    Get PDF
Farmers have been modifying their practices in order to deal with climate change and variability. Even though such practices have been documented in other parts of Africa, information on Ghana and particularly northern Ghana is scanty. This study examines the adaptation strategies of smallholder farmers to climate change and variability in northern Ghana. The paper is based on primary data collected through a household survey, community focus group discussions and key informant interviews in order to identify the adaptation responses of smallholder farmers in northern Ghana to climate change and variability. Several indigenous climate-related practices and technologies categorised into four strategies were identified. In addition, climate related technologies introduced by research, also categorised into four strategies, and were identified as being used by smallholder farmers in northern Ghana. The empirical results of the Friedman test indicates that timing of the onset of the rainy season which informed planting, and soil and plant health related strategies are the most important climate related strategies used by smallholder farmers in securing yield. The policy implication is that practical, timely and reliable information on the onset of the rainy season as well as region specific soil and plant health technologies should be generated and made available to smallholder farmers in northern Ghana to minimise the adverse impacts of climate change

The study examined the influence of gender and location (rural or urban) of school on classroom management strategies adopted by public Junior High School teachers in the Asante Akim North District, as not too many studies in this area have been considered. Those that ventured this area focused on other groups of teachers such as pre-service teachers. Specifically, descriptive survey design was used to provide a meaningful picture of events and explained teachers’ opinions and behaviours on the basis of the data gathered. The sample included 46 male and 50 female teachers teaching the core subjects who were purposively selected from public Junior High Schools. The Behavioural and Instructional Management Scale (BIMS) was used to collect data from the respondents. Data collected were analysed using descriptive and inferential (Independent Samples t-test) statistics. Results indicated that generally male and female teachers in the Asante Akim North District adopted the same classroom management strategies to manage their classes. In the same vain teachers adopted the same classroom management strategies irrespective of their location (Rural or Urban) of school. Based on these findings, it was recommended that teacher training institutions should emphasise the teaching of classroom management strategies to the student teachers so as to sharpen their practice on the field. Again, the Asante Akim North District Directorate of education should organise workshops, in-service training and seminars on regular basis for teachers to upgrade their skills and knowledge in managing the classrooms. This will help them to continually show equal level of professionalism in managing their classrooms irrespective of their location and gender.  Article visualizations

The study examined Contemporary strategies in marketing e-resources amongst selected Technical Universities (TUs) in Ghana. 62 respondents were respectively drawn from all three selected Technical Universities ie Kumasi Technical University, Tamale Technical University, and Takoradi Technical University. Given that the population from the three TUs library staff was small, no sampling had to be done. The investigator sent out 62 questionnaires to the three TUs and received 39 responses representing 63 %. A descriptive survey design was employed to acquire data from the selected Technical University (TUs) libraries. Analysis of the data gathered was carried out using bar charts, pie charts, Line graphs, and percentages. Findings discovered that the state of use of e-resources amongst selected TUs was not encouraging. This is a result that the selected TUs were not using contemporary strategies such as print, online advertisement, electronic methods, and merchandise giveaways in marketing e-resources in their various libraries. Therefore, it is required of the various TUs to put measures to employ these contemporary approaches in marketing e-resources in their various libraries
