This study investigated the capacity building strategies for counselling against early marriage of the Girl-child in Ogidi Education zone of Anambra state. Three research questions were used and descriptive survey design was adopted. The population for the study is all the parents who are members of the parents’ teachers’ association of all the schools in Ogidi education zone and all the eleven counsellors in the chosen zone. A sample of 660 respondents was chosen through random sampling and all the 11 counsellors were chosen because the population size is small. On the whole 671 respondents were used for the study. Instrument used was questionnaire and mean rating was used as the statistical tool. The results showed that all but one of the items are the capacity building strategies as agreed by the respondents. This implies that unless the parents work together with the counsellors, counselling might not contribute much in the fight against early marriage of the Girl-child. Recommendations include that parents in conjunction with the counsellors should mount campaigns through seminars, workshops, etc to modify the girls’ attitude towards early marriage

The continuous misgivings about Nigeria’s developmental trajectory predate Nigeria’s independence. The clues that can unravel and demystify the mystery surrounding the continuous retardation of socio-political and economic well-being of Nigeria have over the years become a tall order. Using the qualitative method, this paper succulently highlighted restructuring as a veritable panacea for promoting peaceful co-existence amongst ethnic nationalities, and also encourages healthy competition among federating units or states. This paper further discussed restructuring as it relates to resource control by sub-national government. It recommended power devolution and deloading of the exclusive list of 1999 constitution as amended and galvanizing the states and local government towards assuming more governmental responsibilities. This study presents information upon which the state of Louisiana can base its ozone State Implementation Plans (SIPs) designed to achieve planned emissions reduction that are required by the Clean Air Act (CAAA) of 1990. The research investigation included an assessment survey on a number of Transportation Control Measures (TCMs) and their degree of acceptability by the residents of Lake Charles area of Louisiana, the research target area. The TCMS were first ranked on the basis of people\u27s perception of each TCM and four TCMs were later analyzed for cost-effectiveness using computer mathematical models. The Traffic Flow Improvements TCM was shown as the most acceptable TCM, with a value of 4.06 on a Likert-type scale of 1 to 5, where 1 and 5 represent highly unacceptable and highly acceptable respectively. Results also show that the most acceptable TCM based on the people\u27s perception was not cost-effective in reducing mobile source emissions. The study listed several suggestions for future research, one of which was that a comprehensive analysis of the other TCMs should be done in order to offer the region a range of TCM options to choose from. Finally, this investigation noted that Home Base Survey (HBS) offered good merits for estimating trips and vehicle miles of travel (VMT). However, the study also noted associating the VMT from HBS with the different roadway classifications for emissions inventory may pose some problems. This study concluded by suggesting a combination of Home Survey and the HPMS methods of VMT estimation where feasible. This approach is viewed to provide better cost-effectiveness figures. Also, a sensitivity analysis on the relative emission notes versus speeds was done to demonstrate that emission rates were sensitive to speeds at various speed ranges for hydrocarbon or volatile organic compounds, carbon monoxide and oxides of hydrogen for the study area. MOBILE5a EPA-approved emission modeling computer software was used for the determination of the investigated mobile source emission rates for HC or VOC, CO, and NO x. Results of the air quality analysis showed that the region has now moved from its nonattainment status to attainment status in NAAQS

Poverty among rural women in Nigeria hinders the economic and socialwellbeing of families. Alleviating such poverty is therefore a major issue for national survival. This study investigated the strategies for inculcating Home Economics based life (survival) skills among rural women as a panacea for poverty alleviation. The study was a descriptive survey that was based on two research questions. From a population of 1,815 respondents, purposive sampling was used to select a sample of 253 respondents (40 home economics teachers and 213 secretaries of registered women cooperative societies in ten Local government Areas of Anambra State. A questionnaire titled “Inculcating Home Economics-Based Life Skills for Poverty Alleviation (IHELSPA)” was used for data collection. Data was analysed using mean ratings. The findings included that several Home Economics based life skills could be inculcated among the rural women using a range of networking approaches. Among the recommendations was that Government and non-governmental organizations should mobilize communities, youth groups, and other private sector organizations to network and contribute in building the capacities of rural women in Home Economics based life (survival) skill

A Global Review of Empirical Models for Estimating Photosynthetically Active Radiation

    Get PDF
A good working knowledge of photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) is of vital requirement for determining the terrestrial photosynthesis, primary productivity calculation, ecosystem-atmosphere carbon dioxide, plant physiology, biomass production, natural illumination in greenhouses, radiation climate, remote sensing of vegetation, and radiation regimes of plant canopy, photosynthesis, productivity models of vegetation, etc. However, routine measurement of PAR is not available in most location of interest across the globe. During the past 77 years in order to estimate PAR on hourly, daily and monthly mean basis, several empirical models have been developed for numerous locations globally. As a result, numerous input parameters have been utilized and different functional forms applied. This study was aim at classifying and reviewing the empirical models employed for estimating PAR across the globe. The empirical models so far utilized were classified into ten main categories and presented base on the input parameters applied. The models were further reclassified into numerous main sub-classes (groups) and finally presented according to their developing year. In general, 757 empirical models, 62 functional forms and 32 groups were reported in literature for estimating PAR across the globe. The empirical models utilized were equally compared with models developed using different artificial neural network (ANN); and the result revealed that ANN models are more suitable for estimating PAR across the globe. Thus, this review would provide solar energy researchers with input parameters and functional forms that have been widely used to up to date, and recognizing their importance in estimating PAR globally. Citation: Nwokolo, S. In this paper, measured data of solar radiation was applied to develop forty-three (43) empirical models for estimation of monthly average diffuse solar radiation using clearness index, sunshine duration and a combination of them as predictors. The data covered a period of two years from May 2015 to April 2017 and was measured at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Hyderabad, Pakistan. Through a comprehensive statistical performance analysis, 43 dimensional models developed were tested for constructing the most accurate regression model to predict the monthly mean daily diffuse solar radiation in Hyderabad, Pakistan. On the whole, the model 42 – a hybrid of sunshine duration and clearness index predictors of diffuse fraction outperformed the remaining models proposed in this study. The best model (model 42) was then compared with 5 models and 5 measured data of diffuse solar radiation available in the literature and the NASA database by applying statistical indicators such as MBE, MPE, RMSE, RRMSE, R2 and GPI. Through the analysis, the hybrid of sunshine duration and clearness index predictors of diffuse fraction model (model 42) was selected as the most appropriate model. The study concluded that the proposed hybrid model can serve as a baseline for the design of photovoltaic systems and estimate the monthly mean daily diffuse solar radiation on the horizontal surface for Hyderabad, Pakistan and other locations with similar local climate conditions.Citation: Nwokolo, S.C. and Otse, C.Q.
