Developing real-life driving simulations for novice driver education

This paper will describe the technological aspects of producing live-action videos of real traffic scenarios for a new driver education training CD-ROM (CD DRIVES) aimed at novice drivers in New Zealand. CD-DRIVES was created in order to help young drivers practise crucial higher level driving skills such as eye scanning, hazard detection and risk management. We will present a roadmap of the technological advances made through hardware, software and processes used in the production and post-production stages of CD-DRIVES

A Computer-Based Interactive Multimedia Training CD-ROM for Novice Drivers in New Zealand

This paper will describe the psychological and educational rationales behind the development of a computer-based interactive multimedia training CD-ROM (‘CD-DRIVES’) that will be made available to all novice drivers in New Zealand at no cost to the individual. Novice drivers are lacking in crucial higher level driving skills such as eye scanning, hazard detection and risk management. More than 70 real-life traffic simulations allow these drivers to practice such skills from the safety of their own homes

Greater understanding of spacing needs for children’s eye movements during on-screen reading is required

This paper endeavors to consolidate current knowledge and empirical research concerning the use of typography for children’s on-screen reading. This paper is not intended as a full literature review, but attempts to raise awareness of the areas required for future investigation. This evaluation indicates a significant gap in the literature of children’s on-screen reading and proposes a need for further investigations in typographical spacing. These future studies need to objectively consider children’s eye movements and the effect of screen based text presentation on children’s comprehension

Exclusive photoproduction of ϕ\phi meson in γp→ϕp\gamma p \to \phi p and pp→pϕpp p \to p \phi p reactions

The amplitude for $\gamma p \to \phi p$ is calculated in a pQCD $k_{T}$ - factorization approach. The total cross section for this process is compared with HERA data. Total cross section, as a function of photon-proton energy and photon virtuality, is calculated. We also discuss the ratio of $\sigma_{L}$ / $\sigma_{T}$ and the dependence on the mass of the strange quark. The amplitude for $\gamma p \to \phi p$ is used to predict the cross section for exclusive photoproduction of $\phi$ meson in proton-proton collisions. Absorption effects are included. The results for RHIC, Tevatron and LHC energies are presented.Comment: 10 pages, 5 figure

This paper describes datasets that will shortly be made available to the research community through an Internet measurement data repository operated by the RIPE NCC. The datasets include measurements collected by RIPE NCC projects, packet trace sets recovered from the defunct NLANR website and datasets collected and currently hosted by other research institutions. This work aims to raise awareness of these datasets amongst researchers and to promote discussion about possible changes to the data collection processes to ensure that the measurements are relevant and useful to the community
