Aharonov-Bohm differential conductance modulation in defective metallic single-wall carbon nanotubes
Using a perturbative approach, the effects of the energy gap induced by the
Aharonov-Bohm (AB) flux on the transport properties of defective metallic
single-walled carbon nanotubes (MSWCNTs) are investigated. The electronic waves
scattered back and forth by a pair of impurities give rise to Fabry-Perot
oscillations which constitutes a coherent backscattering interference pattern
(CBSIP). It is shown that, the CBSIP is aperiodically modulated by applying a
magnetic field parallel to the nanotube axis. In fact, the AB-flux brings this
CBSIP under control by an additional phase shift. As a consequence, the extrema
as well as zeros of the CBSIP are located at the irrational fractions of the
quantity , where is the flux piercing the
nanotube cross section and is the magnetic quantum flux. Indeed,
the spacing between two adjacent extrema in the magneto-differential
conductance (MDC) profile is decreased with increasing the magnetic field. The
faster and higher and slower and shorter variations is then obtained by
metallic zigzag and armchair nanotubes, respectively. Such results propose that
defective metallic nanotubes could be used as magneto-conductance switching
devices based on the AB effect.Comment: 11 pages, 4 figure
Study the factors affecting the choice of higher education nonprofit institutions from candidate’s view (Case study: Preuniversity students in Qaemshahr)
This study was conducted to investigate the factors affecting the choice of higher education nonprofit institutions by pre-university students in Qaemshahr.From the population of the study 3176 people is randomly selected and a questionnaire was used to collect data that its reliability is 91/0 and its validity was approved by using the same external research and opinions of experts and university professors, finally, data from 320 students were analyzed by using SPSS software. Toanalyze the data t-test and Friedman test was used. The results show that among the studied variables, including economic factors, factors related to the university, personal factors and social factors, economic factors are most important to students and social factors are the least important.Key words: economic factors, factors related to the university, personal factors, social factors, higher education non-profit institution
Influence of phonons on exciton-photon interaction and photon statistics of a quantum dot
In this paper, we investigate, phonon effects on the optical properties of a
spherical quantum dot. For this purpose, we consider the interaction of a
spherical quantum dot with classical and quantum fields while the exciton of
quantum dot interacts with a solid state reservoir. We show that phonons
strongly affect the Rabi oscillations and optical coherence on first
picoseconds of dynamics. We consider the quantum statistics of emitted photons
by quantum dot and we show that these photons are anti-bunched and obey the
sub-Poissonian statistics. In addition, we examine the effects of detuning and
interaction of quantum dot with the cavity mode on optical coherence of energy
levels. The effects of detuning and interaction of quantum dot with cavity mode
on optical coherence of energy levels are compared to the effects of its
interaction with classical pulse
Retrieval of marine water constituents from AVIRIS data in the Hudson/Raritan Estuary
This paper reports on the validation of bio-optical models in estuarine and nearshore (case 2) waters of New Jersey-New York to retrieve accurate water leaving radiance spectra and chlorophyll concentration from the NASA Airborne Visible Infrared Imaging Spectrometer (AVIRIS) data complemented with in situ measurements. The study area - Hudson/Raritan Estuary - is a complex estuarine system where tidal and wind-driven currents are modified by freshwater discharges from the Hudson, Raritan, Hackensack, and Passaic rivers. Over the last century the estuarine water quality has degraded, in part due to eutrophication, which has disrupted the pre-existing natural balance, resulting in phytoplankton blooms of both increased frequency and intensity, increasing oxygen demand and leading to episodes of hypoxia. During 1999-2001 data acquisitions by NASA AVIRIS field measurements were obtained to establish hydrological optical properties of the Hudson/Raritan Estuary: (1) concurrent above- and below-surface spectral irradiance; (2) sampling for laboratory determination of inherent optical properties; and (3) concentrations of optically-important water quality parameters. We used a bio-optical model based on Gordon et al. to predict the sub-surface irradiance reflectance from optically important water constituents. Modelling of reflectance is a prerequisite for processing remote sensing data to desired thematic maps for input into the geographical information system (GIS) for use as a management tool in water quality assessment. A Radiative Transfer Code - MODTRAN-4 - was applied to remove the effects of the atmosphere so as to infer the water leaving radiance from the AVIRS data. The results of this procedure were not satisfactory, therefore an alternative approach was tested to directly correct the AVIRIS image using modelled spectra based on measured optical characteristics. The atmospherically corrected AVIRIS ratio image was used to calculate a thematic map of water quality parameters (i.e. chlorophyll-a) concentration, which subsequently were integrated into a GIS for management of water quality purposes. © 2005 Taylor & Francis
A dispersion theoretical approach to the threshold amplitudes of pion photoproduction
We give predictions for the partial wave amplitudes of pion photoproduction
near threshold by means of dispersion relations at fixed t. The free parameters
of this approach are determined by a fit to experimental data in the energy
range 160 MeV 420 MeV. The observables near threshold are
found to be rather sensitive to the amplitudes in the resonance region, in
particular to the (1232) and (1440). We obtain a good agreement
with the existing threshold data for both charged and neutral pion production.
