    Issues of sustainability on the Brazilian broiler meat production chain.

    Abstract. Brazil is the world's largest broiler meat export. The sanitary control, knowledge and technology, as well as the natural aspects of the country are pointed as the key for the success of the product on the market. In this paper, an overview on the ammonia emission of the Brazilian broiler meat production chain from 2005 to 2010 is presented. The emission of ammonia was estimated on 700 thousand tons per year, which may implicate in the decay in the surrounding environment near the production areas. Brazilian broiler production creates jobs and has a significant social rule in Brazilian economy; however in the other hand, the implications of emitting this amount of ammonia to the atmosphere may be undesirable. Advances in developing new fodder technology are needed, in order to mitigate this issue.ID: 175 - APMS 2012

    Precision livestock tools to improve products and processes in broiler production: a review

    Economic growth and production process development require technological support. Technology changes production functions, enabling a higher number of goods to be produced using the same amount of input. In this review, we discuss research and development in information technology that has led to innovative actions, with the new generation of tools, known as precision agriculture tools, that can be applied in Brazilian poultry production. In this context, research and development have focused on producing technological innovations based on increasingly specialized tools that go beyond human mind power, and are related to the acquisition, access, and processing of a huge number of data. The technology generated to date has assimilated the knowledge of experts, transferring it to the computing environment, providing steady, consistent, inexpensive, and fast tools to support decision-making in corporate farms. This will produce more precise and documented decisions, based on accessible and reproducible knowledge. There would be no direct interference of the global market, bringing benefits to producers, consumers, and also ensuring the welfare of birds. This review also highlights the interest of researcher in developing intelligent applications to support best practices, methods, and processes in order to monitor the production chain. It also shows that a few changes may affect the process as a whole, enabling fast decision-making, and promoting a preventative and less aggressive management of birds

    O segmento de moda é compreendido por várias redes de empresas, que atuam em conjunto, de forma interdependente, visando o sucesso da cadeia produtiva. Utilizando grande capilaridade, essas redes são formadas por empresas que interagem com diversos ramos de negócios e de produção de vários produtos. São também várias as formas de distribuição utilizadas nesta rede. Esta pesquisa objetivou investigar a aplicação de conceitos de sustentabilidade na cadeia de produção e de distribuição de vestuário de moda. A pesquisa foi elaborada a partir de um estudo exploratório e um estudo de caso, totalizando cinco entrevistas. A compreensão do tema sustentabilidade nos diversos segmentos que compõem as redes de empresas de moda é apresentado e discutido, sendo proposto o algodão colorido para sustentabilidade do setor.</p

O pó de silício obtido através do processo do corte das lâminas de silício foi caracterizado por ensaios físicos e por microscopia ótica. Após a separação, o resíduo foi adicionado ao cimento comum formando corpos de prova e com isso, avaliou-se o possível ganho na resistência à compressão comparada ao cimento comum, comprovando a viabilidade técnica da utilização deste tipo de resíduo na fabricação de produtos de cimento.</p

    Brazil is the world's largest broiler meat exporter. Health control, knowledge and technology, as well as the natural aspects of the country are pointed out as the keys for the success of that product in the market. Brazilian broiler production grew significantly in the last decade; it creates jobs and has a significant social role in Brazilian economy. This study aimed at evaluating the Brazilian broiler meat supply chain from 2000 to 2010 using the social network analysis (SNA). Data from governmental and private sources were organized and analyzed. The focus of this study was the broiler production supply chain segment involving the hatchery, the broiler farm, the feed mill, the processing plant, and the government. The inputs considered were one-day-old chicks, pullet, feedstuff, and the infrastructure; and the outputs were broiler meat and taxes paid. The software UCINET was applied for calculating the structural attributes and indicators of the network. Results showed a relatively disorganized network in 2000 with the strongest tie between the farmer and the processing plant. The structural organization of the network improved until 2010. The density of the ties in the broiler meat production network increased steadily from 2000 to 2010 within a vertical cohesive supply chain structure. The success of Brazilian broiler meat production is attributed to the abundance of land, fertile soil, favorable climate, and the effort and investments in research and development by innovative companies in the last few years. The results of the present study showed that Brazilian broiler production evolved positively in the last ten years, and it was weakly influenced by international challenges

    Cohort profile: the ESC EURObservational Research Programme Non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infraction (NSTEMI) Registry

    Aims The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) EURObservational Research Programme (EORP) Non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) Registry aims to identify international patterns in NSTEMI management in clinical practice and outcomes against the 2015 ESC Guidelines for the management of acute coronary syndromes in patients presenting without ST-segment-elevation. Methods and results Consecutively hospitalised adult NSTEMI patients (n = 3620) were enrolled between 11 March 2019 and 6 March 2021, and individual patient data prospectively collected at 287 centres in 59 participating countries during a two-week enrolment period per centre. The registry collected data relating to baseline characteristics, major outcomes (inhospital death, acute heart failure, cardiogenic shock, bleeding, stroke/transient ischaemic attack, and 30-day mortality) and guideline-recommended NSTEMI care interventions: electrocardiogram pre- or in-hospital, prehospitalization receipt of aspirin, echocardiography, coronary angiography, referral to cardiac rehabilitation, smoking cessation advice, dietary advice, and prescription on discharge of aspirin, P2Y12 inhibition, angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEi)/angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB), beta-blocker, and statin. Conclusion The EORP NSTEMI Registry is an international, prospective registry of care and outcomes of patients treated for NSTEMI, which will provide unique insights into the contemporary management of hospitalised NSTEMI patients, compliance with ESC 2015 NSTEMI Guidelines, and identify potential barriers to optimal management of this common clinical presentation associated with significant morbidity and mortality
