Handling a Commensurate, Incommensurate, and Singular Fractional-Order Linear Time-Invariant System

    No full text
From the perspective of the importance of the fractional-order linear time-invariant (FoLTI) system in plenty of applied science fields, such as control theory, signal processing, and communications, this work aims to provide certain generic solutions for commensurate and incommensurate cases of these systems in light of the Adomian decomposition method. Accordingly, we also generate another general solution of the singular FoLTI system with the use of the same methodology. Several more numerical examples are given to illustrate the core points of the perturbations of the considered singular FoLTI systems that can ultimately generate a variety of corresponding solutions

Most common over-the-counter medications and effects on patients

    Get PDF
OBJECTIVE: The self-medicating practice of using over-the-counter (OTC) medications are more common than prescription drug use worldwide. OTC drugs are primarily used to treat conditions that do not require direct medical attention or supervision, and OTC drugs must be demonstrated to be reasonably safe and well-tolerated. The pharmacy profession describes their role in dispensing over-the-counter (OTC) products as “selecting the best medication according to reported symptoms”. This study aimed to evaluate the use of most common over-the-counter (OTC) medications and their effect on patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional survey-based study was conducted on 442 participants who used OTC drugs from June to November 2021. RESULTS: The most common OTC drugs used by patients involved in the study were paracetamol (13.35%), followed by ibuprofen (2.04%). Gender of patients was significantly related to (duration, frequency, suggestion, and misuse) of OTC use and patient counseling by the pharmacist (p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: OTC medications can easily be obtained at pharmacies for the purpose of self-treatment. The most common OTC drugs used by the studied patients were paracetamol, followed by ibuprofen. It is suggested that an awareness program among community people be conducted at the community level regarding over-the-counter (OTC) drugs

Modified Three-Point Fractional Formulas with Richardson Extrapolation

    No full text
In this paper, we introduce new three-point fractional formulas which represent three generalizations for the well-known classical three-point formulas; central, forward and backward formulas. This has enabled us to study the function’s behavior according to different fractional-order values of α numerically. Accordingly, we then introduce a new methodology for Richardson extrapolation depending on the fractional central formula in order to obtain a high accuracy for the gained approximations. We compare the efficiency of the proposed methods by using tables and figures to show their reliability

The purpose of the study is to examine whether Herzberg's two-factor theory is still relevant in practice today in the teaching profession. The study is qualitative with a deductive approach based on Herzberg's two-factor theory. A total of 10 semi-structured interviews were conducted with high school and university teachers, which were then analyzed thematically. The result showed that Herzberg's theory is still applicable and valid in the profession of teaching. The results, on the other hand, show that there are differences in which factors that are the most important for the teachers in relation to what Herzberg claimed. The most important factors for the teachers' work motivation are having their own responsibility over their time, recognition and the psychosocial work environment. Suggestions for further research are to secure the ranking of the factors that are most important for the work motivation within the teaching profession. Also evaluate if there are factors from Herzberg's two-factor theory that are ranked differently in other professions.

Bronchodilator reversibility testing in morbidly obese non-smokers: fluticasone/salmeterol efficacy versus salbutamol bronchodilator

Abstract A positive response in reversibility testing is widely used to diagnose patients with airway limitations. However, despite its simple procedure, it doesn’t accurately reflect the exact airway irreversibility. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of a bronchodilation reversibility test using salbutamol and fluticasone/salmeterol combination in obese non-smoker subjects. The study included patients without a history of obstructive lung disease or bronchodilators. A sub-classification of patients based on body mass index (BMI) was carried out into normal ( 0.05). The magnitude of bronchodilation, as identified by spirometry, following fluticasone/salmeterol was higher in all participants, with a significant increase in obese subjects with a p-value of 0.013, 0.002, and 0.035 for FEV1, FEV1% predicted, and FEV1/FVC, respectively. Fluticasone/salmeterol combination increases FEV1, FEV1% of predicted, and FEV1/FVC ratio than the conventional test using salbutamol inhaler, and it can be a potential candidate for assessment of airway obstruction using reversibility test, especially among the obese population

Assessment of Bioactive Phytochemicals and Utilization of <i>Rosa canina</i> Fruit Extract as a Novel Natural Antioxidant for Mayonnaise

The oxidation of food emulsions causes rancidity, which reduces their shelf life. To prevent rancidity, synthetic antioxidants are widely used in the food industry. However, due to their potential health risks, researchers are exploring natural alternatives. This study aimed to investigate whether Rosa canina fruit extract (RCFE) could be used as a natural antioxidant to extend the shelf life of mayonnaise. Mayonnaise containing varying concentrations of RCFE [0.125% (T1), 0.25% (T2), 0.50% (T3), 0.75% (T4)] was compared to a mayonnaise control sample (C1) and a mayonnaise sample containing 0.02% BHT (C2) for 60 days of storage at 4 °C. RCFE was found to have high levels of total phenols content (52.06 ± 1.14 mg GAE g−1), total flavonoids content (26.31 ± 1.03 mg QE g−1), and free radical scavenging activity. The GC–MS analysis of RCFE revealed 39 different peaks, whereas the HPLC analysis showed the presence of 13 polyphenolic compounds in RCFE. The pH values of T2, T3, and T4 mayonnaise samples substantially declined as storage progressed; however, the reduction was less than that of C1 and C2. After 60 days, mayonnaise samples T2, T3, and T4 had greatly reduced peroxide and free fatty acid levels compared to C1 and C2. The mayonnaise enriched with RCFE (T3 and T4) had the most potent antioxidative ability and the lowest value of lipid hydroperoxides (peroxide value, POV) and the lowest value of thiobarbituric-acid-reactive substances (TBARS). The sensory evaluation revealed that the T3 sample exhibited the highest overall acceptability. In conclusion, this study recommends that RCFE could be used as a natural preservative to enhance the shelf life of functional foods
