for semileptonic final states in W-pair production
show the feasibility of the method. For TGCs one result is presented as an
illustration.Comment: 7 pages, Latex, 1 figure, published in Phys. Lett. B, reference

HAMSTRINGS COACTIVATION IN TRAINED LONG JUMPERS AND UNTRAINED INDIVIDUALS DURING DROP JUMPING
The purpose of this study was to examine the EMG activity patterns of the hamstrings during drop jumping from different heights in trained longer jumpers and controls. A group of trained long jumpers and a group of untrained subjects performed maximal drop jumps from 20cm, 40cm and 60 cm on a force platform. The surface EMG activity of the hamstrings was recorded using bipolar electrodes. The ground reaction forces (GRF) and 3-D kinematic data were also recorded. Two-way analysis of variance tests indicated non-significant differences in hamstring EMG amplitude between trained and untrained athletes. However, the long jumpers had significantly higher vertical GRF values and some kinematic differences compared to untrained individuals. The absence of higher hamstrings activity in the long jumpers may have been a contributing factor in their higher performance compared to controls. However, the same result indicates that this increased performance may be accompanied by a possible increased risk of knee joint instability
