Experimental orf in susceptible and previously infected sheep
The clinical responses of susceptible and previously infected sheep to orf infection were similar except in the speed of development. In both, the lesions progressed through the classical pox stages of papule, vesicle, pustule and scab. The duration of each stage was significantly shorter in previously infected sheep than in susceptible sheep. A few of the previously infected sheep (5.3 per cent) were refractory to reinfection. The histological changes associated with orf infection in susceptible and previously infected sheep were assessed. In both, there was a thickening of the epidermis at 30 hours post -scarification. Ballooning degeneration followed in the cells of the upper layers of the epidermis and progressed to form vesicles in four to six days in susceptible sheep and three to four days in previously infected sheep. Inclusion bodies were not observed. Resolution, as manifested by restitution of the normal histological structures, occurred in three to five weeks in susceptible sheep and in less than two weeks in previously infected sheep.Examination by electron microscopy of ultrathin sections of biopsy samples collected at intervals from susceptible and previously infected sheep confirmed the clinical observations and the observed histologi- cal changes revealing evidence of virus multiplication in previously infected sheep as well as in susceptible sheep. In susceptible sheep, the first evidence of virus multiplication was at 30 hours post- scarification whereas in previously infected sheep it was at three days. Virus persisted in skin tissue for 17 days in susceptible sheep and for three to seven days in previously infected sheep. Granular masses believed to be accumulations of new virus constituents were observed in the cytoplasms of the cells of the upper- most layers of the epidermis. They were diffusely distributed in the cytoplasms and were never observed in the nuclei. Immature and complete virus particles appeared in the cytoplasms and cytoplasmic vacuoles of the cells of the uppermost layers of the epidermis and in extracellular spaces. In one section only a few virus particles were observed over the nucleus.Electron microscopy did not permit differentiation between primary and secondary reactions when samples were collected within six days of scarification.Infectious virus was recovered from lesions in susceptible and previously infected sheep. Virus applied to scarified skin of both susceptible and previously infected sheep disappeared completely within 24 hours and samples collected at this time were not
infective. Virus reappeared within 30 hours post - scarification in susceptible sheep and at two days in previously infected sheep. The increase in new virus was exponential, the highest titres of infectivity being detected in susceptible and previously infected sheep at four and five days post -scarification respec- tively. The high titres were maintained for more than two weeks in susceptible sheep but in previously infected sheep the plateau phase was short, namely, three days. Disappearance of virus from samples taken from previously infected sheep was very abrupt. The decline phase in susceptible sheep was spread over three weeks.Virus behaviour in cell cultures was also studied. Particles in different stages of development were seen in the cytoplasms of infected cells and were similar to those observed in skin sections. The rate of virus multiplication in cell cultures was similar to the rate of multiplication in susceptible and previously infected sheep but it occurred earlier
FUTURE MEANING AFTER THE TEMPORAL wnn
[En] This paper highlights the narrative iw.f (Hr) sDm when introduced by the temporal clause of wnn. The construction iw.f (Hr) sDm resembles the narrative iw.f Hr sDm (negative iw.f Hr tm-sDm). It refers, in this case, to the future and has nothing to do with narration. The temporal wnn is translated by a conditional system (if) and it consists of two elements; protasis (wnn+ First Present) and an apodosis (the narrative iw.f (Hr) sDm). The study discusses the morphology of the temporal clause introduced by wnn and xr wnn. It sometimes comes after the temporal xr wnn future and not always past as Baer’s opinion. It also discusses the opinion of the scholars related to the construction iw.f (Hr ) sDm
The impact of qualitative characteristics of accounting information on the decision-making process in Oman’s food industry
The main objective of this study is to demonstrate the effects of accounting information on the decisionmaking process in selected companies in the Omani food industry. The study sample consists of 100 top managers from the selected companies. A descriptive and analytical approach has been adopted to achieve the objective of the study. A structured questionnaire was used to collect primary data. An Empirical research design has been used with the aid of a statistical package for social sciences SPSS version 24). The results of the analysis of ANOVA showed that there is a positive and significant effect of reliability and comparability on decision-making. At the same time, there was no significant relationship between relevance and decision-making. The study underscores the importance of accounting information predictors in the decision-making process
