Objective: This study evaluated the impact of clinical pharmacist-led intervention in health knowledge and medication adherence of Asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. Methods: Questionnaires were designed to assess Health knowledge for Asthma and COPD separately. Medication adherence was measured by using the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale-8. Pre-counseling patient responses were recorded. Patient counseling was given regarding the disease condition, medications, and medication use at baseline visit. Patient responses were re-measured upon follow-up visit. The data extracted were tabulated, statistically analyzed and the results were obtained. Results: A total of 141 patients completed the study. Before counseling, the mean (±standard deviation) of knowledge and adherence levels were found to be 8.51±3.36 and 5.01±2.11, respectively. After counseling, they increased up to 12.72±2.16 for knowledge (p<0.0001) and 6.60±1.35 (p<0.0001) for medication adherence. The majority of subjects had about 11–30% increase in knowledge as well as medication adherence. Male patients were more adherent to their medication regime than females. Conclusion: The study demonstrates the positive impact of education and counseling provided by a clinical pharmacist in achieving better therapeutic outcomes – through improvement in medication adherence and health knowledge. In conclusion, continuous education programs and patient counseling should be conducted for chronic diseases to reiterate the importance of medication adherence and, in turn, prevent recurrences, arrest disease progression, minimize hospitalization, and ultimately improve quality of life

The radio-activity produced during the irradiation of 63,65Cu, 59Co, 93Nb and 121,123Sb targets with α-particles have been measured using activation technique. he yields of radioactive isotopic products 66,67,68 Ga, 61 Cu, 96g,mTc and 123,124,126I have been determined in the energy range ≈ 10-40 MeV using stacked foil Technique. Radioactive counting of samples was performed with a high-resolution gamma-spectrometer. As light ion beams produce an extremely narrow layer of activities in the surface of a material, these reactions may be useful for thin layer activation study

Background: The androgen receptor (AR) is a steroid-activated transcription factor that binds at specific DNA locations and plays a key role in the etiology of prostate cancer. While numerous studies have identified a clear connection between AR binding and expression of target genes for a limited number of loci, high-throughput elucidation of these sites allows for a deeper understanding of the complexities of this process. Methodology/Principal Findings: We have mapped 189 AR occupied regions (ARORs) and 1,388 histone H3 acetylation (AcH3) loci to a 3 % continuous stretch of human genomic DNA using chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) microarray analysis. Of 62 highly reproducible ARORs, 32 (52%) were also marked by AcH3. While the number of ARORs detected in prostate cancer cells exceeded the number of nearby DHT-responsive genes, the AcH3 mark defined a subclass of ARORs much more highly associated with such genes – 12 % of the genes flanking AcH3+ARORs were DHT-responsive, compared to only 1 % of genes flanking AcH32ARORs. Most ARORs contained enhancer activities as detected in luciferase reporte

Despite the absence of consensus on a theory of the transition from supercooled liquids to glasses, the experimental observations suggest that a detail-independent theory should exist.Comment: Commentary. 3 pages 2 figure

Diffuse Pan Bronchiolitis Presenting with Bronchiectasis: A Case Report

    Get PDF
Diffuse Pan Bronchiolitis (DPB) is a peculiar airway disease with its pathogenesis enrooted in a complex interplay of various genetic and environmental factors. Airway inflammation, chronic airflow limitation and suppuratives in pulmonary infections are the distinctive features of this entity. It poses a close differential to other frequently encountered pulmonary conditions like chronic bronchitis, emphysema, bronchiectasis and constrictive bronchiolitis. Deferment in diagnosis can culminate in irreversible airway remodeling and progressive respiratory failure. Hence a punctual recognition is vital. Macrolide group of drugs are prime modality of therapy and the response to therapy is benignant. We herein describe a case of DPB with development of sequelae owing to its delayed detection

386-390Attempts have been made to measure the activity in irradiated natural Ni material induced by α-particles in the energy range 10-40 MeV followed by stack foil activation technique. Activity induced has been determined through the cross-sections obtained from various reactions for 58Ni(α, p)61Cu, 58Ni(α,  pn)60Cu, 60Ni(α, p2n)61Cu, 60Ni(α, n)63Zn, 60Ni(α, 2n)62Zn,61Ni (α, 3n)62Zn and 61Ni(α, 2n)63Zn in α+natNi interaction at different beam energies has been found to vary from 10-26 microns
