Design and synthesis of 1-aroyl-2-ylidene hydrazines under conventional and microwave irradiation conditions and their cytotoxic activities
We report the design and synthesis of 1-aroyl-2-(alkenyl/aryl)idene hydrazines as hybrid molecules derived from mefenamic acid and substituted hydrazones. A number of compounds based on this new scaffold were prepared in good yields. The key intermediate N-acylhydrazine, prepared from mefenamic acid, was coupled with a variety of aldehydes under conventional as well as microwave irradiation conditions. The second approach, that requires short reaction time, can be carried out under a solvent free condition and does not require the use of an acid catalyst or solid support. Some of the compounds synthesized showed cytotoxic activities in vitro
N-(2-Phenoxy-4-(3-phenoxyprop-1-ynyl)phenyl)methane Sulfonamide
The title compound, N-(2-phenoxy-4-(3-phenoxyprop-1-ynyl)phenyl) methanesulfonamide was synthesized in high yield by Sonogashira cross coupling of N-(4-iodo-2-phenoxyphenyl)methanesulfonamide with 3-phenoxyprop-1-yne. The structure of the compound was fully characterized by IR, 1H and 13C NMR, Mass spectra and elemental analysis
N-{2-[3-(3-Formyl-2-oxoquinolin-1(2H)-yl)prop-1-ynyl]phenyl}acetamide
The title compound, N-{2-[3-(3-formyl-2-oxoquinolin-1(2H)-yl)prop-1-ynyl]phenyl}acetamide was synthesized in high yield by Sonogashira cross coupling of 2-oxo-1-(prop-2-ynyl)-1,2-dihydroquinoline-3-carbaldehyde with N-(2-iodophenyl)acetamide. The structure of the compound was fully characterized by IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, Mass spectral analysis and elemental analysis
Hemangioendothelioma of soft tissue: Cytological dilemma in two cases at unusual sites
Hemangioendothelioma is a rare vascular tumor of intermediate malignancy. Cytologically, it can simulate a non-vascular malignant tumor. We report two cases of this tumor, which were misdiagnosed at cytology. In the first case, a 27-year-old man presented with an anterior abdominal wall tumor. Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) of the tumor showed polygonal cells with vacuolated cytoplasm in clusters having moderate nuclear atypia in a background of necrosis. A diagnosis of metastatic carcinoma was made. The histological examination showed features of epithelioid hemangioendothelioma. In the second case, a 13-year-old female child presented with unilateral enlargement of the right tonsil. At ultrasound-guided FNAC, a diagnosis of, ‘small round cell tumor, could be consistent with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma,’ was made. The histological examination showed features of papillary intralymphatic angioendothelioma (Dabska's tumor). We conclude that epithelioid hemangioendothelioma should be considered in the differential diagnosis of metastatic carcinoma and small round cell tumor even at unusual sites
Transition-metal/Lewis acid free synthesis of acyl benzothiophenes via C-C bond forming reaction
A simple and single-step synthesis of 2- and 3-acyl substituted benzothiophenes has been described via environmentally benign acylation of benzothiophene with in situ generated acyl trifluoroacetates. Both aliphatic and aromatic carboxylic acids participated in trifluoroacetic anhydride/phosphoric acid mediated C-C bond forming reactions under solvent-free conditions affording acyl benzothiophenes in good overall yields
