    Using ERP Systems to Transform Business Processes: A Case Study at a Precession Engineering Company

    Enterprises nowadays strive to keep transforming their business processes in accordance with the fast- changing customer demands so as to survive the intense global competition. In an attempt to provide practitioners with an insight into ERP implementation and the resulting business performances, this paper investigate how a successful ERP implementation can help transform enterprises processes. Case based research which is based on an in-depth observation under managerial and practitioner situation. A case study at a precession engineering company is conducted to evaluate the feasibility of the proposed strategic enterprise information model. This paper focuses on the implementation of Sales & Marketing and Warehouse modules of an ERP system. The key performance indicators are used to evaluate how the ERP implementation can improve the business processes. It is found that ERP helps to improve data visibility and improve on-time delivery but less effective on improving employee productivity. This research proposes an enterprise information model to exploit what strategy should be formulate and how ERP tactic can be implemented in company to enhance enterprise competitive advantages.     Does accelerating universe indicates Brans-Dicke theory

    The evolution of universe in Brans-Dicke (BD) theory is discussed in this paper. Considering a parameterized scenario for BD scalar field ϕ=ϕ0aα\phi=\phi_{0}a^{\alpha} which plays the role of gravitational "constant" GG, we apply the Markov Chain Monte Carlo method to investigate a global constraints on BD theory with a self-interacting potential according to the current observational data: Union2 dataset of type supernovae Ia (SNIa), high-redshift Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs) data, observational Hubble data (OHD), the cluster X-ray gas mass fraction, the baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO), and the cosmic microwave background (CMB) data. It is shown that an expanded universe from deceleration to acceleration is given in this theory, and the constraint results of dimensionless matter density Ω0m\Omega_{0m} and parameter α\alpha are, Ω0m=0.2860.0390.047+0.037+0.050\Omega_{0m}=0.286^{+0.037+0.050}_{-0.039-0.047} and α=0.00460.01710.0206+0.0149+0.0171\alpha=0.0046^{+0.0149+0.0171}_{-0.0171-0.0206} which is consistent with the result of current experiment exploration, α0.132124\mid\alpha\mid \leq 0.132124. In addition, we use the geometrical diagnostic method, jerk parameter jj, to distinguish the BD theory and cosmological constant model in Einstein's theory of general relativity.Comment: 16 pages, 3 figure

    Caveolae protect endothelial cells from membrane rupture during increased cardiac output.

    Caveolae are strikingly abundant in endothelial cells, yet the physiological functions of caveolae in endothelium and other tissues remain incompletely understood. Previous studies suggest a mechanoprotective role, but whether this is relevant under the mechanical forces experienced by endothelial cells in vivo is unclear. In this study we have sought to determine whether endothelial caveolae disassemble under increased hemodynamic forces, and whether caveolae help prevent acute rupture of the plasma membrane under these conditions. Experiments in cultured cells established biochemical assays for disassembly of caveolar protein complexes, and assays for acute loss of plasma membrane integrity. In vivo, we demonstrate that caveolae in endothelial cells of the lung and cardiac muscle disassemble in response to acute increases in cardiac output. Electron microscopy and two-photon imaging reveal that the plasma membrane of microvascular endothelial cells in caveolin 1(-/-) mice is much more susceptible to acute rupture when cardiac output is increased. These data imply that mechanoprotection through disassembly of caveolae is important for endothelial function in vivo

    Development of a polymerase chain reaction procedure for detection and differentiation of duck and goose circovirus

    This article reports the complete nucleotide sequences of four duck circovirus (DuCV) isolates front sick ducks in Taiwan and development of a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for detection and differentiation of goose circovirus (GoCV) and DuCV. Sequence comparison showed that Taiwanese DuCV isolates had 82.5%-83.8% nucleotide sequence identity to the German and North American DuCV isolates. This is the first report on the presence Of DuCV and its associated diseases outside Germany. A PCR test was developed using a Universal primer pair based on conserved sequences present in the genomes of GoCV and DuCV. This PCR test Could detect and differentiate between GoCV and DuCV by the size of PCR product each virus produced (256 bp for GoCV and 228 bp for DuCV). Application of this PCR test to samples of bursa of Fabricius front sick birds in the field showed that 9 of 26 pose samples contained GoCV, while 13 of 34 duck samples contained DuCV. This PCR rest could serve as a fast and sensitive method For detection and differentiation of DuCV and GoCV
