Resistance to change is one of the challenges during lean implementation in service.Thus, change management is needed by addressing the resistance, provide support, and develop the required knowledge to implement change.This paper reviews lean implementation in public service and the importance of change management in transition to lean. Hopefully, this study could provide a better understanding on lean service and guidance on applying the change management in lean transition

    Many organizations in all industries and sectors around the world have been trying to adopt lean principles to create more values for customers and optimizing the resources.Lean is an improvement initiative that has attracted service sector to apply its unique principle in their operation. Despite successful story of lean implementation reported based on the benefit gained after the implementation, service sector are also unable to sustain their implementation and encounter many problems and challenge such as misunderstanding of real concept and purpose of lean implementation since the beginning of the implementation.Prior researcher has highlighted the important of change agent to begin lean implementation.This paper has reviewed the implementation of lean in service sector and discusses the role of change agent in lean implementation.Change agent should assist in the translation of lean by explaining the concept and providing enough information, communicate the benefit of lean at all level, and improves senior management commitment.Hopefully, the findings from this research could provide the managers in service sector with a better understanding of the lean transition and a clear guidance to minimize the resistance and overcome the challenges in lean implementation

    Success factors of lean management implementation in public service organization

    Lean management is a management approach adapted from the lean manufacturing concept which focuses on waste elimination and continuous improvement. While the manufacturing sector has widely implemented lean in their operation, the application of lean in the service sector is still new. Public service organizations chose to apply lean management in order to cope with the need to improve performance while reducing costs. However, most transformational efforts failed because of public organizations did not focus on the right element.The objective of this study is to investigate the success factor of lean implementation in public service organizations. The interview was conducted at five public organizations that have receiverecognition of excellence practices in lean management by Malaysia Productivity Corporation. The data were analyzed using Atlas.ti software.From the analysis, seven success factors have been identified which are; management commitment, communication, employee involvement, culture, knowledge, teamwork and organization readiness. The factors mentioned should be incorporated in the change program and should be well managed by the management of public service organizations to gain success and ensure sustainability of lean management implementation

    Technology is an essential component in all types of organisations and most organisations have reasons to implement new technology.The most fundamental justification for new technology implementation is that the technology must be able to contribute to strong competitive advantages and also increase or create long-term profit.In most small and medium enterprises (SMEs), there are barriers or obstacles in implementing these technologies.This paper the qualitative study aimed in investigating barriers faced by the Malaysian herbal industry in implementing technologies in their factory.Most of the local herbal manufacturing firms are categorised as SMEs which are usually considered to be lagged behind larger companies in technology usage. As this was an exploratory research, a case study method is used as it gave us the in dept exploration in order to develop and understand the importance of the identified variables our qualitative results suggest that the main constraints in implementing technologies are lack of technical specialist and capital and also internal managerial proble
