Percepción de la carrera de Bibliotecología por los estudiantes de cuarto medio de la Región Metropolitana de Chile.

This article analyzes the librarianship professional career through the perception of students in the last year of high school education in Chile, to know and establish the opinion and characteristics given by students to this career. For this, a survey was applied to 320 students from six high school educational institutions in Santiago de Chile. The indicators measured in this research through the data collection instrument refer to remuneration, employability, areas of knowledge, occupational field, activities performed by the professional, and others. The study revealed inaccuracies about the knowledge of the career along with a misconception of the librarian’s work, which is already part of the worldview of the profession. In addition, it is evident that the participants know the traditional work of the librarian, oriented to books, but are unaware of other areas of the profession development

In addition, it is evident that the participants know the traditional work of the librarian, oriented to books, but are unaware of other areas of the profession development.En este artículo se analiza la carrera de bibliotecología a través de la percepción que poseen los estudiantes del último año de educación secundaria en Chile, con el fin de conocer y establecer la opinión y características otorgadas por los estudiantes a la carrera de bibliotecología. Para esto se aplicó una encuesta a 320 estudiantes de seis establecimientos educacionales de la ciudad de Santiago de Chile. Los indicadores medidos en esta investigación a través del instrumento de recolección de datos refieren a remuneración, empleabilidad, áreas de conocimientos, campo ocupacional, actividades desempeñadas por el profesional, entre otros. El estudio reveló imprecisiones sobre el conocimiento de la carrera junto con una idea errada del quehacer del bibliotecólogo, que ya es parte del imaginario de la profesión. Además se evidencia que los encuestados conocen el quehacer tradicional del bibliotecario, orientado al libro, pero desconocen otras áreas de desarrollo de la profesión