Our predictions also agree well with the results of chiral perturbation theory,
except for neutral pion production off the neutron.Comment: 16 pages LATEX including 4 postscript figure
The position and the residues of the delta resonance pole in pion photoproduction
We have analyzed the and multipole
amplitudes of pion photoproduction in the framework of fixed- dispersion
relations. Applying the speed plot technique to our results for these
multipoles, we have determined the position and the residues of the
(1232) resonance pole. The pole is found at total energy MeV on the second Riemann sheet, and the ratio of the electric and
magnetic residues is , resulting in an E2/M1

Circadian Phase Resetting via Single and Multiple Control Targets
Circadian entrainment is necessary for rhythmic physiological functions to be appropriately timed over the 24-hour day. Disruption of circadian rhythms has been associated with sleep and neuro-behavioral impairments as well as cancer. To date, light is widely accepted to be the most powerful circadian synchronizer, motivating its use as a key control input for phase resetting. Through sensitivity analysis, we identify additional control targets whose individual and simultaneous manipulation (via a model predictive control algorithm) out-perform the open-loop light-based phase recovery dynamics by nearly 3-fold. We further demonstrate the robustness of phase resetting by synchronizing short- and long-period mutant phenotypes to the 24-hour environment; the control algorithm is robust in the presence of model mismatch. These studies prove the efficacy and immediate application of model predictive control in experimental studies and medicine. In particular, maintaining proper circadian regulation may significantly decrease the chance of acquiring chronic illness
Multipole analysis of pion photoproduction based on fixed t dispersion relations and unitarity
We have analysed pion photoproduction imposing constraints from fixed t
dispersion relations and unitarity. Coupled integral equations for the S and P
wave multipoles were derived from the dispersion relations and solved by the
method of Omnes and Muskhelishvili. The free parameters were determined by a
fit to the most recent data for \pi^{+} and \pi^{0} production on the proton as
well as \pi^{-} production on the neutron, in the energy We have analysed pion
photoproduction imposing constraints from fixed t dispersion relations and
unitarity. Coupled integral equations for the S and P wave multipoles were
derived from the dispersion relations and solved by the method of Omnes and
Muskhelishvili. The free parameters were determined by a fit to the most recent
data for \pi^{+} and \pi^{0} production on the proton as well as \pi^{-}
production on the neutron, in the energy range 160 MeV \leq E_{\gamma} \leq 420
MeV. The lack of high precision data on the neutron and of polarization
observables leads to some limitations of our results. Especially the multipole
M_{1-} connected with the Roper resonance P_{11}(1440) cannot be determined to
the required precision. Our predictions for the threshold amplitudes are in
good agreement with both the data and chiral perturbation theory. In the region
of the \Delta(1232) we have determined the ratio of electric quadrupole and
magnetic dipole excitation. The position of the resonance pole is obtained in
excellent agreement with pion-nucleon scattering, and the complex residues of
