Model-based Optimization of Compressive Antennas for High-Sensing-Capacity Applications
This paper presents a novel, model-based compressive antenna design method
for high sensing capacity imaging applications. Given a set of design
constraints, the method maximizes the sensing capacity of the compressive
antenna by varying the constitutive properties of scatterers distributed along
the antenna. Preliminary 2D design results demonstrate the new method's ability
to produce antenna configurations with enhanced imaging capabilities
Pressure dependence of phase transitions in the quasi one-dimensional metal-insulator transition system beta-Na1/3V2O5
The pressure dependence of phase transitions in the quasi one-dimensional
vanadium oxide -NaVO has been studied by magnetic
susceptibility and electrical resistivity measurements. The pressure dependence
of the various transition temperatures is quite differently. The transition at
T=240 K, previously reported and attributed to ordering on Na sites, and a
second transition at K, reported here for the first time and
attributed to a further increase of order on Na sites, are almost independent
of pressure. On the other hand, the metal-insulator (MI) transition at
K shifts to lower temperatures, while the magnetic transition at
K shifts to higher temperatures with increasing pressure. We discuss
the different pressure dependencies of and in terms of
increasing interchain coupling and the MI transition to be of Peierls type.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure
Scalable Robotic Intra-Logistics with Answer Set Programming
Over time, Answer Set Programming (ASP) has gained traction as a versatile logic programming semantics with performant processing systems, used by a growing number of significant applications in academia and industry. However, this development is threatened by a lack of commonly accepted design patterns and techniques for ASP to address dynamic application on a real-world scale. To this end, we identified robotic intra-logistics as representative scenario, a major domain of interest in the context of the fourth industrial revolution. For this setting, we aim to provide a scalable and efficient ASP-based solutions by (1) stipulating a standardized test and benchmark framework; (2) leveraging existing ASP techniques through new design patterns; and (3) extending ASP with new functionalities. In this paper we will expand on the subject matter as well as detail our current progress and future plans
Searching for hot Jupiter transits around cool stars
In this thesis, I describe the search for transiting hot Jupiters with a focus on cool dwarfs, low-mass main-sequence stars. I detail the results of our Pan-Planets survey and the necessary follow-up and show a discovered planet in the Beehive cluster M44, a transiting hot Neptune around an M dwarf. Finally, I evaluate our results in the context of planet occurrence rate and demonstrate that we set more precise limits for hot Jupiters in M dwarf systems than other projects before us.Deutsche Übersetzung des Titels: Die Suche nach heißen Jupiter-Transits um kühle Stern
