Sensitivity of T2KK to non-standard interactions

Assuming only the non-zero electron and tau neutrino components ϵee\epsilon_{ee}, ϵeτ\epsilon_{e\tau}, ϵττ\epsilon_{\tau\tau} of the non-standard matter effect and postulating the atmospheric neutrino constraint ϵττ=ϵeτ2/(1+ϵee)\epsilon_{\tau\tau}=|\epsilon_{e\tau}|^2/(1+\epsilon_{ee}), the sensitivity to the non-standard interaction in neutrino propagation of the T2KK neutrino long-baseline experiment is estimated. It is found that T2KK can constrain the parameters ϵee1|\epsilon_{ee}|\lesssim 1, ϵeτ0.2|\epsilon_{e\tau}|\lesssim 0.2.Comment: 3 pages, 4 figures, uses espcrc2.sty. Optical microresonators are minute dielectric objects that are utilized as essential components in micrometer-scale light and laser sources, optical integrated circuits, micro-displays, chemo- and biosensors, and so forth. Particularly, microresonators made from organic and polymeric materials find unique applications owing to structural flexibility, color tunability, and functionality with a simple fabrication process, low cost and low energy consumption. In this Account, we highlight our recent progress on organic/polymeric microresonators made through precisely controlled self-assembly. The microstructures display novel optical functions such as circularly polarized luminescence emission, lasing, light energy harvest, optical gate operations, optical memories and authentications, and optical sensing for environmental changes and mechanical forces. Our methodology for the precise design and control of organic and polymeric microstructures will bridge between nanometer-scale supramolecular chemistry and bulk materials and will pave the way toward flexible optical and laser applications.</p

Sensitivity of T2KK to the non-standard interaction in propagation

Assuming only the non-zero electron and tau neutrino components ϵee\epsilon_{ee}, ϵeτ\epsilon_{e\tau}, ϵττ\epsilon_{\tau\tau} of the non-standard matter effect and postulating the atmospheric neutrino constraint ϵττ=ϵeτ2/(1+ϵee)\epsilon_{\tau\tau}=|\epsilon_{e\tau}|^2/(1+\epsilon_{ee}), we study the sensitivity to the non-standard interaction in neutrino propagation of the T2KK neutrino long-baseline experiment. It is shown that T2KK can constrain the parameters ϵee1|\epsilon_{ee}|\lesssim 1, ϵeτ0.2|\epsilon_{e\tau}|\lesssim 0.2. It is also shown that if ϵeτ|\epsilon_{e\tau}| and θ13\theta_{13} are large, then T2KK can determine the Dirac phase and the phase of ϵeτ\epsilon_{e\tau} separately, due to the information at the two baselines. We also provide an argument that the components ϵαμ|\epsilon_{\alpha\mu}| (α=e,μ,τ)(\alpha=e,\mu,\tau) must be small for the disappearance oscillation probability to be consistent with high-energy atmospheric neutrino data, which justifies our premise that these quantities are negligible.Comment: 29 pages, 25 figures, uses revtex4-1. This paper documents the first case of gastric cancer associated with Recklinghausen's disease, which was successfully treated by a totally laparoscopic operation. A 67-year-old woman with Recklinghausen's disease was referred to this department to undergo surgical treatment for early gastric cancer. The physical examination showed multiple cutaneous neurofibromas throughout the body surface, which made an upper abdominal incision impossible. Laparoscopic surgery requiring only small incisions was well indicated, and a totally laparoscopic distal gastrectomy with lymph node dissection was performed. Billroth I reconstruction was done intra-abdominally using a delta-shaped anastomosis. The patient followed a satisfactory postoperative course with no complications. Since the totally laparoscopic gastrectomy has many advantages over open surgery, it should therefore be preferentially used as a less invasive treatment in the field of gastric cancer

Aim: To determine the effectiveness of a formula diet in weight reduction and the recovery of menstruation in obese patients with ovulatory disorders. Methods: After the enrollment of 39 obese women with ovulatory disorders, they replaced one or two of their three normal meals with a microdiet (MD) (240 kcal/meal) for 24 weeks. Physical, endocrinological, and biochemical tests were conducted before and at 12 and 24 weeks of the study. Of the 39 women enrolled, 26 were not taking clomiphene. They were divided into three groups according to their body weight outcomes and then analyzed for menstruation recovery. Results: A weight reduction of ≥5% was observed in 31 (81.5%) of the 39 women. There were significant decreases in the body weight and Body Mass Index during the study. Menstruation returned in 18 (69%) of the 26 patients without clomiphene treatment, with the recovery being significantly more prevalent in the groups (totally 81.0%) that exhibited a 5%‐10% weight reduction and ≥10% weight reduction, compared to the group with a <5% weight reduction. Conclusion: The use of a formula diet effectively reduced the patients’ body weight and led to the recovery of menstruation in these obese patients with ovulatory disorders

Importance: Post hoc analysis in a phase 2/3 trial indicated ultra-high dose methylcobalamin slowed decline of the Revised Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Functional Rating Scale (ALSFRS-R) total score at week 16 as well as at week 182, without increase of adverse events, in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) who were enrolled within 1 year from onset. Objective: To validate the efficacy and safety of ultra-high dose methylcobalamin for patients with ALS enrolled within 1 year of onset. Design: A multicenter, placebo-controlled, double-blind, randomized phase 3 trial with 12-week observation and 16-week randomized period, conducted from October 2017 to September 2019. Setting: Twenty-five neurology centers in Japan. Participants: Patients with ALS diagnosed within 1 year of onset by the updated Awaji criteria were initially enrolled. Of those, patients fulfilling the following criteria after 12-week observation were eligible for randomization: 1- or 2-point decrease in ALSFRS-R total score, a percent forced vital capacity over 60%, no history of noninvasive respiratory support and tracheostomy, and being ambulant. The target number was 64 in both methylcobalamin and placebo groups. Of 203 patients enrolled in the observation, 130 patients (age, 61.0 ± 11.7 years; female, 56) met the criteria and were randomly assigned through an electronic web-response system to methylcobalamin or placebo (65 for each). Of these, 129 patients were eligible for the full analysis set, and 126 completed the double-blind stage. Interventions: Intramuscular injection of methylcobalamin 50 mg or placebo twice weekly for 16 weeks. Main outcomes and measures: The primary endpoint was change in ALSFRS-R total score from baseline to week 16 in the full analysis set. Results: The least-squares mean difference in ALSFRS-R total score at week 16 of the randomized period was 1.97 points greater with methylcobalamin than placebo (−2.66 versus −4.63; 95% CI, 0.44–3.50; P = 0.012). The incidence of adverse events was similar between the two groups. Conclusions and relevance: Ultra-high dose methylcobalamin was efficacious in slowing functional decline and safe in the 16-week treatment period in ALS patients in the early stage and with moderate progression rate.