Impact of New Large Aircraft on Airport Flexible Pavements
The objective of the study is to evaluate the effects of New Large Aircraft (NLA) on airport flexible pavement in terms of its expected impact on pavement life. The study is conducted using Hurghada Airport air fleet composition at four hypothetical annual departure levels, four standard subgrade strength categories, and introducing NLA at five different percentages. On the basis of the results of this research, it is concluded that, where an airport has a subgrade with CBR values higher than 6%, airport authority may permit the operation of A380 up to an additional 3% of the existing annual departures without losing more than 10 to 30 percent of pavement life. For airports with CBR values less than 6%, a significant reduction in pavement life as high as 40 to 90% should be anticipated in case of introducing the A380 at 3 percent share in the traffic mix or more. In case of subgrade strength CBR less than 6%, there is a high rate of pavement life reduction due to introduction of A380 up to 2% share in the traffic mix. However, there is a low rate of pavement life reduction due to introduction of A380 from 2% and up to 5% share in the traffic mix. Keywords: Airports, New Large Aircraft, NLA, Flexible pavements, A38
Vermeer's skopos theory and its application to the Arabic translation of Miller's Death of a Salesman
The present study aimed at shedding some light on Vermeer's (1989) Skopos theory in translation as suggested by Vermeer along with the application of this theory to an English literary text taken from Miller's Death of A Salesman (1947) and its Arabic translation done by a Syrian Arab translator called Omar Jabak. Besides, the article will try to examine the weaknesses of Skopos theory in terms of its applicability to literary texts in particular. The researchers adopted the analytical descriptive approach in this small-scale qualitative study to prove the inapplicability of the Skopos theory principles to the above-mentioned English play and its Arabic translation. The research data and findings revealed that Vermeer's Skopos theory had somehow little applicability to translated literary works because literature and its translation, in general, and drama, in particular, have meaningful or 'skopos' in people's social, economic and political lives
Syntactic translation strategies for retaining parallelism in the Arabic translation of Moby Dick
The present study examines strategies for translating parallelism and factors in retaining parallelism in the Arabic translation of the novel of “Moby Dick”. Analysis is conducted on two sets of data taken from the English novel “Moby Dick” written by Melville in 1851 and its Arabic translation ‘Mūbī Dīk’ by ʻAbbās (1980). This qualitative research is guided by Chesterman’s (1997) syntactic strategy model, and contrastive analysis (CA) is also performed. The contrastive analysis is carried out using a coding procedure based on themes and taxonomies in the acquired data constructed by the researchers. The result shows that, based on Chesterman’s (1997) model, the translator of the above-mentioned novel employed three strategies, namely, literal translation, clause structure change and transposition to maintain parallelism in the Arabic translation of the English novel
Analysis of the Imperial Rent of Reserve Currency: A Manifestation of Existence and a Method of Quantity Estimation
This article provides an analysis of the economic cost incurred by the world through the use of the fiat international reserve currency since the end of the 1971 gold standard system. The article uses the Quantity Theory of Money to provide an empirical manifestation of how reserve currency yields income to its issuing country through the provision of an inflation buffer, which is equivalent to what the article frames as an imperial rent of reserve currency. The article then provides a method to estimate the cumulative quantity of this rent by using data on the broad money supply, nominal GDP, and world total official foreign exchange holdings of the currency of the country in question. The article estimates that the quantity of the imperial rent of reserve currency that accrued to the four major reserve currency-issuing states (US, Euro area, UK, Japan) from the end of the gold standard until the end of 2021, which was accumulated through the official channel only, is of a value equivalent to 11.1 trillion USD, 71 % of this amount went to the US singly
