Synthesis and pharmacological characterization of potent, selective, and orally bioavailable isoindoline class dipeptidyl peptidase IV inhibitors

Focused structure-activity relationships of isoindoline class DPP-IV inhibitors have led to the discovery of 4b as a highly selective, potent inhibitor of DPP-IV. In vivo studies in Wistar/ST rats showed that 4b was converted into the strongly active metabolite 4l in high yield, resulting in good in vivo efficacy for antihyperglycemic activity

We are helping students to learn International Contributions on our own college program. At the beginning of that, we visited The Kingdom of Cambodia to inspect Japanese NGO (nongovernmental organization) for 4days. We have got much experience there and learned how participants in NGO could support a mother-and-child family, orphans and mine disorders. After we came back here, we have established an activity group in our college. We report here the possibility our Cambodia study tour, various activities with our students and how we can make our students understand matters of International Contributions

The missions of the Cambodia Circle of Niimi College are: 1) to understand developing countries and acquire global viewpoints, 2) to reflect on international cooperation, and 3) to refine professional intelligence and sensibilities. To achieve these goals, the circle is engaged in activities both on campus and in Cambodia. This study aimed to evaluate the impacts and educational effects of international exchanges with the country on nursing students who participated in a study tour there, and obtain suggestions for future activities of the circle. It was found that the students\u27 previously inaccurate images of Cambodia were dispelled by visiting the country, becoming attracted by active lifestyles characteristic of certain Asian nations. They also became aware of the diversity in values stemming from differences in the climate, language, and culture between both countries. Furthermore, they behaved in a way we would expect of them to practice their own global cooperation from a professional viewpoint, and maintain their interest in Southeast Asia. These observations indicate that the study tour in Cambodia fulfills the circle\u27s missions

We applied for Support Program for Distinctive University Education in the category of improvement of teaching methods in 2007, and was selected as one of the "Good Practice (GP)" out of 331 programs nationwide. Only 12 programs were chosen out of 70 applicants in the junior college division. This is a report of the application about the nursing research in which all the faculty members of the Department of Nursing have been engage

Genetic relatedness between Japanese and European isolates of Clostridium difficile originating from piglets and their risk associated with human health

Clostridium difficile colonization in pig intestine has been a public health concern. We analyzed C. difficile prevalence among piglets in Japan to clarify their origin and extent of the associated risk by using molecular and microbiological methods for both swine and human clinical isolates and foreign isolates. C. difficile was isolated from 120 neonatal piglet fecal samples. Toxin gene profile, antimicrobial susceptibilities, PCR ribotype, and multiple-locus variable-number tandem-repeat analysis (MLVA) type of swine isolates were determined and compared with those of human clinical and foreign isolates. One-hundred C. difficile strains were isolated from 69 (57.5%) samples, and 61 isolates (61%) were toxin gene-positive. Some isolates were resistant to antimicrobials, contributing to antibiotic-associated diarrhea by C. difficile. These results suggest that C. difficile, prevalent among Japanese pigs, is a potential risk for antibiotic-associated diarrhea. Furthermore, PCR ribotype 078 (12 isolates), which has been linked to multiple outbreaks worldwide, was the third-most frequently isolated of the 14 PCR ribotypes identified. Moreover, MLVA revealed that all 12 PCR ribotype 078 isolates were genetically related to European PCR ribotype 078 strains found in both humans and pigs. To date, in Japan, many breeding pigs have been imported from European countries. The genetic relatedness of C. difficile isolates of Japanese swine origin to those of European origin suggests that they were introduced into Japan via imported pigs
