Nonlocal density functionals and the linear response of the homogeneous electron gas
The known and usable truly nonlocal functionals for exchange-correlation
energy of the inhomogeneous electron gas are the ADA (average density
approximation) and the WDA (weighted density approximation). ADA, by design,
yields the correct linear response function of the uniform electron gas. WDA is
constructed so that it is exact in the limit of one-electron systems. We derive
an expression for the linear response of the uniform gas in the WDA, and
calculate it for several flavors of WDA. We then compare the results with the
Monte-Carlo data on the exchange-correlation local field correction, and
identify the weak points of conventional WDA in the homogeneous limit. We
suggest how the WDA can be modified to improve the response function. The
resulting approximation is a good one in both opposite limits, and should be

Studies on the characterisation of physiological sink in Anab-e-Shahi grapes (Vitis vinifera L.)
The number of vascular bundles and area of phloem per cross section in the peduncle were determined from the clusters of variable sizes in grape variety Anab-e-Shahi. Dry matter accumulation of the bunch was dependent on the number of berries and total phloem area in cross section of the peduncle. Gibberealic acid applied at full bloom stage increased the weight of the bunch by enlarging the berry size. A correlation between bunch weight and total phloem area was established in the gibberellic acid treated bunch. Increase in bunch weight was dependent on the total phloem area and the rate of transport of dry matter towards the developing berries.Untersuchungen zur Charakterisierung des physiologischen „sink" bei Vitis vinifera ,,Anab-e-Shahi"Bei der Rebsorte Anab-e-Shahi wurden für Trauben unterschiedlicher Größe die Anzahl der Gefäßbündel und die Phloemfläche in den Querschnitten der Traubenstiele bestimmt. Die Anhäufung von Trockensubstanz in den Trauben hing von der Beerenzahl und dem Gesamtquerschnitt des Phloems ab. Zur Zeit der vollen Blüte angewandte Gibberellinsäure steigerte das Traubengewicht durch Vergrößerung der Beeren. Bei den Gibberellinsäure-behandelten Trauben wurde eine Korrelation zwischen Traubengewicht und Gesamtquerschnitt des Phloems festgestellt. Die Zunahme des Traubengewichtes hing ab vom gesamten Phloemquerschnitt und der Höhe des Trockensubstanztransportes nach den sich entwickelnden Beeren.
Unexplored photoluminescence from bulk and mechanically exfoliated few layers of Bi2Te3
We report the exotic photoluminescence (PL) behaviour of 3D topological
insulator Bi2Te3 single crystals grown by customized self-flux method and
mechanically exfoliated few layers (18 plus minus 2 nm)/thin flakes obtained by
standard scotch tape method from as grown Bi2Te3 crystals.The experimental PL
studies on bulk single crystal and mechanically exfoliated few layers of Bi2Te3
evidenced a broad red emission in the visible region. These findings are in
good agreement with our theoretical results obtained using the ab initio

Topological network alignment uncovers biological function and phylogeny
Sequence comparison and alignment has had an enormous impact on our
understanding of evolution, biology, and disease. Comparison and alignment of
biological networks will likely have a similar impact. Existing network
alignments use information external to the networks, such as sequence, because
no good algorithm for purely topological alignment has yet been devised. In
this paper, we present a novel algorithm based solely on network topology, that
can be used to align any two networks. We apply it to biological networks to
produce by far the most complete topological alignments of biological networks
to date. We demonstrate that both species phylogeny and detailed biological
function of individual proteins can be extracted from our alignments.
Topology-based alignments have the potential to provide a completely new,
independent source of phylogenetic information. Our alignment of the
protein-protein interaction networks of two very different species--yeast and
human--indicate that even distant species share a surprising amount of network
topology with each other, suggesting broad similarities in internal cellular

Effect of Muons on the Phase Transition in Magnetised Proto-Neutron Star Matter
We study the effect of inclusion of muons and the muon neutrinos on the phase
transition from nuclear to quark matter in a magnetised proto-neutron star and
compare our results with those obtained by us without the muons. We find that
the inclusion of muons changes slightly the nuclear density at which transition
occurs.However the dependence of this transition density on various chemical
potentials, temperature and the magnetic field remains quantitatively the same.Comment: LaTex2e file with four postscript figure
Daily Stress Recognition from Mobile Phone Data, Weather Conditions and Individual Traits
Research has proven that stress reduces quality of life and causes many
diseases. For this reason, several researchers devised stress detection systems
based on physiological parameters. However, these systems require that
obtrusive sensors are continuously carried by the user. In our paper, we
propose an alternative approach providing evidence that daily stress can be
reliably recognized based on behavioral metrics, derived from the user's mobile
phone activity and from additional indicators, such as the weather conditions
(data pertaining to transitory properties of the environment) and the
personality traits (data concerning permanent dispositions of individuals). Our
multifactorial statistical model, which is person-independent, obtains the
accuracy score of 72.28% for a 2-class daily stress recognition problem. The
model is efficient to implement for most of multimedia applications due to
highly reduced low-dimensional feature space (32d). Moreover, we identify and
