Long-range behavior of the optical potential for the elastic scattering of charged composite particles

    Get PDF
The asymptotic behavior of the optical potential, describing elastic scattering of a charged particle α\alpha off a bound state of two charged, or one charged and one neutral, particles at small momentum transfer Δα\Delta_{\alpha} or equivalently at large intercluster distance ρα\rho_{\alpha}, is investigated within the framework of the exact three-body theory. For the three-charged-particle Green function that occurs in the exact expression for the optical potential, a recently derived expression, which is appropriate for the asymptotic region under consideration, is used. We find that for arbitrary values of the energy parameter the non-static part of the optical potential behaves for Δα0\Delta_{\alpha} \rightarrow 0 as C1Δα+o(Δα)C_{1}\Delta_{\alpha} + o\,(\Delta_{\alpha}). From this we derive for the Fourier transform of its on-shell restriction for ρα\rho_{\alpha} \rightarrow \infty the behavior a/2ρα4+o(1/ρα4)-a/2\rho_{\alpha}^4 + o\,(1/\rho_{\alpha}^4), i.e., dipole or quadrupole terms do not occur in the coordinate-space asymptotics. This result corroborates the standard one, which is obtained by perturbative methods. The general, energy-dependent expression for the dynamic polarisability C1C_{1} is derived; on the energy shell it reduces to the conventional polarisability aa which is independent of the energy. We emphasize that the present derivation is {\em non-perturbative}, i.e., it does not make use of adiabatic or similar approximations, and is valid for energies {\em below as well as above the three-body dissociation threshold}.Comment: 35 pages, no figures, revte

Proton-Deuteron Elastic Scattering from 2.5 to 22.5 MeV

We present the results of a calculation of differential cross sections and polarization observables for proton-deuteron elastic scattering, for proton laboratory energies from 2.5 to 22.5 MeV. The Paris potential parametrisation of the nuclear force is used. As solution method for the charged-composite particle equations the 'screening and renormalisation approach' is adopted which allows to correctly take into account the Coulomb repulsion between the two protons. Comparison is made with the precise experimental data of Sagara et al. [Phys. Rev. C 50, 576 (1994)] and of Sperison et al. [Nucl. Phys. A422, 81 (1984)].Comment: 24 pages, 8 eps figures, uses REVTe

Pain syndrome is the most common reason for patients to seek medical care, the importance of which is steadily increasing in the structure of the total incidence. To optimize costs and ensure high-quality treatment of patients with chronic pain syndrome it is necessary to study existing drugs and methods and introduce new ones. Based on theoretical data on the use of inert gases in medicine, a hypothesis was put forward that xenon could have a pronounced analgesic effect when administered subcutaneously. This study is aimed at confirming the safety of xenon in parapulmonary administration to rats

The paper studies rhenium (VII) sorption from sulfuric acid solutions by impregnates based on macroporous polymer carriers (copolymers of styrene with divinylbenzene, weak acid cation exchange resion) containing commercial trialkylamine (ТAA). The study provides equilibrium and kinetic characteristics of rhenium recovery by the impregnate based on the macroporous weakly acidic cation exchange resin (K-TAA) having the best rhenium capacity. The maximum coefficient of rhenium distribution in the K-TAA impregnate is observed in sorption from pH = 2 solutions. The rhenium sorption isotherm is described by the Langmuir equation with the K = 29±2 ml/g constant. A limited solution volume method was used to obtain the integral kinetic curves of sorption with a half-reaction time value considered to calculate the effective coefficients of rhenium diffusion in the impregnate amounted to (3,8·10–11 (295 K) and 1,3·10–10 (308 K) m2/s). Kinetic results linearized by the equations of models (pseudo-first, pseudo-second order, Elovich and inner diffusion) showed that kinetic curves with the highest correlation degree are described by the pseudo-second order equation with the 0,00056 (295 K) and 0,00059 (308 K) g·mg–1·min–1 rate constants. The apparent activation energy of rhenium sorption (39±2 kJ/mol) was calculated using the Arrhenius equation. The K-TAA impregnate was tested for rhenium sorption from the eluate obtained by rhenium desorption from the Purolite A170, weak base anion exchange resin pre-saturated with rhenium from the complex pregnant solution for leaching of products derived from poor rhenium-containing copper sulfide raw materials processed.

Aim. To assess long-term sequelae of COVID-19 in hospitalized patients at 3 to 7 months after discharge.Material and Methods. The whole of 700 patients hospitalized to the temporary COVID-19 treatment center hosted by the FSBI “National Medical Research Center of Cardiology” of the Ministry of Health of Russia from April to June 2020 were invited to participate in a follow-up study. At 3-7 months after the index hospitalization, patients or their proxies were contacted via telephone in order to obtain information on their vital status, cardiovascular and other conditions or their complications, and new hospitalizations. In addition, patients were invited to an outpatient visit under the "COVID-19-follow-up" program, encompassing physical examination and a comprehensive battery of laboratory and instrumental tests, including spirometry, chest computed tomography (CT) and the six minute walk test (6MWT). Further, dyspnea was assessed using the mMRC (Modified Medical Research Council) Dyspnea Scale. Results: We were able to contact 87.4% (612/700) of patients or their proxies. At follow-up, 4.4% (27) patients died, of which 96.3% (26) had cardiovascular diseases (CVD). A total of 213 patients aged 19 to 94 years old (mean age 56.8±12.5, median 57 years [49.0; 64.0]; men, 55.4%) agreed come for an outpatient visit and to participate in the “COVID-19-follow-up” program. Since discharge, 8% (17) of patients required new hospitalizations, and more than a half of these patients (58.8%; 10/17) had CVD-related hospitalizations. A total of 8.4% (18) patients experienced worsening of hypertension, 9 (4.2%) patients had newly diagnosed hypertension, 2 (0.9%) – coronary artery disease patients experienced new/recurrent angina symptoms. 4 (1.9%) patients had newly diagnosed coronary artery disease, and one patient had an ischemic stroke. At the outpatient visit, 114 (53.5%) patients had some symptoms, most frequently, shortness of breath (33%), fatigue (27.4%), chest pain (11.3%), and abnormal heartbeats (8.5%). Based on the mMRC Scale, 59% of patients had dyspnea of varying severity. Most patients had a normal vital capacity (VC), which was moderately reduced in 3.3% and severely reduced in 0.5% of patients. Chest CT scans were obtained in 78 (36.6%) patients, whose worst lung damage scores during hospitalization were CT3 or CT4. One in ten patients (10.8%) with severe lung damage during acute infection had persisting ground glass opacities, 35.9% developed fibrotic changes, 79.6% of patients had linear or fine focal opacities. According to the 6MWT data, 12.3% of patients walked less than 70% of the predicted distance, 67% walked 71 to 99% of the predicted distance, and 20.7% of patients were able to walk 100% of their predicted distance.Conclusion. These data suggest long-term negative sequelae of COVID-19 in more than half of hospitalized patients
