Ward identity and electrical conductivity in hot QED
We study the Ward identity for the effective photon-electron vertex summing
the ladder diagrams contributing to the electrical conductivity in hot QED at
leading logarithmic order. It is shown that the Ward identity requires the
inclusion of a new diagram in the integral equation for the vertex that has not
been considered before. The real part of this diagram is subleading and
therefore the final expressions for the electrical conductivity at leading
logarithmic order are not affected.Comment: 25 pages with 5 eps figures, discussion in section 3 improved; to

Transport coefficients from the 2PI effective action
We show that the lowest nontrivial truncation of the two-particle irreducible
(2PI) effective action correctly determines transport coefficients in a weak
coupling or 1/N expansion at leading (logarithmic) order in several
relativistic field theories. In particular, we consider a single real scalar
field with cubic and quartic interactions in the loop expansion, the O(N) model
in the 2PI-1/N expansion, and QED with a single and many fermion fields.
Therefore, these truncations will provide a correct description, to leading
(logarithmic) order, of the long time behavior of these systems, i.e. the
approach to equilibrium. This supports the promising results obtained for the
dynamics of quantum fields out of equilibrium using 2PI effective action
techniques.Comment: 5 pages, explanation in introduction expanded, summary added; to

A transport coefficient: the electrical conductivity
I describe the lattice determination of the electrical conductivity of the
quark gluon plasma. Since this is the first extraction of a transport
coefficient with a degree of control over errors, I next use this to make
estimates of other transport related quantities using simple kinetic theory
formulae. The resulting estimates are applied to fluctuations, ultra-soft
photon spectra and the viscosity. Dimming of ultra-soft photons is exponential
in the mean free path, and hence is a very sensitive probe of transport.Comment: Talk given in ICPAQGP 2005, SINP, Kolkat
Oscillatory behavior of the in-medium interparticle potential in hot gauge system with scalar bound states
We investigate the in-medium interparticle potential of hot gauge system with
bound states by employing the QED and scalar QED coupling. At finite
temperature an oscillatory behavior of the potential has been found as well as
its variation in terms of different free parameters. We expect the competition
among the parameters will lead to an appropriate interparticle potential which
could be extended to discuss the fluid properties of QGP with scalar bound
states
Transport Coefficients of Gluon Plasma
Transport coefficients of gluon plasma are calculated for a SU(3) pure gauge
model by lattice QCD simulations on and
lattices. Simulations are carried out at a slightly above the deconfinement
transition temperature , where a new state of matter is currently being
pursued in RHIC experiments. Our results show that the ratio of the shear
viscosity to the entropy is less than one and the bulk viscosity is consistent
with zero in the region, .Comment: 10 pages, Late
Shear Viscosity in the O(N) Model
We compute the shear viscosity in the O(N) model at first nontrivial order in
the large N expansion. The calculation is organized using the 1/N expansion of
the 2PI effective action (2PI-1/N expansion) to next-to-leading order, which
leads to an integral equation summing ladder and bubble diagrams. We also
consider the weakly coupled theory for arbitrary N, using the three-loop
expansion of the 2PI effective action. In the limit of weak coupling and
vanishing mass, we find an approximate analytical solution of the integral
equation. For general coupling and mass, the integral equation is solved
numerically using a variational approach. The shear viscosity turns out to be
close to the result obtained in the weak-coupling analysis.Comment: 37 pages, few typos corrected; to appear in JHE
