    What is the value of corporate sponsorship in sports?

    This paper investigates the stock market reaction to investor mood swings resulting from the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket matches. We find that stocks listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) that sponsor the IPL cricket are unaffected by the cricket matches. This finding is robust along two lines: (a) the effect is insignificant both statistically and economically which we demonstrate using a simple trading strategy; and (b) results hold across a wide range of portfolios. Our results, both statistical and trading strategy-based, suggest that the portfolios of companies that sponsor cricket in India are efficient. Our findings stand in sharp contrast to the evidence obtained by the broader sports literature suggesting that sports actually impact stock returns, driven principally by psychological factors

    Self similar Barkhausen noise in magnetic domain wall motion

    A model for domain wall motion in ferromagnets is analyzed. Long-range magnetic dipolar interactions are shown to give rise to self-similar dynamics when the external magnetic field is increased adiabatically. The power spectrum of the resultant Barkhausen noise is of the form 1/ωα1/\omega^\alpha, where α1.5\alpha\approx 1.5 can be estimated from the critical exponents for interface depinning in random media.Comment: 7 pages, RevTex.     Lifshitz-like systems and AdS null deformations

    Following arXiv:1005.3291 [hep-th], we discuss certain lightlike deformations of AdS5×X5AdS_5\times X^5 in Type IIB string theory sourced by a lightlike dilaton Φ(x+)\Phi(x^+) dual to the N=4 super Yang-Mills theory with a lightlike varying gauge coupling. We argue that in the case where the x+x^+-direction is noncompact, these solutions describe anisotropic 3+1-dim Lifshitz-like systems with a potential in the x+x^+-direction generated by the lightlike dilaton. We then describe solutions of this sort with a linear dilaton. This enables a detailed calculation of 2-point correlation functions of operators dual to bulk scalars and helps illustrate the spatial structure of these theories. Following this, we discuss a nongeometric string construction involving a compactification along the x+x^+-direction of this linear dilaton system. We also point out similar IIB axionic solutions. Similar bulk arguments for x+x^+-noncompact can be carried out for deformations of AdS4×X7AdS_4\times X^7 in M-theory.Comment: Latex, 20pgs, 1 eps fig; v2. references added; v3. minor clarifications added, to appear in PR

    Determining the sign of Δ31\Delta_{31} at long baseline neutrino experiments

    Recently it is advocated that high intensity and low energy (Eν2GeV)(E_\nu \sim 2 GeV) neutrino beams should be built to probe the (13)(13) mixing angle ϕ\phi to a level of a few parts in 10410^4. Experiments using such beams will have better signal to background ratio in searches for νμνe\nu_\mu \to \nu_e oscillations. We propose that such experiments can also determine the sign of Δ31\Delta_{31} even if the beam consists of {\it neutrinos} only. By measuring the νμνe\nu_\mu \to \nu_e transitions in two different energy ranges, the effects due to propagation of neutrinos through earth's crust can be isolated and the sign of Δ31\Delta_{31} can be determined. If the sensitivity of an experiment to ϕ\phi is ϵ\epsilon, then the same experiment is automatically sensitive to matter effects and the sign of Δ31\Delta_{31} for values of ϕ2ϵ\phi \geq 2 \epsilon.Comment: Title changed and paper rewritten. 4 pages, 1 figure, revte

So, it becomes important to know the details about this disease in terms of Nidana (etiological factors), Samprapti (Pathogenesis), lakshyanas (symptomatology), Upadrava (complications), Sadhya-sadhyata (prognosis) and chikitsa (management) of this disease, in order to treat or prevent the disease. Here an effort was made to describe details about this disease both in Ayurvedic as well as modern view and interpreted each other. It helps physician to know about this disease in detail. So that, they can treat successfully to this disease for the benefits of mankind

    Incidence, types and clinical implications of a non-metrical variant - mylohyoid bridging in human mandibles

    Mylohyoid bridging (MB) is a non-metrical variant of the human mandible. The incidence and types of MB were investigated in 264 mandibles (edentulous 116, semi-dentulous 90 and dentulous 58). No mandible showed a complete type of MB, although 19 (7.2%) mandibles had a partial type. These were classified into two subtypes: distal partial (DP; Type I) and proximal partial (PP; Type II), depending on their location over the mylohyoid groove. The MB was present unilaterally in 7.76% of edentulous mandibles: right side 5.17% (3.45% PP type and 1.72% DP type) and left side 2.59% (1.72% PP type and 0.86% DP type). Of the semi-dentulous mandibles 3.33% had DP type of MB, 1.11% on the right side and 2.22% on the left side, and of the dentulous mandibles 1.72% had DP type of MB on the right side. A total of 13 mandibles out of 264 (4.92%) had unilateral MB. No dentulous mandible had bilateral MB, but 3.45% of edentulous and 2.22% of semi-dentulous mandibles did have. In total, 6 mandibles out of 264 bones (2.27%) had bilateral MB. Of the bilateral incidences 1.72% of edentulous mandibles had a DP-DP combination and the remaining 1.72% had a PP-DP combination. However, both instances of bilateral MB in semi-dentulous mandibles were of PP-DP combination. The incidence or types of MB showed no statistically significant differences between the groups or sides (p > 0.5; χ2 test). In conclusion, the complete type of MB is a rare occurrence. The incidence increases with age, as edentulous mandibles had a higher incidence of MB than the other two groups. Clinically, MB may compress the mylohyoid neurovascular bundle, leading to neurological or vascular disorders
