    State Selective Scattering Angle Dependent Capture Cross Sections Measured by Cold Target Recoil Ion Momentum Spectroscopy

    We have developed a new kind of recoil ion momentum spectroscopy technique, using a precooled supersonic gas jet target, to determine state selective, scattering angle dependent cross sections for swift ion-atom collisions ( 0. 25 , ..., , 1 MeV He2+ on He), by measuring the transverse and longitudinal momentum of the recoil ion. A longitudinal momentum resolution of ± 0.13 a. u. was achieved, about a factor of 30 better than ever obtained before, which enables a clear separation of K and L shell capture. In the transverse direction a resolution corresponding to a projectile scattering angle uncertainty of Δ ϑ P = ±1 μ rad was obtained

    Historically, professional counselling has been mired by “theory wars” involving proponents going to great lengths to prove (either through research or through rhetoric) that their approach was superior to others. This, not surprisingly, led to rancour and division within professional counselling and a form of camp mentality among model adherents. This paper offers an innovative approach to teaching models of counselling that counters such tendencies. The impetus for this approach stems from a robust and growing body of research indicating that counselling models, although often revered among model adherents and assumed to be the sine qua non of effective counselling, now appear to play a smaller role within the therapeutic enterprise. While few (including the present authors) would argue that counselling models are unnecessary, the various lines of research outlined in this paper compel counsellor educators to rethink how counselling models ought to be taught to graduate-level counselling students.Par le passĂ©, le counseling professionnel a Ă©tĂ© mis Ă  mal par les « querelles de positions thĂ©oriques Â» dans lesquelles les partisans d’une approche donnĂ©e s’efforçaient de prouver (par la recherche ou par la rhĂ©torique) que celle-ci Ă©tait supĂ©rieure Ă  toutes les autres. Sans surprise, ce contexte a nourri de la rancĹ“ur et de la division au sein de la profession du counseling et favorisa une mentalitĂ© de clan parmi les adhĂ©rents aux diffĂ©rents modèles. Le prĂ©sent article propose une approche novatrice d’enseignement des modèles thĂ©oriques du counseling qui permet de contrer ces tendances. Cette approche est particulièrement attrayante, car elle se fonde sur de solides recherches croissantes qui indiquent que les modèles de counseling, bien que souvent vĂ©nĂ©rĂ©s par leurs partisans et conçus comme Ă©tant indispensables Ă  l’efficacitĂ© du counseling, semblent dorĂ©navant jouer un rĂ´le moins prĂ©pondĂ©rant dans la dĂ©marche thĂ©rapeutique. Certes, peu de personnes (y compris les auteurs de cet article) ne soutiendraient que les modèles de counseling sont inutiles, mais les diverses voies de recherche soulignĂ©es dans l’article incitent les formateurs de conseillers Ă  revoir leur façon d’enseigner les modèles thĂ©oriques aux Ă©tudiants universitaires en counseling
