Frontino, agrimensura ed esegesi tardoantica del testo tecnico nel commento dello Pseudo-Agennio Urbico

Nel presente contributo si offre una trattazione generale del Commentum dello Pseudo- Agennio Urbico, l’unico commento tardoantico che ci sia pervenuto relativamente ad un testo gromatico latino di epoca classica. A tale scopo vengono considerati da una prospettiva storica i motivi della diffusione di una letteratura agrimensoria latina a Roma e, all’interno di questo ambito, viene caratterizzata in modo particolare la produzione attribuita a Giulio Frontino. Infine, anche grazie alla testimonianza diretta del Commentum, si rivaluta l’importanza delle opere di Frontino nell’insegnamento della geometria nel quadriuium tardoantico.This contribution attempts to provide further insight into the Commentum of the pseudo-Agennius Urbicus, the sole surviving Late-antique commentary on a classical Latin treatise on land surveying. For this purpose, the reasons which can justify the blossoming of a literature on the topic at Rome are explored. Within this corpus of land surveying texts, special attention is paid to Frontinus’ writings, whose role as a reference text for teaching geometria in Late-antique quadriuium is well demonstrated by the Commentum

Julius Solinus’ Collectanea rerum memorabilium was held in a really high esteem during all the Middle Ages, higher than almost any other Classical Latin prose work. A good example of Solinus’ auctoritas may be found in Fazio degli Uberti’s Dittamondo, an allegorical poem written in imitation of Dante’s Divina Commedia. Fazio degli Uberti chooses Solinus as the incarnation of Roman knowledge and his role in the poem runs parallel to the role played by Vergil in Dante’s Commedia. This paper offers a description of Solinus’ role in Fazio’s Dittamondo and emphasizes the significance of Solinus as a counterpart of Dante’s Vergil

Intorno alla lettera prefatoria e all’introduzione del 'Laterculus' di Polemio Silvio

L’approccio alla lettera prefatoria e alle sezioni introduttive del 'Laterculus' di Polemio Silvio si propone come scopo di offrire una visione di insieme dell’apertura di quest’opera, dove l’autore formula una serie di considerazioni di carattere definitorio e programmatico. Questo approccio comporterà la discussione filologica del testo, la definizione dei problemi riguardanti i contenuti e la caratterizzazione dei particolari tratti distintivi del 'Laterculus' di Polemio rispetto alla tradizione ad esso più vicina.This paper provides a new critical approach to the prefatory epistle and the introductory sections of Polemius Silvius’ 'Laterculus'. In the opening of his work, Polemius Silvius sets up some general and programmatic considerations related to the 'Laterculus': its nature, aims and intentions. Through a fresh philological evaluation of the text, some textual problems are identified and the best possible ways to work them out are pondered. Furthermore, the thorough analysis of Silvius’ statements regarding his work points out some distinctive aspects of his authorial intervention and responsibility on the 'Laterculus'
