Introduction: It is known that patients with cleft jaw have a hypoplasic jaw mainly due to surgery during the first years of life. The lowering and the advance of the jaw after Le Fort I osteotomy corrects the occlusal layer and vertical dimension of the face and also repositions soft parts, nose included. The lack of development of the upper lip, requires surgical procedures, V-Y Plasty is the recommended procedure. Purpose: Our goal was to evaluate the value of the lowering and the advance of jaw surgery, associated or not with surgery of the mandible, and stability in time of occlusion and the new facial harmony. Materials and methods: The study was conducted on a group of 9 patients, including 6 girls and 3 boys, who were hospitalized in the last 3 years in Iasi OMF (Oro-Maxillo-Facial) Surgery, sequelae after complete unilateral or bilateral clefts, with ages between 16 and 32. Of these only 2 patients received surgery for the Mandible. The remaining 7 underwent only Le Fort I osteotomy. 5 patients underwent V-Y plasty to lengthen the upper lip. Results: Measurements made on lateral cephalometric to asses the advance(average 7 mm) and lowering the jaw (average 6 mm). Height of the upper lip increased by 3 mm. Measurements were performed one week preop and one week postop. Measurements made one year postop showed in average a relapse of 3 mm for the advance and 2 mm in rising of the jaw. Results of facial harmony and soft tissue remained constant

Pharmacoepidemiologic investigation in acute renal cholic in children

Acute renal colic is one of the most intense pains in pathology and represents a urologic and nephrologic emergency. This exploratory study was performed on 86 patients with a ages between 10 and more than 18 which completed a questionnaire consisting of some questions about intensity of acute renal colic measured with the visual analogue scale (range=0-10), associated symptoms and the drugs used to reduce pain. In summary this study shows that in most of the patients the pain semnificativelly affects the normal daily activities. Drug therapy plays an important role in pain management. Renal colic pain management consists especially in using spasmolytic drugs and their association with analgesics or anti-inflammatory drugs

Evaluation of medical decision errors during the transition period to telemedicine

    Get PDF
The context of the Coronavirus pandemic has fundamentally changed the way we approach medical services. Beyond setting up new technological possibilities, it has propelled telemedicine to become a reality, bringing undeniable practical benefits. The questions that arise are both justified and worrying: can digitalization replace a direct interpersonal relationship that involves a physical examination, while preserving the quality of the medical act and the degree of patient satisfaction? Isn\u27t there a risk that the digitization of the medical record will cancel out the deep human character of classical medicine that has evolved since the time of Hippocrates? Should the implementation of telemedicine be the state-of-art of modern medicine, in accordance with the co-evolution of digital technology? It is hard to believe that once used in this period, telemedicine will be abandoned. However, telemedicine must be analyzed not only in the short term but also in the long term, in order to be able to evaluate both its usefulness and possible deficiencies

Aspects of the practice of folk dance in Bihor Region - Tradition and perspectives

    Get PDF
Romanian folk dances are a wealth of generations that we owe to preserve, protect and leave our inheritance to our descendants as a proof of our identity and history. By practicing dance, the customs and traditions of the people are learned; young people develop harmoniously due to the various movements in which the dances are composed. Romania has a wide range of games, dances and costumes inherited from tradition, perpetuated through repertoire and ethnography, which convinced us to address and highlight the important role of the traditions, folk dances in Bihor County, the beneficial effect that they have in the personal development of the dancers. The proposed research methodology for the study addresses methods such as the survey method by applying a questionnaire and the statistical-mathematical method. The results highlight the importance of folk dances first present in the family and the fact that passion is the main motivation of dancers that drives them to practice folk dance. It is necessary to give children the opportunity to make direct contact with the sources of popular creation such as dance, music, customs and folk costume, to create optimal conditions for learning our folk dances, the priceless treasure of our people

Genetic implications in vitiligo and vitiligo-associated diseases

Vitiligo is a chronic, asymptomatic, disease that affects the patient from a cosmetic point of view. It is characterized by the appearance of depigmented areas on the skin or mucous membranes. Depending on the morphology of the lesions, vitiligo can be classified into: segmental, non-segmented or mixed. Vitiligo is associated with a range of autoimmune disorders, most commonly autoimmune thyroid diseases, alopecia areata, halo nevi, psoriasis, diabetes, etc. Etiology is not entirely elucidated, autoimmune theory related to specific genetic mutations being the most studied

Iași Art Residency is an artistic residency program that takes place in Iasi and involves the monthly invitation of an international visual artist, in order to materialize a specific art project related to the experience lived in the cultural space of Iasi. The program aims to connect the students of the Faculty of Visual Arts and Design within ā€œGeorge Enescuā€ National University of Arts in Iași with the invited artists, in order to exchange artistic experiences. This article will briefly present the activity of the American resident artist Emery Hall which took place here, in Iasi,in May and June 2022

Abstract. European mistletoe (Viscum album L., family Santalaceae) is native from Europe and is an evergreen, perennial, hemiparasitic shrub that lives on a wide range of woody plants species. In the first part of this study we present the area, length and width of the leaves of five varieties of Viscum album subsp. album that are growing on five different host trees (Acer campestre, Mallus domestica, Fraxinus excelsior, Populus nigra and Robinia pseudoacacia), in order to observe if there are vegetative morphology changes within the same specie (V. album) due to host plant. In the second part, chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b and the total amounts of carotenoids in mistletoe extracts, that was harvesting on February were determined. The buffered aqueous 80% acetone, DMF and methanol were used as solvents. The contribution of these solvents to the extraction of assimilatory pigments and the time of extraction (24, 48 and 72 hours) was examined comparatively. We find, also, the difference between the mistletoe that are growing on different host trees. The highest level of total chlorophyll (a + b), after 48 hours of extraction, were observed in the case of VaM extract, in all the solvents used (21.92 mg/g fresh leaves, in the case of methanol; 20.45 mg/g fresh leaves, in the case of acetone and 16.00 mg/g fresh leaves in the case of DMF). The low concentration of pigments were recorded in the case of VaP extract (15.23 mg/g fresh leaves in methanol extract). It was observed that methanol is the best solvent for chlorophyll, while acetone is a better solvent for the carotenoids

An Observational Study on Patients with Acute Limb Ischemia and SARS-CoV-2 Infection: Early and Late Results in Limb Salvage Rate

An observational study on 22 patients presenting with acute limb ischemia and SARS-CoV-2 infection, and without any other embolic risk factors, was performed. All patients were classified according to Rutherford classification for acute limb ischemia. The primary goal of this study was to assess the risk of amputation in these patients after revascularization procedures. The secondary goal was to find the correlation between acute limb ischemia (ALI) severity, patient comorbidities, risk of death, and the association of SARS-CoV-2 infection. The patients were treated by open surgery (18 patientsā€”81.81%) or by the means of endovascular techniques (four patientsā€”18.18%). The amputation-free survival rate was 81.81% in hospital and 86.36% at 1-month follow-up. In this study, the presence of SARS-CoV-2 infection did not influence the amputation-free survival rate: it was only the risk factor for the arterial thrombosis and the trigger for the acute ischemic event. The application of the standard treatmentā€”open surgery or endovascular revascularizationā€”in patients with acute limb ischemia and SARS-CoV-2 infection represents the key to success for lower limb salvage
