    Design and Implementation of the Dynamic Spectrum Access on an Audio Stream in a Congested Environment

    This paper aims to design and implement the dynamic spectrum access (DSA) on an audio stream in a congested environment. The test approach for the DSA protocol is based on the frequency of selection of five chosen stations and the size of the audio file saved. The implementation of the DSA protocol was done with an FM received coupled with the energy detector and channel selection algorithm using a non-coherent FM demodulation procedure and the register transfer level - software defined radio (RTL-SDR) in MATLAB environment (version 2018b). The analysis of the results for the DSA protocol implemented in the FM receiver showed that the 97.3MHz station is active compared to the remaining stations

    A Linear Regression Model for Global Solar Radiation on Horizontal Surfaces at Warri, Nigeria

    The growing anxiety on the negative effects of fossil fuels on the environment and the global emission reduction targets call for a more extensive use of renewable energy alternatives. Efficient solar energy utilization is an essential solution to the high atmospheric pollution caused by fossil fuel combustion. Global solar radiation (GSR) data, which are useful for the design and evaluation of solar energy conversion system, are not measured at the forty-five meteorological stations in Nigeria. The dearth of the measured solar radiation data calls for accurate estimation. This study proposed a temperature-based linear regression, for predicting the monthly average daily GSR on horizontal surfaces, at Warri (latitude 5.020N and longitude 7.880E) an oil city located in the south-south geopolitical zone, in Nigeria. The proposed model is analyzed based on five statistical indicators (coefficient of correlation, coefficient of determination, mean bias error, root mean square error, and t-statistic), and compared with the existing sunshine-based model for the same study. The results indicate that the proposed temperature-based linear regression model could replace the existing sunshine-based model for generating global solar radiation data

    Impacts of Ambient Temperature Change on the Breakdown Voltage of a Distribution Transformer

    The aim of this paper is to determine the effects of ambient temperature variation on the breakdown voltage of a distribution transformer. Three different insulation oil samples (naphtha mineral, paraffin mineral and silicon base transformer oil) were collected from six distribution transformers (300 – 500 kVA) across two business units (Asaba and Ugbowo) of Benin Electricity Distribution Company during May and June, 2017. The oil samples were analysed using the 60 kV Megger OST60PB portable oil tester, to determine the trend of breakdown voltage of the oil insulation under varying temperature. A 3rd order polynomial model was deduced for each sample type with coefficient of determination within the range of 96.99 – 99.95 %. The observed average breakdown voltage is 43.6 kV (for naphtha base mineral transformer oil), 42.2 kV (for paraffin base mineral transformer oil) and 46.8 kV (for silicon base transformer oil) within the temperature range (26˚C – 32˚C). The result indicates that the breakdown voltages of the considered transformer oil types are satisfactory but the silicon base transformer oil has the best breakdown voltage

    This study proposes a temperature-based model of monthly mean daily global solar radiation on horizontal surfaces for selected cities, representing the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria. The modelling was based on linear regression theory and was computed using monthly mean daily data set for minimum and maximum ambient temperatures. The results of three statistical indicators: Mean Bias Error (MBE), Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), and t-statistic (TS), performed on the model along with practical comparison of the estimated and observed data, validate the excellent performance accuracy of the proposed model
