Cultivating a definitive volunteer training program for large disability sport events

Disabled sport is significantly less funded than able-bodied sport. Because of this discrepancy, volunteers are heavily relied on for the functioning of large-scale disability sport events. Volunteers are critical to any disability sport event, and it is of utmost importance that they are trained correctly so that these events are successful celebrations of sport. The purpose of this study is to attain current disability sport volunteer training programs and integrate these findings with new qualitative data collected through interviews with athletes with disabilities, event organizers, and previous volunteers. The collection of information will be multi-phased and include data analysis using NVivo

Regime Type, Censorship, and Trust in Government With a Special Look at China

This research stems from a fascination with the unique social media censorship efforts in China. In order to determine if such heavy social media restrictions are unique to China this study uses data from the World Values Survey to investigate the relationship between regime type and social media censorship. The paper then examines the relationship between government censorship effort and citizens’ trust in government. Ultimately, I find that while regime type is a predictor of censorship, censorship does not have a substantial effect on citizens’ confidence in government overall. However, the data does seem to suggest that censorship may be important to autocracies and that censorship may actually be effective in China

Growing Pains: The Transformative Journey from a Nascent to a Formal Not-For-Profit Venture

This article examines how a social venture transitions from nascent to formal status and argues that the transformation of the organization set in motion by establishing formal boundaries is a deeply profound one. Drawing from the nonprofit and social entrepreneurship literature on what prompts and energizes individuals to initiate new not-for-profit ventures, and linking it to a notion of revolutionary crisis as organizations emerge and develop, we seek to illuminate and explore the tension, and its consequences, between nonprofit entrepreneurs and the organization they create as the new venture transitions from nascent to formal. We do this by presenting the results from an in-depth case study examining the gestation and boundary-forming phases of Robert’s Place Cooperative, a plucky start-up cooperative in a midsize Midwestern city
