Mixed Heisenberg Chains. II. Thermodynamics
We consider thermodynamic properties, e.g. specific heat, magnetic
susceptibility, of alternating Heisenberg spin chains. Due to a hidden Ising
symmetry these chains can be decomposed into a set of finite chain fragments.
The problem of finding the thermodynamic quantities is effectively separated
into two parts. First we deal with finite objects, secondly we can incorporate
the fragments into a statistical ensemble. As functions of the coupling
constants, the models exhibit special features in the thermodynamic quantities,
e.g. the specific heat displays double peaks at low enough temperatures. These
features stem from first order quantum phase transitions at zero temperature,
which have been investigated in the first part of this work.Comment: 12 pages, RevTeX, 12 embedded eps figures, cf. cond-mat/9703206,

Conducting search and rescue operations on the water with the use of rescue vessels in the event of emergencies is one of the main tasks of the Unified State System for the Prevention and Elimination of Emergencies (RSES), which makes it possible to reduce casualties and preserve people's health. Salvation of those in distress on the water must be organized in a timely manner, promptly and in a comprehensive manner, that is, in full volume for all kinds of rescue work for the victims
Stripe Ansatzs from Exactly Solved Models
Using the Boltzmann weights of classical Statistical Mechanics vertex models
we define a new class of Tensor Product Ansatzs for 2D quantum lattice systems,
characterized by a strong anisotropy, which gives rise to stripe like
structures. In the case of the six vertex model we compute exactly, in the
thermodynamic limit, the norm of the ansatz and other observables. Employing
this ansatz we study the phase diagram of a Hamiltonian given by the sum of XXZ
Hamiltonians along the legs coupled by an Ising term. Finally, we suggest a
connection between the six and eight-vertex Anisotropic Tensor Product Ansatzs,
and their associated Hamiltonians, with the smectic stripe phases recently
discussed in the literature.Comment: REVTEX4.b4 file, 10 pages, 2 ps Figures. Revised version to appear in

Residual entropy and spin gap in a one-dimensional analog of the pyrochlore antiferromagnet
We show that the low-energy sector of the S=1/2, antiferromagnetic Heisenberg
model on a one-dimensional lattice of coupled tetrahedra consists of 2^N
replica of the spectrum of the dimerized Heisenberg chain, where N is the
number of tetrahedra.
This provides a proof of the following properties: i) there is a residual
ground-state entropy per spin equal to 2^{1/4}; ii) there is a singlet-triplet
gap as long as the coupling between the tetrahedra is smaller than the internal
one. These properties are compared to available results on the pyrochlore
lattice.Comment: 4 pages with 3 figure
Linear independence of localized magnon states
At the magnetic saturation field, certain frustrated lattices have a class of
states known as "localized multi-magnon states" as exact ground states. The
number of these states scales exponentially with the number of spins and
hence they have a finite entropy also in the thermodynamic limit
provided they are sufficiently linearly independent. In this article we present
rigorous results concerning the linear dependence or independence of localized
magnon states and investigate special examples. For large classes of spin
lattices including what we called the orthogonal type and the isolated type as
well as the kagom\'{e}, the checkerboard and the star lattice we have proven
linear independence of all localized multi-magnon states. On the other hand the
pyrochlore lattice provides an example of a spin lattice having localized
multi-magnon states with considerable linear dependence.Comment: 23 pages, 6 figure
Evolutionary Meta Layout of Graphs
A graph drawing library is like a toolbox, allowing experts to select and configure a specialized algorithm in order to meet the requirements of their diagram visualization application. However, without expert knowledge of the algorithms the potential of such a toolbox cannot be fully exploited. This gives rise to the question whether the process of selecting and configuring layout algorithms can be automated such that good layouts are produced. In this paper we call this kind of automation "meta layout." We propose a genetic representation that can be used in meta heuristics for meta layout and contribute new metrics for the evaluation of graph drawings. Furthermore, we examine the use of an evolutionary algorithm to search for optimal solutions and evaluate this approach both with automatic experiments and a user study. The results confirm that our methods can actually help users to find good layout configurations
Magnetic Properties of Quantum Ferrimagnetic Spin Chains
Magnetic susceptibilities of spin- ferrimagnetic Heisenberg chains are
numerically investigated. It is argued how the ferromagnetic and
antiferromagnetic features of quantum ferrimagnets are exhibited as functions
of . Spin- ferrimagnetic chains behave like combinations of
spin- ferromagnetic and spin- antiferromagnetic chains provided

Matrix Product Ground States for Asymmetric Exclusion Processes with Parallel Dynamics
We show in the example of a one-dimensional asymmetric exclusion process that
stationary states of models with parallel dynamics may be written in a matrix
product form. The corresponding algebra is quadratic and involves three
different matrices. Using this formalism we prove previous conjectures for the
equal-time correlation functions of the model.Comment: LaTeX, 8 pages, one postscript figur
Impact of brief prewarming on anesthesia-related core-temperature drop, hemodynamics, microperfusion and postoperative ventilation in cytoreductive surgery of ovarian cancer: a randomized trial
Background: General (GA)- and epidural-anesthesia may cause a drop in body-core-temperature (BCT(drop)), and hypothermia, which may alter tissue oxygenation (StO(2)) and microperfusion after cytoreductive surgery for ovarian cancer. Cell metabolism of subcutaneous fat- or skeletal muscle cells, measured in microdialysis, may be affected. We hypothesized that forced-air prewarming during epidural catheter placement and induction of GA maintains normothermia and improves microperfusion. Methods: After ethics approval 47 women scheduled for cytoreductive surgery were prospectively enrolled. Women in the study group were treated with a prewarming of 43 °C during epidural catheter placement. BCT (Spot on®, 3 M) was measured before (T(1)), after induction of GA (T(2)) at 15 min (T(3)) after start of surgery, and until 2 h after ICU admission (T(ICU2h)). Primary endpoint was BCT(drop) between T(1) and T(2). Microperfusion-, hemodynamic- and clinical outcomes were defined as secondary outcomes. Statistical analysis used the Mann-Whitney-U- and non-parametric-longitudinal tests. Results: BCT(drop) was 0.35 °C with prewarming and 0.9 °C without prewarming (p < 0.005) and BCT remained higher over the observation period (ΔT(4) = 0.9 °C up to ΔT(7) = 0.95 °C, p < 0.001). No significant differences in hemodynamic parameters, transfusion, arterial lactate and dCO(2) were measured. In microdialysis the ethanol ratio was temporarily, but not significantly, reduced after prewarming. Lactate, glucose and glycerol after PW tended to be more constant over the entire period. Postoperatively, six women without prewarming, but none after prewarming were mechanical ventilated (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Prewarming at 43 °C reduces the BCT(drop) and maintains normothermia without impeding the perioperative routine patient flow. Microdialysis indicate better preserved parameters of microperfusion. Trial registration: ClinicalTrials.gov; ID: NCT02364219; Date of registration: 18-febr-2015
Mixed-spin systems: coexistence of Haldane gap and antiferromagnetic long range order
Recent experiments on the quasi-1D antiferromagnets (R =
rare earth) have shown the existence of purely 1D Haldane gap excitations
propagating on the Ni chains. Below an ordering temperature, the gap
excitations survive and coexist with the conventional spin waves in the ordered
phase. We construct a model mixed-spin system in 2D for which the ground state
can be exactly specified. Using the Matrix Product Method, we show the
existence of Haldane gap excitations in the ordered phase. We consider
different cases of ordering to study the effect of ordering on the degeneracy
of the Haldane gap excitations.Comment: 13 pages, LaTeX, 2 Postscript figures, communicated to Phys. Rev.
