A Novel Supplier-Managed Inventory Order Assignment Platform Enabled by Blockchain Technology

    Get PDF
Supplier Managed Inventory (SMI) can be considered an enabler for supply chain coordination in which the supplier takes over the customer's inventory to optimize the supply chain. However, the successful implementation of SMI is centered on the high level of trust, accurate data transfer, and efficient interaction between parties. This requires the sharing of information through supply chain stakeholders which face resistance and challenges due to the fear that this information will be revealed to its competitors and transparency of data. This paper has investigated the application of Blockchain technology and its potential for successful SMI implementation. The paper has proposed a Blockchain framework for the coordination of suppliers and customers. The framework includes a mathematical model for multiple supplier-customer order fulfillment which is embedded in the blockchain framework. The paper has demonstrated case studies to evaluate the performance of the proposed model with literature discussing the details of its blockchain framework

The Requirements of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) frameworks for integration and synergic collaboration with Omnichannel strategy

    No full text
The Importance of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) is inevitable in fulfilling the collaboration and integration of different disciplines engaged in product development processes. However, PLM has faced with challenges in the context of Industry 4.0; especially in alignment with the Omnichannel strategy. The integration of the processes related to product promotion and digital marketing is recognized as one of those dominant challenges. There is an essential requirement for improving the interaction of PLM disciplines and Omnichannel processes. This chapter is investigating the challenges and restrictions raised by the Omnichannel strategy for PLM and the capabilities of the Omnichannel strategy to increase the effectiveness of PLM frameworks. Considering the Omnichannel strategy capabilities which are highly active in sales and promotions, the characteristics of bidirectional relation with PLM disciplines have been focused. For creating this bidirectional and synergic relation among Omnichannel strategy and PLM disciplines, the following perspectives are essential. Firstly, the configuration of Omnichannel strategy as an active agent among PLM disciplines. Secondly, the Omnichannel strategy’s capabilities to solve challenges and problems in PLM. Moreover, the consequences of decisions and interactions when integrating Omnichannel strategy in the PLM framework will be worthy to be analyzed

Drone based delivery system: Restrictions and limitations

    No full text
Purpose: Considering the idea of drone application in last mile delivery, this paper has examined literature studies about the restrictions and pitfalls which the organizations will face with for using drones in the last mile delivery. Moreover, the recent drone tests for commercial purposes in last mile delivery industry and challenges in these practices are investigated. Methodology: A survey-based approach has been applied to both the potential customers of the drone delivery service and also literature review for discovery of latest practices for drone enabled delivery projects has been targeted to identify the limitations and restrictions. Findings: The study demonstrates the problems that arise when the delivery drone crushes while in the air and the approach of self-exploding drones does not seem to make positive effect on this problem. Also, issues like special area for landing, noise of drone activities, safety and security of citizens in urban area are found to be main concerns. Originality: Very few research studies have been conducted in evaluation of using drones for last mile delivery operations focusing on current limitations and forthrightly downsides of drones of current state of the art. Therefore, this paper has tried to elaborate the limitations and restrictions from two perspectives of potential customers and technology developers

Sustainable public transportation using Markov Chains: Case study Hamburg public transportation

    No full text
Purpose: Intelligent public transportation systems have been largely focused on improving the planning, and monitoring the transportation flows during recent years. Advancements in public transportation systems increase service levels and encourage more usage of public transportation. The forecast of buses' arrival time to stations and having a dynamic system to anticipate the real-time possible events for users, significantly increase passenger satisfaction. This paper has studied the literature considering dynamic public transportation systems and also matters of environmental emissions. Methodology: The paper has developed a method to predict bus arrivals at stations by considering the buses' operation parameters and variables with stochastic characteristics by applying Markov Chains. The paper also applied the assignment problem technique and multi-objective planning to enable a framework for public transportation resource assignment considering the perspectives mentioned earlier. Findings: The real data of Hamburg public transportation has been used to verify the capabilities of the platform. The findings show that the model validity of the platform and enabled effective strategic planning for public resource assignment. Originality: This paper has studied the related literature and discussed the considerable gap for proposing a dynamic public transportation system that brings satisfaction from the side of the users and also mutually minimizing environmental emissions
