    Prevalence and Pattern of Sexual Dysfunction in Male Patients with Alcohol Dependence

    Background: Alcohol is a potent substance that causes both acute and chronic changes in almost all neurochemical systems, with the result that heavy drinking can produce serious psychological symptoms including depression, anxiety, and psychoses. It alsoaffects sexual health adversely and causes sexual dysfunction.Methods: This study aimed to find the prevalence and pattern of sexual dysfunction in male patients with alcohol dependence. This cross-sectional study included 100 patients attending psychiatry out patient department (OPD) at a tertiary care center in west India. Informed written consent was taken for collecting socio-demographic and clinical data in a uniform and standard manner. Sexual dysfunction was assessed using a sexual dysfunction checklist, constructed by Arackal and Benegal at the national institute of mental health and neuroscience, Bangalore containing 12 items from the diagnostic criteria for research and ICD-10 classification of mental and behavioral disorders. The Leeds dependence questionnaire was used to assess the severity of alcohol dependence. Findings: Sexual dysfunction was present in 62% of the patients. Among the patients, 36% had difficulty achieving an erection, 34% had difficulty maintaining an erection, 37% reported premature ejaculation, 7% had delayed ejaculation, 14% reported anorgasmia, 1% had ejaculation with a flaccid penis, 2% had pain during intercourse, 6% were dissatisfied with the frequency ofintercourse, 4% were dissatisfied with their sexual partner, and 7% were dissatisfied with their performance. Conclusion: Sexual dysfunction is significantly and positively associated with duration, amount of alcohol consumed per day, and severity of alcohol dependence

    Turning of hardened steel is an immense issue of interest concerning with machining technology and scientific research. A strategy to analyze vibration signals and its correlation on surface roughness and tool wear has not attracted much breakthrough in research so far in hard machining. Therefore, tool condition monitoring (TCM) study will be definitely worthwhile for the effective application in hard part turning. The current study examines about the online prediction of flank wear and surface roughness monitoring during dry hard turning of AISI 52100 steel (55 ± 1 HRC) utilizing MTCVD multilayer coated carbide insert (TiN/TiCN/Al2O3) considering machining parameters and vibration signals through development of prediction model (MLR and MQR) after studying the Pearson correlation coefficient and test for its accuracy. Pearson correlation coefficient for feed on flank wear is utmost pursued by acceleration amplitude of vibration (Vy) in radial direction, depth of cut and cutting speed. Similarly, acceleration amplitude of vibration followed by cutting speed and feed has strong correlation with surface roughness. MQR model predicts well for responses as percentage of error is quite less and cutting speed is obtained to be the most important parameter for vibration signal. Multiple quadratic regression (MQR) models are observed to be noteworthy, effective and adequate to predict response outputs with regards to the combined effect of machining parameters and vibration signals online.     ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITIES OF SCYTONEMA HOFMAN EXTRACTS AGAINST HUMAN PATHOGENIC BACTERIA

    Objective: The present study is focused, to evaluate the effectiveness of organic solvent or aqueous extracts of Scytonema hofman against some human bacterial pathogens.Methods: The aqueous and organic solvent extracts of Scytonema hofman were analyzed for their antibacterial property against some of the human bacterial pathogens by agar well diffusion technique followed by determination MIC value.Results: The results of the present study revealed that chloroform extracts of Scytonema hofman showed a maximum inhibition zones against Escherichia coli (17.9 mm) followed by Klebsiella pneumonia (14.3 mm) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (11.6 mm) but less effective against Staphylococcus aureus (4.8 mm). Similar result was also observed in case of ethanolic extract but having fewer inhibition zones when compared with chloroform extract. The aqueous extract was found to be insignificant along with other five organic solvent against all the tested human bacterial pathogens. The MIC values of chloroform extract were found to be 31.25 µg/ml against Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, whereas in case of Klebsiella pneumonia the value was found to be 250 µg/ml.Conclusion: The chloroform extract of Scytonema hofman was found to be the most effective antibacterial property against all the tested bacterial pathogens.Â

    Objective: As per the ethnopharmacological information has Butea monosperma been used to treat diabetes mellitus by the tribal people of tropical and subtropical areas. However, there is no much more scientific report available about the antidiabetic property of the leaves of the plant. Hence, the study was undertaken to evaluate the antidiabetic effect of ethanolic extract of B. monosperma on blood levels of adrenaline-induced and glucose feed diabetic rabbits.Methods: The three different doses of the extracts (100, 200, and 400 mg/kg) were administered orally to an experimental animal. The animals were induced diabetics by adrenaline and high glucose diet. Blood glucose level was measured accordingly. For antidiabetic activity, photocolorimeter was used to monitoring the blood glucose level with crest kit box (GOP-POD method).Results: The extracts showed considerable dose-dependent activity. However, the dose 400 mg/kg showed considerable lower of blood glucose level. p<0.01 indicates the significance result. 8 hrs reading 182.5±3.83 for 400 mg does is most effective for reducing blood sugar.Conclusion: The study indicates that the ethanolic extract of B. monosperma leaves possesses antidiabetic properties which suggest the presence of biologically active components

    Remarkable improvement in hydrogen storage capacities of two-dimensional carbon nitride (g-C3N4) nanosheets under selected transition metal doping

    We have performed DFT simulations to quest for an optimal material for onboard hydrogen (H2) storage applications. Using first-principles calculations, we established that the selected transition metals (M: Sc, Ti, Ni, V) decorated two-dimensional (2D) g-C3N4 sheets as optimal materials with reversible and significantly high H2 gravimetric densities. By effectively avoiding metal-metal (M-M) clustering effect in case of mono doping, up to four molecules of H2 per dopant could be adsorbed with an average binding energy of around 0.30-0.6 eV/H2, which is ideal for practical applications. Decorating the g-C3N4 sheet with (M-M) dimers, the systems are found to be even more efficient for H2 binding than single dopant decoration. The stability of these M decorated g-C3N4 sheets have been confirmed with ab-initio molecular dynamics simulations. We have further calculated the H2 desorption temperatures of metal decorated g-C3N4 sheets, which confirms the practical application of these metal decorated sheets at ambient working conditions
