    Neutral scalar Higgs bosons in the USSM at the LHC

    We study the possibility of discovering neutral scalar Higgs bosons in the U(1)′U(1)'-extended supersymmetric standard model (USSM) at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC), by examining their productions via the exotic quark loop in the gluon fusion process at leading order. It is possible in some parameter region that the neutral scalar Higgs bosons may have stronger couplings with the exotic quarks than with top quark. In this case, the exotic quarks may contribute more significantly than top quark in productions of the neutral scalar Higgs bosons in the gluon fusion process. We find that there is indeed some parameter region in the USSM that supports our speculations.Comment: 18 pages; changed content; JPhys

    Higher Derivative CP(N) Model and Quantization of the Induced Chern-Simons Term

    We consider higher derivative CP(N) model in 2+1 dimensions with the Wess-Zumino-Witten term and the topological current density squared term. We quantize the theory by using the auxiliary gauge field formulation in the path integral method and prove that the extended model remains renormalizable in the large N limit. We find that the Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory is dynamically induced in the large N effective action at a nontrivial UV fixed point.     Charmonium-Nucleon Dissociation Cross Sections in the Quark Model

    Charmonium dissociation cross sections due to flavor-exchange charmonium-baryon scattering are computed in the constituent quark model. We present results for inelastic J/ψNJ/\psi N and ηcN\eta_c N scattering amplitudes and cross sections into 46 final channels, including final states composed of various combinations of DD, D∗D^*, Σc\Sigma_c, and Λc\Lambda_c. These results are relevant to experimental searches for the deconfined phase of quark matter, and may be useful in identifying the contribution of initial ccˉc\bar c production to the open-charm final states observed at RHIC through the characteristic flavor ratios of certain channels.     Evidence of unconventional low-frequency dynamics in the normal phase of Ba(Fe1-xRhx)2As2 iron-based supercondutors

    This work presents 75As NMR spin echo decay rate (1/T2) measurements in Ba(Fe1-xRhx)2As2 superconductors, for 0.041 < x < 0.094. It is shown that 1/T2 increases upon cooling, in the normal phase, suggesting the onset of an unconventional very low-frequency activated dynamic. The correlation times of the fluctuations and their energy barriers are derived. The motion is favored at large Rh content, while it is hindered by the application of a magnetic field perpendicular to the FeAs layers. The same dynamic is observed in the spin-lattice relaxation rate, in a quantitatively consistent manner. These results are discussed in the light of nematic fluctuations involving domain wall motion. The analogies with the behaviour observed in the cuprates are also outlined

    Constraining the unexplored period between reionization and the dark ages with observations of the global 21 cm signal

    Observations of the frequency dependence of the global brightness temperature of the redshifted 21 cm line of neutral hydrogen may be possible with single dipole experiments. In this paper, we develop a Fisher matrix formalism for calculating the sensitivity of such instruments to the 21 cm signal from reionization and the dark ages. We show that rapid reionization histories with duration delta z< 2 can be constrained, provided that local foregrounds can be well modelled by low order polynomials. It is then shown that observations in the range nu = 50 - 100 MHz can feasibly constrain the Lyman alpha and X-ray emissivity of the first stars forming at z = 15 - 25, provided that systematic temperature residuals can be controlled to less than 1 mK. Finally, we demonstrate the difficulty of detecting the 21 cm signal from the dark ages before star formation.Comment: 11 pages, 14 figures, submitted to PR

    Molecular beam epitaxial growth of high-quality InSb on InP and GaAs substrates

    Epitaxial layers of InSb were grown on InP and GaAs substrates by molecular beam epitaxy. The dependence of the epilayer quality on flux ratio, J sub Sb4/J sub In, was studied. Deviation from an optimum value of J sub Sb4/J sub In (approx. 2) during growth led to deterioration in the surface morphology and the electrical and crystalline qualities of the films. Room temperature electron mobilities as high as 70,000 and 53,000 sq cm /V-s were measured in InSb layers grown on InP and GaAs substrates, respectively. Unlike the previous results, the conductivity in these films is n-type even at T = 13 K, and no degradation of the electron mobility due to the high density of dislocations was observed. The measured electron mobilities (and carrier concentrations) at 77 K in InSb layers grown on InP and GaAs substrates are 110,000 sq cm/V-s (3 x 10(15) cm(-3)) and 55,000 sq cm/V-s (4.95 x 10(15) cm(-3)), respectively, suggesting their application to electronic devices at cryogenic temperatures
