    Get PDF
Glass is a kind of amorphous materials that exhibits a transition from rigid to viscous state and finally liquid state when heated. For daily usage, it is desirable to have different forms and differenttransparencies for different purposes. Most widely used one is the one with high transparency and flat surface. One of the detrimental effects that glass is undergone during the storage or usage periods is corrosion. In this work, a way for detecting corrosion on the glass surface by image processing methodis presented

This work aims to obtain a signal processing method to neutralize the mechanical vibration sound from the electrolarynx which is used as a supporting device for speech restoration of people who have gone under resection operation over their larynxs due to various reasons. In this work production of voice and the organs that take action are reviewed and then the problem arises after the ressection of the larynx and medical approaches to voice regeneration after surgery are overviewed. After the problem with electrolarynx, noninvasive sound regeneration method, and its reflection on the sound signal are outlined, the approaches that can be taken are summarised and to asses their impact opinion score is collected. In the data collection step, instead of laryngectomees, healthy individuals are preferred. The data obtained from healthy subjects are processed and evaluation of the methods are accomplished by the individuals that are not involved in data gathering step. At the end of the work, the best method is given and probable approaches to achieve higher performance are mentioned

22nd IEEE Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference (SIU) -- APR 23-25, 2014 -- Karadeniz Teknik Univ, Trabzon, TURKEYThis work aims to obtain a signal processing method to neutralize the mechanical vibration sound from the electrolarynx which is used as a supporting device for speech restoration of people who have gone under resection operation over their larynxs due to various reasons. After the main problem of electrolarynx which is a noninvasive solution to the speech production problem arised due to the resection of the larynx and it's effect on the speech signal were introduced, approaches to minimize this problem in a single input system and their performances are compared.IEEE, Karadeniz Tech Univ, Dept Comp Engn & Elect & Elect Eng

Functional Parcellation of Memory Related Brain Networks by Spectral Clustering of EEG Data

35th International Conference on Telecommunications and Signal Processing (TSP) -- JUL 03-04, 2012 -- Prague, CZECH REPUBLICIn this study, we investigate the clustering information of alpha band brain networks during memory load task. For this purpose, short time memory task which includes memory load varieties is implemented to the subjects. To calculate mutual information, time and frequency information is both taken into consideration due to Cohen class time-frequency distribution (TFD) formulation. Cohen class based mutual information helps us to integrate adjacency matrices based on the similarity information of individual electrode pairs. In addition, essential frequency bins are selected from the TFD with respect to the default alpha frequency (8 - 12Hz) intervals. Moreover, graph based spectral clustering algorithm is used to parcellate memory related circuits on the brain. From the calculated adjacency matrices, the N-cut algorithm is used for node wise clustering between nodes. After node wise clustering information, subject wise clustering is applied with respect to the similarities of node information over all subjects.Brno Univ Technol, Dept Telecommun, Budapest Univ Technol & Econom, Dept Telecommun & Media Informat, Karadeniz Tech Univ, Dept Elect & Elect Engn, W Pomeranian Univ Technol, Fac Elect Engn, VSB - Tech Univ Ostrava, Dept Telecommun, Slovak Univ Technol, Inst Telecommun, Univ Ljubljana, Lab Telecommun, Czech Tech Univ Prague, Dept Telecommun Engn, ProfiNET Test s r o, NextiraOne Czech s r o, IEEE, Czechoslovakia Sect, Investment & Business Dev Agcy Czech Republ (CzechInvest), IEEEScientific and Technological Research Council of TurkeyTurkiye Bilimsel ve Teknolojik Arastirma Kurumu (TUBITAK) [109E202]This study is supported by Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUB ?ITAK) under project number 109E202

Role of Alpha Oscillations During Short Time Memory Task Investigated by Graph Based Partitioning

In this study, we investigate the clustering pattern of alpha band (8 Hz - 12 Hz) electroencephalogram (EEG) oscillations obtained from healthy individuals during a short time memory task with 3 different memory loads. The retention period during which subjects were asked to memorize a pattern in a square matrix is analyzed with a graph theoretical approach. The functional coupling among EEG electrodes are quantified via mutual information in the time-frequency plane. A spectral clustering algorithm followed by bootstrapping is used to parcellate memory related circuits and for identifying significant clusters in the brain. The main outcome of the study is that the size of the significant clusters formed by alpha oscillations decreases as the memory load increases. This finding corroborates the active inhibition hypothesis about alpha oscillations.Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK)Turkiye Bilimsel ve Teknolojik Arastirma Kurumu (TUBITAK) [109E202]This study is supported by Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) under project number 109E202
