Italian real life experience with brentuximab vedotin : results of a large observational study on 234 relapsed/refractory Hodgkin's lymphoma

A large Italian multicenter observational retrospective study was conducted on the use of brentuximab vedotin (BV) for patients with relapsed Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL) to check if clinical trial results are confirmed even in a real life context. 234 CD30+ HL patients were enrolled. Best response was observed after a median of 4 cycles in 140 patients (59.8%): 74 (31.6%) patients obtained a complete response (CR) and 66 (28.2%) achieved a partial response (PR); overall response rate at the end of the treatment was 48.3% (62 CR and 51 PR). The best response rate was higher in the elderly subset: 14 (50%) CR and 5 (17.8%) PR. Disease free survival was 26.3% at 3 years and progression free survival 31.9% at 4.5 years. Duration of response did not differ for who achieved at least PR and then either did or did not undergo consolidative transplant. Overall, the treatment was well tolerated and no death has been linked to BV-induced toxicity. Our report confirms activity in elderly patients, duration of response unrelated to the consolidation with transplant procedure, the relevance of the CR status at first restaging, and the role of BV as a bridge to transplant for chemorefractory patients

Primary pyrolysis and oxidation reactions of linear and branched alkanes

Detailed kinetic schemes of hydrocarbon pyrolysis, partial oxidation, and combustion are now becoming more available in the technical literature, and despite their dimensions and complexity they are based on only a limited set of independent kinetic parameters and simplifying assumptions. These hypotheses and kinetic parameters as well as the automatic generation of these reaction mechanisms are discussed and analyzed in this paper. Some examples are reported to demonstrate the reliability of these mechanistic schemes, both in pyrolysis processes for ethylene production and in the oxidation of hydrocarbon mixtures in engines

Oxidation of oxygenated octane improvers: MTBE, ETBE, DIPE, AND TAME

In this work, the oxidation of MTBE, ETBE, DIPE, and TAME was investigated experimentally in a high-pressure jet-stirred reactor (JSR) in the high-temperature oxidation regime (800-1150 K, 10 atm, phi = 0.5-2, 0.1% of ether, and 0.5 s). New experimental data on mole fractions of reactants, intermediates, and final products were measured using probe sampling followed by gas chromatograph (GC) analyses. These data were used to extend an already available oxidation reaction model for primary reference fuels. This extension to the ether components only required die insertion of a small subset of new primary reactions where kinetic parameters are evaluated on the basis of similarity and analogy rules inside reaction classes and generalized prediction methods for H-abstraction reactions. The fair agreement observed between experimental data and model predictions in different operating conditions confirms the validity of the proposed approach and allows the modeling of oxidation and combustion of commercial gasoline

Unusual presentation of large B cell lymphoma : a case report and review of literature

    No full text
Diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the largest subtype of non-Hodgkin's lymphomas (NHLs) and is characterized by relatively frequent extranodal presentation. In these cases, the most common extranodal localizations are stomach, CNS, bone, testis and liver. Simultaneous detection of multiple extranodal involvement at presentation is quite uncommon, with the majority of these cases characterized by gastric or intestinal disease localization. Retrospective analysis concerning multifocal extranodal NHLs never pointed out disease features such as those described here. We report a patient with an unusual presentation of DLBCL, characterized by adrenal and renal involvement, associated with symptoms and signs of the cold agglutinin disease and a hypercoagulable state. Subsequently, computed tomography (CT) and fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) scanning disclosed a rapidly extensive spread to nodes and bones. Cytofluorimetric analysis of a renal specimen showed medium-to-large lympho-monocytoid elements positive for CD20 with monoclonal expression of immunoglobulin kappa light chain. Histopathological examination confirmed a renal CD20 positive DLBCL localization
