    Pion correlation from Skyrmion-AntiSkyrmion annihilation

    Get PDF
We study two pion correlations from Skyrmion and antiSkyrmion collision, using the product ansatz and an approximate random grooming method for nucleon projection. The spatial-isospin coupling inherent in the Skyrme model, along with empirical averages, leads to correlations not only among pions of like charges but also among unlike charge types.Comment: uuencoded files of REVTeX and postscript, 18 pages including 2 figures, submitted to Phys.Rev.

Assessing the Efficiency of Mother-to-Child HIV Prevention in Low- and Middle-Income Countries using Data Envelopment Analysis

AIDS is one of the most significant health care problems worldwide. Due to the difficulty and costs involved in treating HIV, preventing infection is of paramount importance in controlling the AIDS epidemic. The main purpose of this paper is to explore the potential of using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) to establish international comparisons on the efficiency implementation of HIV prevention programmes. To this effect we use data from 52 low- and middle-income countries regarding the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV. Our results indicate that there is a remarkable variation in efficiency of prevention services across nations, suggesting that a better use of resources could lead to more and improved services, and ultimately, prevent the infection of thousands of children. These results also demonstrate the potential strategic role of DEA for the efficient and effective planning of scarce resources to fight the epidemic.HIV Prevention; DEA; Mother-to-Child HIV Transmission.

Application of the FANTASTIC Lifestyle Questionnaire in the Academic Context

Studying citizens’ lifestyles is extremely important for understanding society and the social conditions of the personal lifestyle. Understanding the lifestyles of university students is especially important because they will be the future citizens and professionals who will shape society’s future. The aim of this study was a systematic review of the scientific literature about the use of the FANTASTIC Lifestyle questionnaire in an academic context. The reflective systematic literature review was carried out on PubMed, MEDLINE, Science Direct, and SCIELO databases with the keywords (“FANTASTIC Lifestyle questionnaire” OR “FANTASTICO questionnaire” OR “FANTASTIC questionnaire” OR “FANTASTIC survey” OR “FANTASTIC checklist”) AND (“university students”). The PRISMA criteria for reporting systematic reviews and meta-analyses were applied. The inclusion criteria were the use of the “FANTASTIC Lifestyle questionnaire” instrument for measuring lifestyles, the presentation of quantitative or qualitative results, and psychometric studies. The exclusion criteria were no use of FANTASTIC Lifestyle Questionnaire; other population, no quantitative or qualitative analysis, incomplete articles. The 15 scientific articles included in the study were analyzed. This literature review allowed us to conclude the importance and usefulness/actuality of this questionnaire. Furthermore, the importance of diagnosis should be emphasized, as should the development of strategies and intervention programs for the maintenance or creation of healthy societies

Aloinjerto osteocondral bipolar fresco del tobillo. Revisión de la literatura y presentación del caso de un paciente joven con artrosis bilateral postraumática

OBJECTIVES: The treatment of severe post-traumatic ankle arthritis remains a challenge nowadays. Since patients suffering from this pathology are mainly young and active people, a correct reconstruction, if possible, of the articular cartilage defects of the tibiotalar joint is very important to achieve a good result. Fresh bipolar osteochondral allograft (FBOA) is a promising operative technique, as an alternative to arthrodesis and total ankle replacement, in pain relief, restoration of function and indefinite delay of arthritic disease progression. METHODS: The authors made a review of the literature and present a case report of a young 30 years-old man, with bilateral post-traumatic osteoarthritis of the ankle, treated with (FBOA). The patient was evaluated clinically and radiographically monthly. RESULTS: Pain relief and postoperative function was significantly improved reaching 94 points in the left ankle (preoperative of 40 points), and 92 points in the right ankle (preoperative 42 points) AOFAS score. CONCLUSIONS: Fresh tibiotalar allografting seems to be a good alternative to arthrodesis and prosthetic replacement, in the treatment of ankle arthropathy and big articular cartilage defects mainly in young and active patients. This procedure achieves a good pain relief, maintaining functional joint motion and decreasing the risk of adjacent joint arthritis

On the relationship of the scaled phase space and Skyrme-coherent state treatments of proton antiproton annihilation at rest

We discuss pion multiplicities and single pion momentum spectra from proton antiproton annihilation at rest. Both the scaled phase space model and the Skyrme-coherent state approach describe these observables well. In the coherent state approach the puzzling size of the scale parameter relating the phase space integrals for different multiplicities is replaced by a well defined weight function. The strength of this function is determined by the intensity of the classical pion field and its spatial extent is of order 1 fm.Comment: 11 pages including 4 figures(postscript
