The PDFLattice2017 workshop: a summary report
The workshop on Parton Distributions and Lattice Calculations in the LHC era
(PDFLattice2017) was hosted at Balliol College, Oxford (UK), from 22
to 24 March 2017. The workshop brought together the lattice-QCD and
the global-fit physicists who devote their efforts to determine the parton
distribution functions (PDFs) of the proton. The goals were to make the two
communities more familiar between each other, review developments from both
sides, and set precision targets for lattice calculations so that they can
contribute, together with the forthcoming experimental input, to the next
generation of PDF determinations. This contribution summarises the relevant

The ring imaging Cherenkov detector for the BRAHMS experiment at RHIC
A ring imaging Cherenkov counter, to be read out by four 100-channel PMTs, is
a key element of the BRAHMS experiment. We report here the most recent results
obtained tested at the BNL AGS using several radiator gases, including the
heavy fluorocarbon C4F10. Ring radii were measured for different particles
(pions, muons, and electrons) for momenta ranging from 2 to 12 GeV/c employing
pure C4F10 as radiator.Comment: 3 pages 3 figure
Treatment of Heavy Quarks in Deeply Inelastic Scattering
We investigate a simplified version of the ACOT prescription for calculating
deeply inelastic scattering from Q^2 values near the squared mass M_H^2 of a
heavy quark to Q^2 much larger than M_H^2.Comment: 14 pages, 5 figure
The BRAHMS ring imaging Cherenkov detector
A Ring Imaging \v{C}erenkov detector built for the BRAHMS experiment at the Brookhaven RHIC is described. This detector has a high index of refraction gas radiator. \v{C}erenkov light is focused on a photo-multiplier based photon detector with a large spherical mirror. The combination of momentum and ring radius measurement provides particle identification from 2.5 GeV/c up to 35 GeV/c for pions and kaons and well above 40 GeV/c for protons during runs that had the radiator index of refraction set at

The Distribution of Constituent Charm Quarks in the Hadron
Using a statistical approach in the framework of non-covariant perturbation
theory the distributions for light and charmed quarks in the hadron have been
derived, taking into account the mass of the charmed quark. The parameters of
the model have been extracted from the comparison with NA3 data on
hadroproduction of J/psi particles. A reanalysis of the EMC data on charm
production in muon-nucleon scattering has been performed. It has been found in
comparison with the conventional source of charmed quarks from photon-gluon
fusion, that the EMC data indicate the presence of an additional contribution
from deep-inelastic scattering on charmed quarks at large x. The resulting
admixture of the Fock states, containing charmed quarks in the decomposition of
the proton wave function is of the order of 1%. The approach presented for the
excitation of the Fock states with charmed quarks can also be applied to states
with beauty quarks as well as to the hadronic component of the virtual photon

Higgs boson production with one bottom quark jet at hadron colliders
We present total rates and kinematic distributions for the associated
production of a single bottom quark and a Higgs boson at the Tevatron and the
LHC. We include next-to-leading order QCD corrections and compare the results
obtained in the four and five flavor number schemes for parton distribution

Light Gluino Constituents of Hadrons and a Global Analysis of Hadron Scattering Data
Light strongly interacting supersymmetric particles may be treated as
partonic constituents of nucleons in high energy scattering processes. We
construct parton distribution functions for protons in which a light gluino is
included along with standard model quark, antiquark, and gluon constituents. A
global analysis is performed of a large set of data from deep-inelastic lepton
scattering, massive lepton pair and vector boson production, and hadron jet
production at large values of transverse momentum. Constraints are obtained on
the allowed range of gluino mass as a function of the value of the strong
coupling strength alpha_s(M_Z) determined at the scale of the Z boson mass. We
find that gluino masses as small as 10 GeV are admissible provided that
alpha_s(M_Z) \ge 0.12. Current hadron scattering data are insensitive to the
presence of gluinos heavier than ~ 100 - 150 GeV.Comment: 31 pages, 12 figures, RevTe
