Globalization and youth: Philosophical analysis of challenges and ways to overcome them

    No full text
Philosophical analysis of the issues concerning acceleration of the modern civilization development, high dynamics of international life, strengthening of interrelation and interdependence of peoples and states, is especially relevant for professionals studying contemporary society in general, and youth in particular. The dual purpose of the research study is to focus on the definition of the concept of ‘globalization’, because there is no well-established precise definition in scientific practice, and both Western European and Russian researchers offer their own interpretations for this concept; and to study the ambiguity of the social effects of globalization, which has generated both supporters and fierce opponents of this phenomenon. The study keynote is provided through the social-and-philosophical analysis of the impact of globalization, especially on young people, as well as highlighting the current challenges facing young people today and developing new value orientations. The author proceeds from the data obtained in the sociological research conducting the scientific literature review and students’ group and in-depth interviews in Russian universities. The analytical work made it possible to propose some steps in overcoming the challenges of globalization, and the author comes to a conclusion about the need to undertake a further large-scale study of the globalization process. The materials of the paper may be useful to researchers, as well as teachers and professionals involved in the education of young people. © 2018, Slovenska Vzdelavacia Obstaravacia. No full text
Over the past decade virtual reality technologies have been actively introduced into all spheres of life, affecting, among other things, the education sector. The purpose of this study is to develop a concept introducing a virtual reality simulator into educators' training. The underlying principle of the study is to design a virtual reality environment that, firstly, facilitates the development of conflict resolution competence for the students of pedagogical faculties, and secondly, facilitates its performance evaluation. In this article, approaches to design such a virtual reality simulator are discussed. The purpose of the simulator is to develop conflict resolution competences that are indispensable to future teachers. Besides the current study presents a set of situational cases, that are possible to resolve in a virtual reality environment. The resolution of those cases will help future teachers to prevent conflicts as well as to determine their behaviour in pre-conflict and conflict situations. The components of conflict resolution competence that are possible to develop with the help of the designed virtual reality simulator have been defined. The conducted study has also identified approaches to evaluate the effectiveness of conflict resolution competence development

    No full text
The purpose of the article is to analyze effective social initiatives introduced in Russia, implementation of which suggests active engagement of citizens. The practical relevance of the philosophical analysis of ‘mass consciousness’ and its adaptation to the new principles of the society functioning is an indisputable fact for modern philosophers. The study of this sort of challenges is justified by the need to focus on social process management because, under the conditions of crisis, the breakdown of social basics, institutions, and habitual living conditions and norms, the impact of the awareness of the citizens on their activity and participation in national matters dramatically increases. The philosophical issue has been studied through considering and analyzing the basic features of the Russian mindset, which has proved to be a constant element of the mass consciousness in this country. At the present stage, there is a dissonance between the social aspiration of the Russian power elite and the steady and constant Russian mass consciousness, which stems from the intense mass media impact on the basic element of social consciousness and the unwillingness of the ordinary citizens to respond the proposed ideas and considering them very distant and impossible to convert into a reality. The background for the study is connected with the data of sociological research conducted through reviewing scientific literature content, group and in-depth interviews of the Russians belonging to different age groups with different levels of education and income, and different regions. Reflection on the data collected made it possible to present a comprehensive philosophical analysis of the concepts like ‘mass consciousness’, ‘tolerance’, consider the mechanisms of influence and determinants for mass consciousness transformation of the Russians. The materials presented in the paper are of practical significance and can be useful in developing and implementing methods and new technologies to create adaption moods and attitudes in modern social ambiance, manage social processes at various levels, implement mass media programs and information-and-communication PR techniques, develop tolerant ideas, prevent and solve national and social conflicts, organize and conduct social and political events. © 2018, Slovenska Vzdelavacia Obstaravacia. No full text
The relevance of the work is determined by the need for a theoretical understanding of the problem of cultural interaction in the modern world. The process of globalization, which is underway, leads to the expansion of interrelationships and interdependencies of different peoples, including the problem of learning the specifics of cultures in the context of building an efficient local and global dialog based on the soft power policy. The purpose of the article is to analyze the crisis of the soft power policy in the spread of the Russian language as the most important tool of ethnic self-preservation. The methodological basis of the study consists of theoretical methods: the synthesis method is applied to study the problematic area of interaction between language and culture, in particular when considering the soft power policy. The combination of descriptive, comparative, and historical methods, as well as methods of classification and analytical reading, contributed to the formation of the author’s understanding of the problem. The article presents the author’s study of the soft power policy in the Russian education system. It discusses the signs of a crisis in the implementation of the soft power policy that has manifested themselves, on the one hand, through the changes of the main state documents regulating the education process, and on the other hand, the real results of the Russian language study are revealed. Upon analysis, the authors have identified and formulated a number of contradictions in the practice of the Russian language teaching in terms of the soft power policy application and also have come to the conclusion that, to overcome the crisis in the Russian language teaching, some viable options should be taken into account such as strong intellectual potential, experience and traditions of the national school. © 2019, Slovenska Vzdelavacia Obstaravacia.
