Contribution to the biology of the blue swimming crab, Neptunus pelagicus (Linnaeus), with a note on the zoea of Thalamita crenata Latreille
Although crab fishery is not a Major industry in India, it is a source or income to many fishermen at this area particularly during the off-season. At the present rate or exploitat ion the possibility of depleting the stock may not happen in the immediate future, But in course of time the crab fishery, like any other fishery of our country , has possibilities of expansion
Account of the Fishery and fishing methods for Neptunus pelagicus (Linnaeus) near Mandapam
A study of the bionomics, life history and other related problems of Neptunus
pelagicus, the common edible c.-ab of the Gulf of Manaar and the Palk Bay was
started because it was felt desirable to investigate this crab and its fishery to
forestall the possibility of damage to the stock through injudicious exploitation
Development of fishery resources in India
Fish and Fish products have an important
place in the economy of India
not only because they are good foreign
exchange earners but are also important
to bridge the protein gap in the country.
Located as the country is, India holds a
vantClge position in the Indian Ocean,
the fishery resources of which have
been estimated to be nearly 49 million
tonnes
Some aspects of relative growth in the Blue Swimming Crab Neptunus pelagicus (Linnaeus)
The Blue Swimming Crab, Neptunus pelagicus displays in some of its parts
a marked sexual dimorphism (Prasad and Tampi, 1953) and, therefore, the authors
felt that a study of the relative growth of such parts might be interesting. Further,
as Weymouth and MacKay (1936) pointed out: "This method of analysis makes
possible the detection of changes of form which occur at certain physiological
epochs, notably that of attaining sexual maturity. In the crab, as in most inтАв
vertebrates, growth continues although at a decreasing rate throughout life.
Accordingly there is no final or definiti ve size or form as in man
Accent on brackishwater fish farming
Fresh water fish culture has made rapid
strides in this country following the researches
carried out by the Central Inland
Fisheries Research Institute and the development
of the technique of composite fish
culture. It has been demonstrated thot a
several fold increase in yield is possible by
mixed farming of Ihdian and exotic varieties
of carps
Giant Meterwave Radio Telescope observations of an M2.8 flare: insights into the initiation of a flare-coronal mass ejection event
We present the first observations of a solar flare with the GMRT. An M2.8
flare observed at 1060 MHz with the GMRT on Nov 17 2001 was associated with a
prominence eruption observed at 17 GHz by the Nobeyama radioheliograph and the
initiation of a fast partial halo CME observed with the LASCO C2 coronograph.
Towards the start of the eruption, we find evidence for reconnection above the
prominence. Subsequently, we find evidence for rapid growth of a vertical
current sheet below the erupting arcade, which is accompanied by the flare and
prominence eruption.Comment: Accepted for publication in Solar Physic
