The study was undertaken to find out the pattern of decision making of the Irula  tribal farm women of Nilgiris district in farm and home. The study revealed that Irula tribal farm women took self decision in the case of irrigating fields (85.00) followed by using plant protection measures (83.33) in case of farm management and took self decision in cases like selection and preparation of food (100.00), decorating the house (70.00) They had least participation in decisions like construction of new house (63.33) followed by borrowing and giving loans (38.33)

    Knowledge of Precision Farming Beneficiaries

Precision Farming is one of the many advanced farming practices that make production more efficient by better resource management and reducing wastage. TN-IAMWARM is a world bank funded project aims to improve the farm productivity and income through better water management. The present study was carried out in Kambainallur sub basin of Dharmapuri district with 120 TN-IAMWARM beneficiaries as respondents. The result indicated that more than three fourth (76.67 %) of the respondents had high level of knowledge on precision farming technologies which was made possible by the implementation of TN-IAMWARM project. The study further revealed that educational status, occupational status and exposure to agricultural messages had a positive and significant contribution to the knowledge level of the respondents at 0.01 level of probability whereas experience in precision farming and social participation had a positive and significant contribution at 0.05 level of probability

Relationship Between Knowledge Level and Characteristics of Pulses Seed Growers

    Get PDF
The study was undertaken to study the relationship between knowledge level and profile characteristics of pulses seed growers. A sample of 90 pulses seed growing farmers was selected from 3 blocks of Coimbatore district in Tamil Nadu. The blocks were Kinathukadavu, Thondamuthur and Karamadai. For the study 30 farmers from each of the three blocks, where the highest number of farmers cultivating pulses for seed production were selected by employing simple random sampling technique in each block. Collection of data was done with the help of semi structured interview schedule. The study revealed that experience in seed production, social participation, urban contact and information seeking behaviour would increase the knowledge level of seed growers. The variables experience in seed production was contributing more than 75 per cent of the variation inthe knowledge level.

The present investigation it to study the corrosion performance of fly ash blended cement concrete in chloride-contaminated environments by various electrochemical and non-electrochemical techniques. The chloride binding ability at the optimum replacement level of fly ash was also studied

Novel pH Responsive Amphiphilic Diblock Copolymers with Reversible Micellization Properties

Di-block copolymer of poly[methacrylic acid-block-2-(diethylamino)ethyl methacrylate] [P(MAA-b-DEA)] with narrow molecular weight distribution was synthesized using the atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) technique. The micellization behavior of the P(MAA-b-DEA) copolymer in aqueous solution at room temperature and different pH values were examined by potentiometric and conductivity titration, UV-Visible spectrophotometry, ÂąH-NMR, static and dynamic laser light scattering. At low pH ( 9.5), core-shell like micelles consisting of hydrophobic DEA core and ionized MAA shell were re-established.Singapore-MIT Alliance (SMA

Antimicrobial Activity of Aegle marmelos Against Pathogenic Organism Compared with Control Drug

    Get PDF
The aqueous and ethanolic extracts from the leaves of Aegle marmelos traditionally used in Indian system of Medicines were screened against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis by using disc diffusion test technique. Bacillus subtilis exhibit about 22mm inhibition zone were considered resistant. The zone of inhibition of the extract was compared with the standard antibiotics such as Penicillin. The study suggests that the plant is promising development of phytomedicine for antimicrobial properties

ABSTRACT Single crystals of semi-organic non-linear optical Glycine Sodium Chloride (GSC) have been successfully grown from three different pH (1.1, 6.0, and 10.8

Hemodynamic support with TandemHeart™ in tako-tsubo cardiomyopathy – a case report

    Get PDF
Tako-tsubo cardiomyopathy is characterized by chest pain, electrocardiographic abnormalities mimicking acute myocardial infarction, akinesis or dyskinesis of apical or mid left ventricular segments, and the absence of obstructive coronary artery disease. Tako-tsubo cardiomyopathy is usually a potentially reversible form of cardiac dysfunction. A careful literature search revealed no previous report of a patient requiring mechanical circulatory support in tako-tsubo cardiomyopathy. We report a patient with tako-tsubo cardiomyopathy, ventricular fibrillation, and hemodynamic instability requiring a left ventricular assist device (TandemHeart™) followed by improvement of left ventricular ejection fraction to 45%

Objective: The present study was planned to explore safer, innovative and economic Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEi) from beef extract by the action of a proteolytic Micrococcus luteus. Cytotoxicity of the stable peptide was predicted using MCF-7 cell line in vitro. Methods: ACEi was purified by sequential steps of ethanol precipitation, ion exchange column chromatography (MonoQ) and gel filtration column chromatography (Sephadex G25). The apparent molecular mass was determined by SDS-PAGE. The anticancer property was analyzed by studying the cytotoxicity effects of angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor using Breast cancer MCF-7 cell linesResults: The peptide was purified and molecular mass was determined as 4.5 kDa. The IC50 value of peptide was found to be 59.5 µg/ml. The DNA fragmentation was not observed in the treated cells. The purified peptide has demonstrated to induce apoptosis of cancer cell. The results proved that the peptide has the ability to be used for cancer therapy. Conclusion: The presence of ACE inhibition activities in the fermentation of beef extract using Micrococcus luteus has been investigated. The Peptide has been determined as an active compound that inhibited the activity of ACE. These properties indicate the possibilities of the use of purified protein as a potent anticancer agent. Keywords: Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, Micrococcus luteus, Anti-proliferative, Anti-metastatic, MCF-7 cell line, Anticancer activity

ISOLATION OF ANGIOTENSIN-CONVERTING ENZYME INHIBITOR PRODUCING BACTERIA FROM COW MILK

    Get PDF
Objective: To evaluate the potential of protease producing organism for the production of Angiotensin I–converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor by fermentation of various protein substrates. Methods: Bacterial strains were isolated from cow milk collected in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India by using serial dilution technique, plated on nutrient agar medium. The identity of the strain was ascertained by 16s rRNA gene sequencing method and was submitted to the NCBI GenBank nucleotide database. Various substrates were screened for ACE inhibitor production by the fermentation with the isolated strain. Results: The isolated coded as BUCTL09, which showed a significant zone of clearance was selected and identified as Micrococcus luteus (KF303592.1). Among the seven substrates, only beef extract fermented broth showed an inhibition of 79% and was reported as the best substrate. Conclusion: In the search for non-toxic, and economic ACE inhibitors as an alternative to the synthetic drugs, many natural ACE inhibitors have been isolated from a microbial source. In the present study, isolate BUCTL09 was selected for the production of ACE inhibitor from the beef extract. Findings from this study lead us to investigate this potent ACE inhibitor further for its biological properties and to explore the impending efficacy of the ACE inhibitor which may conceivably be developed into a prospective drug
