Two-dimensional state sum models and spin structures
The state sum models in two dimensions introduced by Fukuma, Hosono and Kawai
are generalised by allowing algebraic data from a non-symmetric Frobenius
algebra. Without any further data, this leads to a state sum model on the
sphere. When the data is augmented with a crossing map, the partition function
is defined for any oriented surface with a spin structure. An algebraic
condition that is necessary for the state sum model to be sensitive to spin
structure is determined. Some examples of state sum models that distinguish
topologically-inequivalent spin structures are calculated.Comment: 43 pages. Mathematica script in ancillary file. v2: nomenclature of

Differentiating subluxation from developmental dislocation of the hip
The radiological and clinical picture of a developmental hip dislocation and a severe subluxation are identical. According to Leveuf and Wiberg the diagnosis can only be made by arthrography. The differential diagnosis is critical, as treatment differs dependent on the diagnosis. In this study, the diagnosis of subluxation was based on a plain radiograph of the pelvis. A radiograph of the pelvis with the hips abducted at least 45° and internally rotated (AIR view) was used to differentiate these two entities. In subluxations, the femoral head will relocate into the acetabulum with perfect or near perfect reconstitution of the Shenton's line. It will fail to do so in true dislocations. Five patients, mean age 14.6 months (range 9 to 20 months), presented with delayed diagnosis of hip dysplasia. The examination revealed minimal or no limitation of hip abduction, a leg length discrepancy, and a Trendelenburg gait in the three walking age girls. The radiograph suggested a hip dislocation. The diagnosis of hip subluxation was based on the relocation of the femoral head with the abduction/internal rotation radiograph. All were successfully treated with an Ilfeld abduction splint. None had examination with general anesthesia, arthrograms, traction or immobilization in spica cast. Avoiding over diagnosis of hip dislocation in cases of subluxation is important. This is necessary to prevent overtreatment and to accurately assess the results of treatment. The abduction/internal rotation view may achieve this goal while avoiding diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, such as arthrograms, cast immobilization and surgery
Effects of LatticeQCD EoS and Continuous Emission on Some ObseErvables
Effects of lattice-QCD-inspired equations of state and continuous emission on
some observables are discussed, by solving a 3D hydrodynamics. The particle
multiplicity as well as v2 are found to increase in the mid-rapidity. We also
discuss the effects of the initial-condition fluctuations.Comment: 6 pages, 10 figures, prepared for Workshop on Particle Correlations

Advanced Control Facility for the CERN-UNICOS Framework
CERN, during last decade, has extensively applied the CERN/UNICOS framework to large scale cryoplant control system. An increase of interested to advanced control techniques and innovative simulation environment applied to cryogenic processes has also occur. Since new control algorithm development into UNICOS framework requires significant time, a control testing platform which can be externally connected can improve and simplify the procedure of testing advanced controllers implementation. In this context, the present paper describes the development of a control testing tool at CERN, which allows rapid control strategies implementation through the Matlab/Simulink® environment, coupled with the large scale cryogenics UNICOS control system or with the CERN PROCOS simulation environment. The time delays which are inherently introduced by network links and communication protocols are analyzed and experimentally identified. Security and reliability issues are also discussed
The portal protein plays essential roles at different steps of the SPP1 DNA packaging process
AbstractA large number of viruses use a specialized portal for entry of DNA to the viral capsid and for its polarized exit at the beginning of infection. These families of viruses assemble an icosahedral procapsid containing a portal protein oligomer in one of its 12 vertices. The viral ATPase (terminase) interacts with the portal vertex to form a powerful molecular motor that translocates DNA to the procapsid interior against a steep concentration gradient. The portal protein is an essential component of this DNA packaging machine. Characterization of single amino acid substitutions in the portal protein gp6 of bacteriophage SPP1 that block DNA packaging identified sequential steps in the packaging mechanism that require its action. Gp6 is essential at early steps of DNA packaging and for DNA translocation to the capsid interior, it affects the efficiency of DNA packaging, it is a central component of the headful sensor that determines the size of the packaged DNA molecule, and is essential for closure of the portal pore by the head completion proteins to prevent exit of the DNA encapsidated. Functional regions of gp6 necessary at each step are identified within its primary structure. The similarity between the architecture of portal oligomers and between the DNA packaging strategies of viruses using portals strongly suggests that the portal protein plays the same roles in a large number of viruses
Hotspot detection of SPEC CPU 2006 benchmarks with performance event counters
Hotspot is the part of a program where most execution time is spent. Detecting the hotspot enables the optimization of the program. The performance event counters embedded in modern processors provide the hardware support for the hotspot detection. By sampling the instruc- tion addresses of the running program with performance event counters, hotspot of the program can be statistically detected. This technical re- port describes our tool to find the sections of the code that are detected as the hotspot of the program with performance event counters. SPEC CPU 2006 benchmarks are tested with our tool and the results show the hotspot sections and overhead of the hotspot detection tool
NeXSPheRIO results on elliptic flow at RHIC and connection with thermalization
Elliptic flow at RHIC is computed event-by-event with NeXSPheRIO. Reasonable
agreement with experimental results on is obtained. Various effects
are studied as well: reconstruction of impact parameter direction, freeze out
temperature, equation of state (with or without crossover), emission mecanism.Comment: Contribution to the Proceedings of the Quark-Gluon Plasma
