Rapid turnover of the CD3ζ chain independent of the TCR-CD3 complex in normal T cells

AbstractThe function of CD3ζ in the assembly and transport of the T cell receptor (TCR)-CD3 complex was analyzed in normal T cells. The ζ chain, but not other chains in the surface TCR complex, rapidly exchanged with newly synthesized ζ. Because ζ was expressed independently from the complex, the TCR complex may be transported to the surface along the ζ turnover pathway by association with ζ. These data suggest the dynamic nature of ζ metabolism and provide the evidence that a single component in a multisubunit receptor exhibits independent metabolism from the rest of the complex

LOWER LIMB KINETIC CHARACTERISTICS OF THE SIDE-HOP TEST IN HEALTHY INDIVIDUALS

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the kinetics of lower limb joints and the side-hop test (SHT) time in healthy individuals and to clarify the factors that may influence performance on the SHT. Twenty male athletes performed the SHT. The SHT time and lower limb joint torque (hip, knee, and ankle) were calculated to explore the relationship between the two variables. The relationship between the SHT time and joint torque was found specifically at the medial and lateral contact phases of the SHT. These results suggest that hip joint function may be important in the medial contact phase. In the knee joint, it was suggested that the load at the frontal plane of the knee joint increases with shorter SHT time. We have provided these results for researchers/clinicians who consider the performance characteristics related to shorter times in the SHT

Dynamic nuclear polarization and Knight shift measurements in a breakdown regime of integer quantum Hall effect

Nuclear spins are polarized electrically in a breakdown regime of an odd-integer quantum Hall effect (QHE). Electron excitation to the upper Landau subband with the opposite spin polarity flips nuclear spins through the hyperfine interaction. The polarized nuclear spins reduce the spin-splitting energy and accelerate the QHE breakdown. The Knight shift of the nuclear spins is also measured by tuning electron density during the irradiation of radio-frequency magnetic fields.Comment: 3 pages, 2 figures, EP2DS-1

A Retrospective Analysis of Transfusion Management for Obstetric Hemorrhage in a Japanese Obstetric Center

Background. Since cryoprecipitate, fibrinogen concentrate, or recombinant activated factor VII is not approved by public medical insurance in Japan, we retrospectively assessed blood product usage in patients with obstetric hemorrhage at our tertiary obstetric center. Material and Methods. 220 patients with obstetric hemorrhagic disorders who underwent blood product transfusion in our institution during a 5-year period were reviewed for the types and volumes of blood products transfused. Results. There was a significant positive correlation (P< 0.001) between the volume of RCC (red blood cell concentrate) transfused and that of FFP (fresh frozen plasma), irrespective of underlying obstetric disorders. The median of FFP to RCC ratio in each patient was 1.3–1.4, when 6 or more units of RCC were transfused. Conclusions. In transfusion for massive obstetric hemorrhage in terms of appropriate supplementation of coagulation factors, the transfusion of RCC : FFP = 1 : 1.3–1.4 may be desirable
