Critical barriers to business intelligence open source software adoption
Over the past few years, managers have been hard pressed to become more data-driven, and one of the prerequisites in doing so is through the adoption of Business Intelligence (BI) tools. However (1) the adoption of BI tools remains relatively low (2) the acquisition costs of proprietary BI tools are relatively high and (3) the level of satisfaction with these BI tools remain low. Given the potential of open source BI (OSBI) tools, there is a need for analyzing barriers that prevent organizations from adopting OSBI. Drawing a systematic review and a Qualitative Survey of BI Experts, this study proposes a framework that categorizes and structures 23 barriers to OSBI adoption by organizations including 4 that were identified by BI Experts but not explicitly found in the literature. This paper contributes to OSS and Information Systems (IS) research literature on BI adoption in general and provides specific insights to practitioners. Copyright © 2019, IGI Global
Comparing the costs of home telemonitoring and usual care of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients: A randomized controlled trial
International audienceBackgroundWe investigated the effects associated with a telehomecare program for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease as part of a retrospective and prospective comparative randomized trial. This project was carried out in a regional homecare service for patients with severe chronic lung disease, located in Montreal, Canada.MethodsFor a period of 21.5 months, we followed a group of 60 patients receiving remote care and a comparable group of 60 patients receiving regular homecare services. We measured the intervention's effects on consumption of health services (emergency room visits, hospital admissions, and home visits by nurses and respiratory therapists) and the economic viability of the telehomecare program.ResultsThe results indicate that the intervention significantly reduced the number of hospitalization days and, to a smaller extent, the number of emergency room visits.

ERP lifecycle: When to retire your ERP system?
A lot of research has been undertaken focusing on ERP systems lifecycles, but very little paid attention to retirement. ERP retirement means the replacement of an ERP with another. The aim of this research paper is to investigate why and when should organizations retire their ERP systems. A convenience case study of an SME has been selected from Egypt. The case study under investigation has retired their local ERP system and replaced it with SAP ERP. Results of our analysis indicated that reasons of retirement were: wrong selection, users were not involved in the selection process, and lack of an official implementation methodology. This is considered a new finding since main stream literature was mainly focused on retirement after maturity
