    Nigerian College Students\' Attitudes about Love, Marriage and Sexual Relations: Implications for Family Counselors

    214 (116 females and 98 males) Nigerian college students enrolled in three Nigerian universities responded to a questionnaire designed to replicate a previous study of African- American college students' attitudes about love, marriage and sexual relations. The results showed that in agreement with previous studies, none of the variables of love and marriage were significant for gender. However, when controlling for educational level, the graduate students were more likely to answer “No” to the question “Would you marry someone for qualities other than love?” and reported being more influenced by the media in relationships. A significantly higher number of females more than males agreed on the value of a satisfying sexual relationship due to love but more males than females responded “No” to the statement “Love is important to satisfying sexual relationships”. The premarital and marriage counseling implications were discussed.     Activity Schedule And Anticipation Training As Counselling Strategies In Managing Mild-depression Among Nigerian Adolescents

    This study investigated the impact of Activity Schedule and AnticipationTraining as counselling strategies in managing mild depression among Nigerian adolescents. Six Senior Secondary Schools were randomly selected from three Education Districts in Lagos State. The total population of SS 2 students available for the study in the six schools was 2,982. To select the participants for the study, The Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS) was administered to assess the cognitive, affective, psychomotor, somatic and social interpersonal dimensions of depression in the students. The SDS has a test-retest reliability coefficient of 0.93, showing good stability. After the baseline assessment, the total sample for the study comprised 96 participants. The sample accommodated all the characteristics of participants in terms of age and gender from the senior secondary schools chosen for the study. The two counselling techniques (Activity Schedule AS and Anticipation Training AT) were effective in managing mild depression (lack of concentration, feelings of guilt and worthlessness, persistent sad and empty moods). There was no significant gender difference in the post-test scores of participants across the three experimental conditions.Key words: Mild depression, Activity Schedule Therapy and Anticipatio

    Effects of Cognitive Behaviour and Social Learning Therapies On Managing Adolescents' Aggressiveness Among Senior Secondary School Students In Lagos Metropolis.

    This study investigated the effects of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Social Learning Therapy on adolescents' aggressiveness among senior secondary students in Lagos Metropolis. It used the quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design. The participants were one hundred and fifty-four adolescents randomly selected from two Senior Secondary School 2 students of Education District Two in Lagos State of Nigeria. There were two experimental treatment groups and one control group. Data were collected using the Verbal Aggressiveness Scale. Two research hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The hypotheses were tested using the Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA).
