Study of sequential semileptonic decays of b hadrons produced at the Tevatron
We present a study of rates and kinematical properties of lepton pairs
contained in central jets with transverse energy E_T > 15 GeV that are produced
at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. We compare the data to a QCD prediction
based on the HERWIG and QQ Monte Carlo generator programs. We find that the data
are poorly described by the simulation, in which sequential semileptonic decays
of single b quarks (b --> l c X with c --> l s X) are the major source of such
lepton pairs.Comment: 25 pages, 8 figures. Some typos were fixed in the text and

Phenomenological study of the atypical heavy flavor production observed at the Fermilab Tevatron
We address known discrepancies between the heavy flavor properties of jets
produced at the Tevatron collider and the prediction of conventional-QCD
simulations. In this study, we entertain the possibility that these effects are
real and due to new physics. We show that all anomalies can be simultaneously
fitted by postulating the additional pair production of light bottom squarks
with a 100% semileptonic branching fraction.Comment: 30 pages, 13 figures, 3 tables. Submitted to Phys. Rev.
Cultural Adaptation of the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale: Reliability and Validity of an Italian Version
Objective
The aim of this study was to evaluate the reliability and validity of an Italian version of the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS; Gratz & Roemer, 2004).
Method
Three studies were completed. First, factorial structure, internal consistency, and concurrent validity of our Italian version of the DERS were examined with a sample of 323 students (77% female; mean age 25.6). Second, test-retest analyses were completed using a different sample of 61 students (80% female; mean age 24.7). Third, the scores produced by a small clinical sample of participants (N = 38; mean age = 24.2) affected by anorexia, binge eating disorder, or bulimia were compared to those of an age-matched, nonclinical female sample (N = 38; mean age = 24.7).
Results
The factorial structure replicated quite well the six-factor structure proposed by Gratz and Roemer. The internal consistency and test-retest reliability were adequate and comparable to previous findings. The validity was good, as indicated by both the concurrent validity analysis and the clinical-nonclinical sample comparison.
Conclusions
These studies provide further support for the multidimensional model of emotion regulation postulated by Gratz and Roemer and strengthen the rationale for cross-cultural utilization of the DERS. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Clin. Psychol. 00:1-20, 2012
Multi-muon events at the Tevatron: a hidden sector from hadronic collisions
Intrigued by some features of a small but significant fraction of the
multi-muon events recently published by the CDF collaboration, we show an
explicit attempt to describe them in terms of a light scalar singlet
which communicates with the standard quarks either through a heavy scalar or a
heavy fermion exchange. As suggested in arXiv:0810.7530, the singlet has
a chain decay into a final state made of four pairs. We can
simulate most of the muon properties of the selected sample of events. Some of
these properties adhere rather well to the already published data; others
should allow a decisive test of the proposed interpretation. Assuming that the
test is positively passed, we show how the PAMELA excess can be fitted by the
annihilation of a TeV Dark Matter particle that communicates with the Standard
Model via the new light singlet(s).Comment: 19 pp, v2: small changes, agrees with the published versio

Comparison of the total cross sections measurements of CDF and E811
The total cross section at {radical}s = 1.8 TeV has been measured by three groups (CDF, E710, and E811). We think that CDF should quote results based only on our own measurement. We also indicate how to compare cross sections measured by both CDF and D0
Search for narrow resonances below the Upsilon mesons
We have investigated the invariant mass spectrum of dimuons collected by the
CDF experiment during the 1992-1995 run of the Fermilab Tevatron collider to
improve the limit on the existence of narrow resonances set by the experiments
at the SPEAR e+e- collider. In the mass range 6.3-9.0 GeV/c^2, we derive 90%
upper credible limits to the ratio of the production cross section times muonic
branching fraction of possible narrow resonances to that of the Y(1S) meson. In
this mass range, the average limit varies from 1.7 to 0.5%. This limit is much
worse at the mass of 7.2 GeV/c^2 due to an excess of 250+-61 events with a
width consistent with the detector resolution.Comment: 20 pages, 9 figures. This version has some typos fixed in the text

Measurement of J/Psi and Psi(2S) Polarization in ppbar Collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV
We have measured the polarization of J/Psi and Psi(2S) mesons produced in
p\bar{p} collisions at \sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV, using data collected at CDF during
1992-95.
The polarization of promptly produced J/Psi [Psi(2S)] mesons is isolated from
those produced in B-hadron decay, and measured over the kinematic range 4[5.5]
< P_T < 20 GeV/c and |y| < 0.6. For P_T \gessim 12 GeV/c we do not observe
significant polarization in the prompt component.Comment: Revised version, accepted for publication in Physical Review Letter
